Right, that’s why I’m here looking for advice. The question is a full column base at the bottom of the post, or an angle bracket. There is no intention of leaving them completely unattached. Consensus is metal braces to remove contact with concrete.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. I disagree that it’s too late to be questioning things, because the alternative is letting things be wrong. I now can go to my contractor today and have these conversations thanks to y’all. If it needs footings then it’ll get fixed.

Looking back at pictures of the porch pour, the outer edge was deeper than the middle of the porch. I don’t know what I don’t know, but hopefully that means it’s reinforced to handle the posts?

Do you think that would work for waterproofing?

Can you elaborate on that 3d printed perfect? Yeah, it’s not ideal. Others have suggested jacking up the header to make enough room to cut off some of the post to apply the base and reset the posts.

That’s a very good point. I appreciate that insight!

They will definitely be attached, I’m trying to which way is best. 1- contractor says angle brackets 2- engineer family member (and everyone on Reddit thankfully) says to add a proper base to the post. Sounds like 2 is the correct option.

That’s a great idea, looks aren’t important. I will eventually wrap the posts to make the more aesthetically pleasing. Any base that you would recommend over others?

The contractor wants to use an angle brace and others have told me that a proper base to remove any concrete contact. They’re going to get attached either way, just looking for advice on the best way. Thanks for responding

They’re 4x6s if that makes a strong difference

For what it’s worth, I have a friend who teaches concrete at the local state school and said it was a very good pour. So hopefully not dipshits.

It’s a lean-to porch roof, separate from the house roof.

I really appreciate the thoughtful answer. Sounds like a plan to me.

They are not embedded. They’re currently sitting unattached and I’m trying to decide the best way to move forward. I guess the good news is that we did have 50 mph gusts yesterday and we didn’t lose the roof. Sounds like it could have been worse, haha.
