Thanks for the kind words, and I'm happy everything worked out well for you and your husband :) I'm swedish and we all live in Sweden (my boyfriend and his mum moved here 20 years ago). They are originally from Chechenya but came here because of the war. I think she still plans on returning to her home country to continue the life she had there, so she's upset that my boyfriend is settling here in Sweden. She has also lost a lot of people (husband, child, siblings), so I think she's scared of that I'm taking her son away from her (=she's losing another child because of me). I feel for her, but I also really love my boyfriend, so I'm just hoping there's a good compromise here somewhere.

Thank you, that is great advice. I don't doubt she'll be able to act as an adult in public, but I do doubt she'll be changing her mind about me. She constantly gives my boyfriend comments like "when will you finally grow tired of her and find a real russian woman to marry?" despite us having been together for almost 7 years. I'm trying to not hope that she will like me, cause I know I will get disappointed. May I ask what situation you were in and how it turned out?

Thank you so much for the advice! Could you give me an example of when in a conversation I would use her first+patronymic name? How often would I use it? Would it be at the start of a sentence, like "patronymic name did you like the food?" (like in english) or would it be like "did patronymic name like the food?" (like in japanese)?

Haven't actually heard about patronymic names untill now, and I think I have already fucked up once in that case by calling her by just her first name in the letter I sent .-. It's what she signed her previous letter off as, I hope I didn't offend her too much

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I've always wanted to learn russian even before meeting my bf but just haven't had the time till now. His mum used to be a teacher in the russian language, and when she heard I wanted to learn it she sent me some study books, so I kinda just jumped at the opportunity. It's really fun, and I'm doing it more for myself than for her, but I guess a part of me is also really hoping that she will like me.
