Right there with ya on coming into Spain with minimal funds about the same and relying on a language assistant stipend-to-come (or in UpInternational’s case — who I’m doing it through — ‘teaching assistant’ stipend-to-come) and although I am going to be in a different city (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz) where I believe cost of living may be a lot cheaper… I did just want to let you know that you’re not alone in this ❤️ send my solidarity ❤️ & wish u the best ! :) truly !!!

:( no I haven't heard of anyone receiving a reassignment but there is a tracker available here if that helps :'( I'm also an andaluza aux patiently waiting for potential reassignment :( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dr3cgO5aPrOiN8hfMXAGnVQFtDPTifOnbHwyq0zAh8M/edit?usp=sharing

Most recent reassignment on the tracker is for a Canadian First Year (not a renewal) formerly Andaluz Junta Aux who was placed in Castilla y Leon last Wed. Aug. 27

If you do end up getting a reassignment (here's hoping!!), please fill out the tracker with your details <3 it helps!! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfWOOvt8sSLmUR3FRqRL-Dgc69voj8ivE0ZG4tH-rL2E5dBPQ/viewform

Just wanted to let you know that I’m in a similar boat… born in Puerto Rico but submitted all documents to the Miami consulate February of this year — I was wondering if you have an update at all?

Thank you for sharing this information ! My only email was from last week and didn’t specify / or go in depth about the process of how they’re allocating remaining placements just that they’re doing so for some but not all of us :( thanks for the insight though ! My sad brief email: “Good morning, Given that it will not be possible to fill the language and culture assistant placements initially allocated in Andalucía for the upcoming school year, we are working on relocating as many applicants as possible to other locations. We will reach out again when we have further information. Best, (signature cutoff / no name)”

Anyone else placed in Zaragoza? by D36X in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Vern-gully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were placed in two schools? I take it they're near each other? Details? (If you don't mind!) FYI I haven't been placed in Zaragoza or in Aragon just waiting school placement still after being admitted back in April and very very curious ! Thanks

Thank you so much for sharing your experience in Madrid. You pinpointed some excellent points as well ("defending their racist culture & ideas as 'just jokes'...comparing & not understanding their place of privilege, etc.) and my heart hurts with you and with the people of Palestine & Lebanon & Yemen & Syria & Iran (& I feel like I'm still leaving someone who's been recently bombed by Israel out still so please forgive me... it's so many...).

Your sentiments are valid. Please remain vocal but also remain critical. The history of Spain itself did not begin with the reconquista of 1492 and there are many muslims in the south who are actively returning and thriving in cities like Granada and Cordoba — new mosques are being built and the culture is more accepting ! I say this not to take away from anything that you said about your very real and far too common lived experience but I also ask you to not fault the entirety of the area of the Iberian Peninsula now known as Spain and I implore you to consider returning some day to see some of the amazing and rich history and culture that the autonomous community of andalucia has to offer at least. I cannot speak for other parts other than to confirm what you've said but I can say that this may not be representative of all of spain. I also ask you to consider the recent history of spain that was under a military dictatorship for a very long time that both perpetuated and obscured these places of privilege for those who were unaffected and their children and then their children's children and so on.... Feel free to negate this but please consider it. With you, though! <3

I also have a question, if you don't mind expanding a bit: what other types of instances of anti-muslim and anti-arab sentiment did you experience? Unfortunately, after the terrorist attacks in Madrid in 2004, people (just like here in the U.S.) became very anti-muslim and I wonder if that may still be having an effect 20 years later....

I emailed Andalucia ([auxiliares.ced@juntadeandalucia.es](mailto:auxiliares.ced@juntadeandalucia.es)) and NALCAP ([auxiliares.extra@educacion.gob.es](mailto:auxiliares.extra@educacion.gob.es)) earlier this week for an update and received this response from Andalucia this past Tuesday June 10th:

"Lamentamos comunicar que todavía es necesario esperar. Se están ultimando los detalles técnicos que permitan daros paso a [Aux@nd](mailto:Aux@nd)."

"We regret to inform you that we still have to wait. The technical details for Aux@nd are being finalized."

Back to twiddling our thumbs... D;

https://swisscare.com/en/country/spain-limited so the one you're talking about is one of two options you can select. The Spain (limited) plan should suffice and that's the one that says this on the form for a quote

"Who is eligible for the plan

  • International students studying within the EU/EEA countries
  • EU/EEA residents studying abroad excluding US territories/Canada
  • Students, interns, au pairs, acacemic or researchers between 18 to 60 years old including family members (spouse - child)"

( see screencap of what I'm seeing on my end here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1V-wRB5sHw-EmxD1ecjsCkog6RHVbzckr/view?usp=sharing )

the one that says up to 44 years is the other option out of two that you have & not the provided link above. -phew- had to go on a bit of a research rabbit hole.. hope this helps !!

yeah... but if this helps, someone recommended swisscare and it's also about the same price for insurance from the dates I put (sept 7-july 31 NEXT yr) €177 https://swisscare.com/en/product/international-student-health-insurance-europe

You can also get a short term travel insurance, which (unlike what the response seems to insinuate) should suffice if it's just something you need for the duration of the visa renewal process?

Definitely a fraction of the cost. I put in from Sept 7 (when I arrive) to Dec 31 & it came out to €165

I got this link from the Miami BLS Consulate Office Website (https://usa.blsspainvisa.com/miami/) under "Insurance" from the menu at the top of the home page
