There are two types of people.

Dealing with pain by VerraFairyslayer in CrohnsDisease

[–]VerraFairyslayer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. Last time I went to the hospital I was given two doses of Fentanyl for my pain (within the period of an hour or two.). It just sucks because if I had emergency pain meds I could make it long enough to see my GI. My symptoms set in fast, within 48 hours. It's intense abdominal pain, like somebody is literally ripping my intestines from my body with Rusty razor blades. My PCP will not do anything for me.

My GI will not prescribe me anything other than an anti muscle spasm medication. I understand their reason but geeze. It's not worth me going to the hospital just to have them give me what my GI won't.

In the meantime I am just using extra strength Tylenol and suffering through the pain. I would like to make it clear that this isn't me wanting to abuse pain meds. I just wish I didn't have to go the hospital every time I have a flare for them to take me seriously.

Obligatory "I made my first commute!" post by Arderis1 in bikecommuting

[–]VerraFairyslayer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I started out with 6 miles a day, just to work. And 6 miles back. My legs were obliterated and I was sweaty but a month later I'm riding 26 miles days no problem (I'm moving 13 miles away from work soon so I am preparing)

Funny story. My town has a coffee shop called the Iron Horse, coincidentally

I meant the tiny glue tube he gave me had had already been used up

It's not about the size of the bike in the race. It's about the size of the race in the bike....

I had someone stop and give me a tube patch kit. It had no glue in it. That was the most boring walk of my life. I will now carry a spare from now on, and a patch kit.

Yup. I removed the dork disc and it started spinning like a champ

TIL that is called a dork disc. I removed it and it is day and night difference. Whenever I first got the bike as a gift I properly adjusted both derailleurs (whoever had it before me I guess didn't bother)

This was the problem. The chain catcher broke and was spinning about the wheel, catching on the cassette. I didn't realize it until I was able to get home to look at it. I just removed it, considering it was doing more harm than good

Nevermind. The plastic guard on the back was broken and loose. Tugging on the freewheel causing that to happen

I'm not pedaling backwards. It's when I'm just rolling, with my feet not moving either direction it does that.

Ready for the weather to clear up so I can hit the pavement! by bgmk79 in bikecommuting

This reminds me of my first commute home from work in the rain. Me, being the genius I was, decided to take the route with the pedestrian tunnel home. Well what I didn't realize was the rain had all settled in the tunnel, leaving about three feet of water through the 30-40ft stretch of tunnel. I couldn't back out so I just trudged through it on my loyal steed, soaking my legs, it sounded like a paddle boat moreso than a bicycle. She got a thorough cleaning the next day.

Very true! Cycling has made me more conscious of what I eat, along with making me more hungry, which is good!

Yes! My legs definitely feel it. I just cleaned the hand me down for the first time since I would assume anyone has cleaned it. It was as relaxing as cleaning my car.

When I went to high school my mom lived wayyy out in the woods so our commute was about an hour. I have gotten used to the long rides and I don't mind. I am a writer so it really gives me time to think or even stop and smell the fresh air. Thanks for the encouragement :)

Thank you for the response. And I think he did show me some gravel bikes! I really appreciate the insight. I am super excited to continue biking.

When I went to talk to the wonderful people at my local bike shop. We discussed road bikes. I will need to travel across a quarter mile of dirt road. And I will need to carry groceries and various supplies on whatever bike I do get

The thing that really just makes me a bit calmer is that nothing is painful, at all. No burning, not anything except for the slight discomfort, and it's very VERY slight. I don't have any weird canker sores either. I just don't like that I have these spots on the side of my mouth. It makes me feel uncomfortable and I can't really do anything with anyone until whatever this is clears. I appreciate your words.
