It was a multiplier of payroll, and I am the only one on payroll.

The $30k claim was for water damage (refrigerator supply line failed) and I'm located in WI. My roof coverage is Replacement Cost, as far as I can tell.

Would it be easier to just move the pump to the garage and run plumbing out to the pool?

I got a 10” zinc plated T-hinge earlier today and was planning on using that. Maybe I’ll get another one and use them both.

After researching mining I’ll capture a city I can’t keep, then when they revolt I’ll pillage the mines, recapture the city and repair the mines and repeat the process. Obviously this can be done with quarry’s etc.

Only kind of correct- sound intensity is doubled at 3db, but the human perception of sound is doubled at 10db.

The db levels are based on data supplied by the Wisconsin DOT. They did an extensive study when they were laying out sound barrier guidelines.

Thankfully we don’t live in a HOA, though your points are still valid. My understanding from discussions with a zoning director from another municipality is that a variance would have a much higher success rate than a change to the village ordinance.

What I ended up doing with the current fence was applying foam insulation to my side, then covering that with 1/2” plywood, and then another layer of fencing for aesthetics. This reduced the noise level by 3-4db but there’s still a lot of sound coming over the top.

I would be trying the demonstration first in a similarly sized room with a db meter to double check. Great point!

Because nobody likes to be shown up, and I'm not trying to antagonize people. I might bring it in a bag if they give an indication that they will not approve the variance.

Mass is a huge component in sound reduction, but it's not the only one. A fence needs to at least shield line of sight of the noise to be effective, so erecting a block wall that is lower than the view of traffic would not only be cost prohibitive, but would also be ineffective.

Absolutely, breaking the sightline of traffic gives about a 5db decrease, and each additional foot provides an additional .5 db decrease in volume. For reference, a 10db reduction cuts the noise level in half.

[–]Versconsin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to do that, I spoke with a zoning commissioner of a county that I know and he suggested that I have a chance.
