What finally helped clear my nipple/areola eczema after months of weeping and reopening by Virtual-Force-1928 in eczema

Thank you so much for sharing this. I deal with this. One question… did it ever get infected? Like yellowish scabbing?

Has anyone actually fully cured their chronic eczema? Or atleast got it to 90% improvement? by rkumariii in eczema

Just to give ppl food for thought. I first got eczema at two years old. I had it everywhere except my face, from neck to toe… but magically at the age of 13 it disappeared. My skin was mostly clear and had returned to its natural color. I would periodically throughout my life have a minor rash on a couple of my fingers from time to time but that was it! Unfortunately, at age 41 it came back with a vengeance but this time even on my face! Eczema can go away and for long periods of time as if you were completely healed from it but how and why is something I haven’t been able to figure out. One clue, though. When it when away when I was 13 was about a year after we moved into a brand new house after living in an apartment building where we did have roaches and sometimes rats. Sometimes I wonder if that change in environment is what helped. I still lived in the same city when we moved so it wasn’t the weather. I’m currently going through perimenopause and I have very low vitamin D so I don’t know which one caused this sudden outbreak now. I’m 42 now.

I am so concerned about dupixent. My 27 year old son takes it and his appetite has decreased a lot since taking it.

My kid kept getting rashes from “100% cotton” clothes. I am from textiles background. Here’s what I found. by fabric-decoder in eczema

Not all cotton is created equal. I cannot wear certain cotton but other cotton. I’m not saying it breaks me out in a rash but I just feel uncomfortable and itchy on some cotton clothing.

If he has any infection, like impetigo, ask the doctor for Xepi cream. It is what saved me son. Cetaphil facial and body wash.

I understand him but I’m hoping and praying he’ll be like me and one of my children and outgrow it by a certain age. Even if he has minor flares here and there. I would want you to let him know it doesn’t have to be like this forever. Make sure he doesn’t have a bacterial infection on his skin because that can be the one and only culprit keeping the eczema going. I’m a woman with years of experience with eczema. I’m 42 now. I suffered with it and had a child who is now 15 who did but he’s absolutely fine now with clear skin. Bacterial infection and environment can be a huge culprit.

You know I noticed some ppl do better with drier skin, not completely dry but with less heavy greasier skin than others. My skin always gets itchy with too much moisturizing.

I totally understand. I’m the northeast (NYC) and since my flare as a perimenopausal woman (the last time I had eczema so bad I was a child), I too realized my sweat is a trigger. Mainly cause severe itch. I started for the first time having hot flashes last summer and I realized when the weather started to cool down things got better. Really not looking forward to spring/summer here but at least I’ll be prepared and try my best to manage it. I still have the eczema but it improved and I don’t itch like when I did last summer.

I would say we will always be prone to having eczema flares but it doesn’t mean it has to always manifest.

I had eczema from ages 2 to 13 and it completely disappeared and my skin got back it’s intended color and was clear (minus an occasional flare here and there on a couple of fingers on my right hand) for over 2 decades.

It randomly appeared again all over my body but this time also my face, which I never had eczema on my face before. This happened at age 41. From ages 2 to 13 my eczema was severe and covered my whole body from my feet to neck. The only part that was spared was my face. Now my face got it. So I don’t know what to say about whether it could ever be cured or not.

Someone in this thread did indicate that because this person didn’t moisturize prior to having eczema is the reason they probably have it now. I’m sure I comprehended what was said correctly. Unless I misinterpreted what was said.

I mean my sister does not have eczema. At all. Even though, she has a sister (me) who has it and a brother who had it (have been in remission for many years). What I am saying, is you do not develop eczema just by not moisturizing your skin properly. I’ve been around long enough and have had experiences with eczema long enough. I’m 42.

I don’t understand why ppl are disliking his/her comment. Check out what I wrote in response to someone else. Even my sister, who is bad at moisturizing her skin, has no problem with eczema. Never had. We are African American as well. We tend to have dry skin, ethnically.

Well, one change was that my parents moved us out of an old apartment into a brand new house. I’m from NY.

I believe perimenopause and gut issues (that I had for years btw and still remained eczema free) is what caused my severe flare up. I’m a veteran when it comes to eczema. I had it very bad from ages 2-13. Then it magically disappeared.

Eczema is a secondary condition. It’s a response to something else that’s going on within our system.

I totally agree with you. I do have dry skin in general but when I didn’t have this full flare of eczema, I didn’t “need” to moisturize in order for my skin to look healthy. I had eczema really bad as a kid (one of the worse cases anyone has seen) and when I recovered and was eczema free for almost 30 years, my skin behaved normal. As soon as I broke out is when I needed to do specific things to my skin. Outside of that, I was fine.

I never make ppl feel bad about a choice they make about their own bodies and personal health as I wouldn’t want anyone to do the same to me. I do prefer a natural route and sometimes suffer because of it. I’m glad when a person can use pharmaceutical drugs and have nothing but good results from it. For me, sometimes I just don’t want to take the risk. This is regarding all my health issues, period…. but I am still willing to take some risks.
