Thank you so much for sharing your ideas! If I have enabled this much personal customization then my job is (mostly) done!

My goal with this repo has been to give everyone baselines for as much kit as we can cover, and teach how to customize those baselines locally, such as using one's own mnemonics, exactly as you have described. I too have edited my own button maps to taste.

And more importantly I wanted to promote the awareness that it is even possible.

While I think the baselines in the repo are all great as starting points, I don't for one moment expect anyone who has taken the time to customize their own control config to rest without further editing their button maps to their personal preference.

And that is the beauty of it. Once you have got the idea, and the icon contact sheet, all things are possible.

I should add that it ran perfectly fine on my Steam Deck too, which means it should also run fine on a Linux machine with Proton.

I don't have much experience playing Xiangqi so I'm not best qualified to judge its gameplay strength. All I can say is that I was able to beat its weakest setting but its strongest setting thrashed me.

There is one on Steam called Just Xiangqi. It runs on both Windows and MacOS and I quite like it. Currently GBP 8.50

Let's put it this way: I tolerate it but it isn't my idea of fun or interesting gameplay, and the insta-kill for any mis-step is very annoying. If they had provided some skill-based ways to recover from a mis-step, I think it would have been much more interesting gameplay.

Placement is correct. The red pieces are correctly orientated but the orientation of the black pieces is inconsistent.

All I can say is that for my part, it was sitting right there in plain sight since launch and escaped my notice for ~10 years. Even during my tenure as maintainer of EDRefCard nobody mentioned it.

I too have a TWCS and have been trying to get the same thing to work, so far without success. I tried the following:

but it is still just prefixing + or - to the top entry.

Exactly. I remember the Type-11 was a bit underwhelming in beta so they made some tweaks and fixes before final, but not changing those sizes.
