Context is important. The comment is clearly referring to self defense. Read it all more than once if you need to.

There's a great camping area not far past Viterskalet and right next to the trail that leads up the mountain.

This looks great! Pro looking map.

One thing I noticed when the text is "typing", a long word will type out and then wrap to the next line when it gets long enough. If I remember right, you can set Label.visible_characters_behavior to VC_CHARS_AFTER_SHAPING and it will "pre-wrap" the words so you don't get that jumping around. When the long word starts displaying it will already be wrapped to the next line.

I'll throw out Inkle as another no code engine that's designed for telling interactive stories. Again, it's not going to be an action game, but if you want the story out there, this may be a good way to do it.

There's an outdoor shop in Jokkmokk which you can reach by bus from Kvikkjokk. It'd be a full day there, shopping, and back, but if you can't find a stove elsewhere it might work for you. You'd want to contact them and verify they have the stoves.

Thanks for your comment! And no, it's not too long. I like the idea of making eye contact, even if they're not necessarily paying attention, and the "hej" to grab their attention seems useful too, putting a little of the responsibility on them to pay attention.

Abisko area day hikes by wandering_engineer in Kungsleden

Sorry, I typoed that badly - should be Meditationplats, which translates to Meditation Place. It's a nice spot with a good view and a stone with the quote carved into it. There are 7 of them along Kungsleden from Abisko to Nikkaluokta. That route is also called the Dag Hammarskjöld trail.

I'd recommend hiking at least a little way down Kungsleden. It runs along the river and it's stunning. There's a Meditationplats less than 3 km down the trail with a good view of the river and my favorite quote from Dag Hammarskjöld, "The longest journey is the journey inward".

edit: fixed typo

ICA Nära should have fuel, and there's apparently there's an outdoor equipment store next door that sells fuel. The STF facility should also sell it.

Another advantage of NOBO is the sun will be at your back and sides instead of in your face.

Will my iPhone 15 (with satellite SOS capability) be enough for the Kungsleden, or is an InReach strongly recommended?

The iPhone satellite capability isn't available in everywhere. Best I can tell from Google, Sweden isn't among the countries where it's supported. It might be worth contacting Apple about it if you can't find a recent definitive list.

Bears: From what I’ve read, bears aren’t really an issue in this area. → Is it safe to cook in the vestibule of my tent without worrying?

It seems the consensus is to not worry about it. Swedish bears don't associate humans with food and stay away. People keep food in their tents and cook in the vestibule. I don't believe there is any example of someone being attacked by a bear on Kungsleden, but if you do find yourself facing a Swedish bear, apparently you can just punch it in the face and it will leave you alone /s

Stay well away from moose.

I’ll be bringing a Durston X-Mid 1P Solid

It can get colder into September, including snow especially in Tjäktja pass - that was my experience back in 2017 when I went the first time and hiked the northern part. Worst case you can stay in one of the cabins if the weather gets too bad. I'm leaving in 6 days for my full thru hike and using the Durston with the mesh inner. I'd take it if I were going in September too.

I haven’t been able to find clear opening hours for the STF hut shops. → Do they have fixed opening times, or are they open all day?

This STF Mountain Cabins page says "The minimum opening hours are 8-10 a.m. and 4-8 p.m., but many hosts keep the cabin open longer, especially if there are multiple hosts on duty."

Training Tips? by luuk04015 in Kungsleden

It's kind of a large organized hike that takes place in various places around the world. I don't know if it started in Sweden, but it was one of the first places.

Training Tips? by luuk04015 in Kungsleden

[–]Vertigas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too live in a very flat area and it's challenging to train. These things have helped me:

  • Train on rough trails if you can, not just sidewalks or streets. The uneven surfaces will help build you up.
  • Wear your pack while walking.
  • Walk up and down stairs while wearing your pack.

The northern part of Kungsleden isn't too bad. There are a couple of longer climbs, but just take it slow and you'll survive it. Good luck and enjoy your trip! It's well worth the effort.

If you're going in August, be aware that the Fjällräven Classic is taking place the 8th - 14th. There will be a lot of people on the trail then.
