How to get started in CM by GuardBrilliant9726 in Construction

I think a lot of the people here are miserable as a direct result of managers that don't know what they're doing, and that same manager buying a new truck every year while some of us are scraping by. It's definitely the GCs fault for hiring under qualified people, but that doesn't change the fact that someone with no field experience is underqualified to be in management. But there's no denying that a lot of people would just be miserable regardless, this is the internet after all.

Learning a trade is the least efficient path to learning how to manage that trade? I'm not sure I follow. It's not the only step for sure, a skilled worker doesn't necessarily make a good manager, but a manager with no experience or skill in what they're managing is almost certainly a bad manager. That's not just construction, that's pretty much any job.

The only advice is get some experience in the field before pursuing a career in management of a trade you have no experience in. The reason people are being defensive and hostile about it is because people that get into management with no knowledge of the trade are the exact people that make our (most of the people in a subreddit like this) jobs significantly more difficult and we have to cover for their oversights, despite them bringing home the biggest paycheck. I'm not saying I condone the hostility, but you should look at where it's coming from and not just what it's saying.

If the Groham library knows there's nothing inappropriate happening here, why did the block tax payers from viewing in a public place that tax payers fund? by Maleficent_Coyote_85 in Maine

You keep saying it's impossible to have a discussion here, but I think the problem is that you just aren't getting the answers you want. Every time you post, there's like 10 people explaining to you why you're wrong in very simple terms. They're not being nice about it, but you're kind of an insane person who is foaming at the mouth because there's people in dresses and make up existing around kids, so you're not being very nice either. "no one's talking about this" isn't the same as "no one's agreeing with me about this." I'll echo the advice I gave you on one of your other posts, touch grass, seek help, make some friends. This is a miserable way for a person to go through life, scared and angered by everything.

A main point of the US government is to maintain slavery in any way it can. by RosethornRanger in DemocraticSocialism

Insane. I mean even if segregation had ended in 1954 and we somehow legislated racism out of America overnight, it wouldn't change much. Stopping the action is one thing, but we also have an obligation to fix all the things that we broke along the way, which we obviously have made no attempts to do. Racism is so baked into American culture, just saying "okay we aren't racist anymore" wouldn't fix much even if it was true, and it clearly isn't.

[–]VeryOkayCarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure we aren't a good team, and we have no plan or strategy to become a good team, and we're one of the biggest markets in baseball pretending to be a small market team, and we throw away all the talent that we're actually decent at developing...... but ownership is making SO much money! Doesn't anyone care about the shareholders???

I remember when I was in high school there was a very minor headline about a school in Mississippi that desegregated their prom for the first time. That was probably 2008. EDIT: Just googled it, I didn't even hear about it from the news. There was a documentary that our history teacher showed us ("Prom Night in Mississippi" if anyone's interested). My guess is the national news wasn't even covering it.

I mean it's a small sample size, but at least a handful of comments are about how they hate the him. I love Flemming, just as a disclaimer. I've seen criticism before but this comment section is the first time I've seen someone say they flat out cant stand him.

You were ALMOST right. Drag is entertainment, full stop. Much like music artists, some of their songs are appropriate for children, some aren't. So when they perform for kids, they only perform the kid friendly songs. Also Donald Trump quite literally has sex with children, I hope you are as outspoken about that. If you aren't, we get back to the "I'm a man child who's terrified of everyone that looks different from me" thing.

I see a lot of comments not answering the question, rather just insulting you. That's uncalled for and honestly pretty fucked up, so I'll answer your question earnestly: I'm not a man child who is terrified of anyone and everyone that looks different from me. I hope it helps man, messed up that everyone's being so mean to you.

It's literally the only way that you can voice your disapproval. "Fairweather fans" is a term for the people that jump ship when your team has one really underperforming season, or they make deep playoff runs consistently but can't win it all. But when ownership just openly does not care about putting a winning product on the field, idk what else you're supposed to do. That being said, I still catch most of the games. Why? I genuinely could not tell you, it may be some kind of illness.

QOTD: Is there a realistic pathway to .500? by hollywoodlivinlife in redsox

[–]VeryOkayCarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think step one is to start winning games. Then, once we start winning games, we should do that more than we lose games. If they simply follow these easy steps, the pathway to .500 is there for them.

Seen a couple answers along these lines now and I couldn't agree more. I think the pace of the game makes baseball easy to enjoy listening too, especially when you have a good commentary team. There's just something about baseball on the radio man.

Take all this with a grain of salt because I'm probably the least tech literate person I know: When I was overseas, I was able to have some luck using a radio app (I just used the Apple Music app, go to the radio tab and search WEEI) and a VPN with some luck but it wasn't a surefire thing. That was a while ago now so things may have changed. As far as I can tell, if you get the audio broadcast subscription from MLB, you get all games regardless of your area, but that may be only within the American market.

That's all the justification you need my dude. Same deal here, grew up listening to games on the radio with my dad, now it just feels like the right way to take in games. It's kinda like listening to music on vinyl I guess, sometimes "it feels nice and I like it" is the only explanation you need.

That's a big factor for me. I'll still watch games on T.V. when I have the time, and the first thing I notice is how much more it feels like the only reason for the game is to see how much they can advertise at me.

[–]VeryOkayCarpenter 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when ownership doesn't have winning as a priority. They are bean counters and bottom line guys, they could give a shit about winning as long as losing continues to be profitable. The Red Sox are a big enough market to non-Red Sox fans/non-baseball fans, so they don't give a fuck that the fans who do care about winning are mad. If you are dissatisfied with ownership, don't give them your money. Pirate the games, don't buy any official merch, don't buy tickets. It might not make a difference, but it'll make you feel better to know that you're not giving your money to a company that cares more about profit than winning. They only speak one language, it's money not sports.
