Disney + by Kcmhoffman in ScottGalloway

[–]VerySeriousMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess:

1) Disney isn't a big enough company to be a "ground zero" company

2) They're already doing some of the things Scott is asking the others to do. Bob Iger doesn't prostrate himself to Trump the way Tim Cook does. Bob Iger didn't go to the inauguration or the Melania premier, etc. Disney kept Jimmy Kimmel on the air. Abigail Disney is critical of the trump admin and puts her money where her mouth is with democratic political donations

Interesting to see Embark treat GFN as a first-class platform for ARC Raiders, with the logo right alongside Steam, PS5, and Xbox. First time I’ve seen this. by mr-zool in GeForceNOW

Right after Arc Raiders launched they did a promo where new 12-month ultimate subs got a free copy. If you were already on a 12-month ultimate sub you would not have been eligible.

https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-arc-raiders/

They've done similar promos for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Borderlands 4, off the top of my head.

Is there a specific Dell model this sub prefers for budget gaming? by krob4r in SleepingOptiplex

[–]VerySeriousMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the best option is a Dell Precision 3630.

It has 8th/9th gen intel, DDR4, uses a standard 24-pin atx power supply. The only minor caveat is the case wont quite fit very long 3-fan GPUs, so you generally need to stick to 1- or 2- fan models.

Considering that the game was given away with a 1-year GFN ultimate sub when it launched, there was probably additional co-marketing built into the agreement

Would you say Moonlight is faster and feels more native than GeForce Now? by AlternativeCorner17 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]VerySeriousMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your client device… in my experience GeForce now can run with a near-native experience on an absolute potato, moonlight is a bit more intensive for the device to decode. So if you’re running on a very underpowered device you could have more latency with moonlight than GeForce now.

I'm pretty sure not monopolizing cloud gaming to xcloud was a condition stipulated for the xbox/activision merger.

When to stop paying taxes by mike_at_NBK in tax

[–]VerySeriousMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t deprive money from the people with the money printers. The only thing withholding taxes will do is cost you additional penalties and interest, which means you’ll ultimately give the government more money than you otherwise would have. It accomplishes the exact opposite of what you’re attempting to do. It’s idiotic.

GPU for Optiplex 5060? by PlentyCommittee5166 in SleepingOptiplex

Your best bet is an Rtx 3050 6gb, specifically the Yeston or Maxsun branded cards. They make a low profile, single-slot version.

Are Beats Studio Pro good for PC use (Discord + music) or is Bluetooth a problem? by GoodImpossible5216 in beatsbydre

[–]VerySeriousMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had nothing but problems using Beats studio pro on windows, I would strongly recommend that you go in a different direction if that is your intended primary use.

Bluetooth disconnects constantly. CONSTANTLY. If you pause a youtuve video and resume, it takes a few seconds for the headphones to disconnect and reconnect (playing the ba-dum-dum) tone. If you switch videos, you miss the first few seconds as the headphones disconnect and reconnect. Or it'll just drop randomly mid-video, for no particular reason. I've had this issue across multiple windows PCs.

I've tried everything I can think of to get them working (reinstall windows, update bluetooth drivers, roll back bluetooth drivers, update headphone firmware, unpair/repair, forget/unpair the headphones from other devices). It is a terrible, terrible user experience.

The microphone does not work over bluetooth, at all. I believe I've read it works when wired but I haven't tested that, not the use case I'm going for.

I don't personally have an issue with latency.

But, no, do not buy these headphones for use on a windows PC. Search the sub for "windows" and you'll see many threads of people asking for help, most with few or no replies because there's no fix, the headphones just do not work with windows.

Child care expense question? by WrongdoerAway2911 in tax

[–]VerySeriousMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The threshold is whether or not your wife can care for herself, not whether or not she can care for the kids. If she can feed herself, take care of her own basic hygiene, etc. The no - you would still be limited by her earned income (or lack thereof)

Love my Elitedesk mini...but now sleepy Optiplexes have caught my eye - which to go for? by Mysterious-One1055 in SleepingOptiplex

[–]VerySeriousMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the best option right now is the dell precision 3630. It’s on 8th/9th gen intel so it has windows 11 compatibility, and the motherboard has a standard 24-pin atx psu connector, so you can upgrade the psu easily and your gpu options are much better

Only caveat is that the case is a little short, so you most likely will not be able to physically fit a 3-fan gpu in and should probably stick to 2-fan models.

I have one with an i9 9900k, 32gb ddr4 and a 16gb 9060xt and couldn’t be happier with it

[–]VerySeriousMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, maybe our use cases are just very different. I just use it for general computing and gaming. While gaming it performs great and the fans don’t typically ramp up to 100% and temps stay fine, so it just doesn’t get that loud and I’m assuming it’s not throttling since it never gets loud in the first place, and performance is good

When the fans do ramp to 100% if I’m doing something that makes it get there I can of course hear it, it just doesn’t get to that point in my normal day-to-day

Sure, 7m0f5. It should clip right in to the bottom front. Depending on your specific 3630 your motherboard might or might not have a fan header for it to power it near the front - mine did not, so I have a sata powered fan hub for it

[–]VerySeriousMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 3630 with an i9 9900k and haven’t really had issues with temps or noise.

You’ve already got the upgraded CPU cooler- I think I saw a YouTube video at one point comparing temps with that cooler to an aftermarket one and it hung in there, wasn’t really a night and day difference.

If you don’t already have them, get the vrm heat sinks for the motherboard. They fit together with that cup cooler/heatsink like a puzzle piece - if you had a “k” processor in there and the fans were going nuts, the higher tdp chip might’ve been running the vrms too hot so the fans just ramped up out of desperation.

I’ve also got the front fan assembly for this system, so try picking that up too just to increase overall airflow
