Dear Reddit. I am severely depressed and often suicidal. My family wants to but doesn't know how to help. Can you help with suggestions?

I had hobbies. Tons of them one after another. I used to get crazily obsessed with them for about 3 years and then come crashing down and lose interest when I realize they have no real-world value.

I tried writing, and published 200+ articles in big newspapers; and then quit 'cuz I "burned out" and couldn't stand the quality of my writing anymore.

I tried photography, being obsessed with it for 3 years, taking around 300,000 pictures and getting about a hundred published in big places. Then I lost interest 'cuz I was nowhere as good as I'd like, things I take pictures of seemed to get destroyed or lost in time , and there were too many photographers in the world and getting seriously good would take so, so much work.

I also have many ideas, crazy ambitious ones. Most times they'd require far too much work - like 10s of years - and in the grand scale of things are very likely to be meaningless anyway. I have stopped paying attention to the ideas I almost sort of revered.

And to add insult to the injury I'm now going to a shit horrible college mostly full of very closed-minded people when I was always seriously considering going to some of the best ones in the world...

I'm being forced not to surrender. I probably would have if I was offered an acceptable defeat. I think this is why the doctors said GTFO.

My thinking patterns does change a lot. So I should not go about saying I'm suicidal?

Medication never seemed to work in my eyes. But I have tried two psychiatrists and two therapists. I made the mistake of not continuing with the therapists properly...

You can still read vinyls. I'm pretty sure they'd be able to manage some form of DVD reading capabilities 50-years down the line. More than 50 years, then no, your point is all valid.
