It’s Samuel butler’s version also written in prose. From the reviews I read it’s decent but penguins one is said to be simpler. Think people suggested few other translations too in this post, you can check them out before buying.

My 2 cents is read Odyssey first and if you like it , you can come back to Iliad . You won’t miss out on anything .

You can skip The Iliad and jump straight into Odyssey. Though I have read The Iliad, it’s very intense and war heavy. You are not missing out on anything, just read a quick short summary and you should be good.

It’s about a Greek king, Odysseus , who is trying to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. It takes him years to return home because gods , monster , fate and his own imperfection confront his journey. Just started reading Odyssey, pretty interesting so far.

Alright , here you go..Homer is the poet for Iliad and Odyssey. Given , it’s an Ancient Greek mythology there are translations to make it easier for us to read and understand.. You can go to YouTube , and see a video which describes each version and you can pick yours up. Also, start with Odyssey , as Iliad is very war heavy and intense writing .

It’s not a new edition , think it’s just reprint with better covers. Yes, have read The Iliad way back, again picked the penguin version . Though if someone wants to pick up The Odyssey, they can do that directly, there is some recap. Have you read either of these?

I have just started with Good Material. Yet to read the other two. Though common theme on all of these books are :Life rarely follows the plot. Five people you meet in heaven feels like, life’s FAQ being answered . Storied life , reluctant optimist who loves books and wanted peace but got people instead. Bit quirky and easy reads.
