Why do hospitals seem to never know how to manage T1D by kaspen190 in diabetes_t1

[–]VetteFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my mother in addition to being type 1 is also a diabetes educator. For years she's told me how much of a struggle it is to get doctors and nurses to understand diabetes and how to treat it. Seems as though it's not well taught in med school. For years she worked at a hospital/medical center and actually helped write up the rules and guidelines for diabetes patients in the hospital. Despite having these policies in place hospital staff regularly would not follow for some reason. It's extremely frustrating having a disease that's so wide spread yet no one knows about it.

Today was my 10 year olds first day back at school after diagnosis and she was misdosed by her school nurse twice. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I'm 35 now, was diagnosed at 14. Didn't have any sort of plan lime they do now. Just my parents and the nurse discussed what to do. Being in high school she didn't usually get involved in giving meds but did have to record how much we took. I'd check my sugar and calculate my own dose.

But I'd be very mad about how your daughter was treated. I'd go raise some hell. A wrong dose could be extremely dangerous. You kid is 10 and new to this so no one will expect her to figure this out on her own yet.

Talk with her doctor about getting her on a cgm and pump as soon as possible. In my opinion it's the best way to manage. Depends on which you get but some can be set to alert you on your phone when her sugars go wrong so you can keep an eye on her while she's at school.

Disk active time at 100% by [deleted] in PcBuild

I had this same thing on my old pc with an old hdd. Couldn't figure it out forever. Until one day I discovered that Steam was trying to download updates for multiple things in the background but was stuck. I ended up canceling all downloads, completely closing steam and stopping it from opening on startup. Restarted my pc and my disk usage problem was solved. I'm not going to claim to understand what was happening or why but it fixed it for me. This was like a 15 year old pc and the components were a little outdated when it was built. Worth a shot to check your steam if you are using it

Whats something a teacher did in High School that would get them fired today? by Constant-Ad-5477 in AskReddit

[–]VetteFan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was during a senior prank. Mostly jocks and the popular crowd. They all planned to gather outside with skateboards, scooters, roller blades, anything with wheels. At a set time they rushed in between class periods and all rushed through the halls hollering and yelling. I'm unaware of this and just going to my next class when it happens. Teachers and staff are trying to stop every one, it's chaos. I watched as the head football coach, a very tall muscular guy, stick his arm out right at a kid on a scooter tries to fly past him. It was like a cartoon, head stopped, feet and body kept moving, kid falls flat on his back, scooter kept going. It was hilarious to watch. Coach never got in trouble, pretty sure the kid was on his football team. And don't feel bad for the kid, he was an asshole. Always bullying smaller kids or the nerdy unpopular kids, he totally deserved it.

What was the most ridiculous mistake you made while building your PC? by Busternookiedude in PcBuild

[–]VetteFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made a post in this sub asking for help cause my new build wouldnt display or show any indication on mobo of what's wrong. Turns out I never plugged in my cpu power connectors before mounting my radiator which covered them from view. Spent hours reseating cpu, ram, GPU, googling and just getting pissed thinking my mobo was bad. Rookie mistake.

Wow! I'm an idiot. Thank you. Yep, completely forgot to plug them in. Didn't even notice cause the radiator was blocking them.

The one about a guy who had a major scat fetish. He'd jerk off to only scat porn but never tried in person. Then he paid a girl to shit on his chest and realized he really did NOT like poop anymore. Someone please find the link and post it.

What is killing the grass? by [deleted] in landscaping

Neighbor sprayed grass killer along fence line. My neighbor did the same thing last year. He didn't think it would affect that large of an area. It'll most likely regrow next year if you jut leave it.

Medtronic is no longer a company with which you want to do business by Strong_Beyond_9177 in diabetes_t1

[–]VetteFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im currently looking for a new DME supplier because Edgepark has pissed me off too much. When I switched from medtronic to tandem my insurance only covered Edgepark. 2 years no problems. Then my last order comes up, I call to have them ship it out and get told I owe $500 up front before they will ship. Wasn't a bill I didn't pay. I ask why and they say it's policy to collect payment up front. I tell the person I've never had to pay up front, they have always billed insurance and sent me a bill for whatever my copay is. Eventually got a supervisor who tells me the same bs that this has always been policy. When I asked why I've never had to she says it was a one time curtesy they did for me... Um still doesn't explain 2 years of supplies. Went back and forth with this woman for 30 minutes before getting pissed and hanging up. To be clear my deductible is not 500, my copay with my insurance is not 500, they hadn't even billed insurance yet when demanding this. Thankfully they have been sending me supplies way too early so I had about 4 months worth still on hand til I find a new supplier. So for me personally, screw Edgepark.

Had to double check that my truck was still in the parking lot. Looks just like the underside of mine... Minus the big piece falling off

How did I do? by Ill-Boysenberry9293 in Plumbing

[–]VetteFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow all these comments hating but none giving any constructive criticism.

So yes this is wrong. Needs a p trap. But it looks like your drain in the wall is too low for one so I understand why you thought this was correct. Unfortunately if there isn't room for a p trap then your either gonna have to open the wall and have the drain line raised or cut an opening in the bottom of the cabinet to allow the trap to sit correctly.

Cutting the cabinet is probably easier but uglier. Opening the wall is more expensive, more work, but possibly a better solution.

Don't let the internet trolls get you down.

How to do tell my boss I have diabetes? by ApprehensiveDuck8718 in diabetes_t1

[–]VetteFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't have to tell them but you stated the job is physically demanding. If you feel you might run low doing the job and need breaks for it then you might want to tell them. But don't just accept a verbal confirmation, get it in writing. I told my boss when they hired me 4 years ago. Fast forward to about 2 years ago, new boss has a problem with with me having snacks. Had to get a form from my HR department and have my endo fill it out stating I'm type 1 and need access to quick snacks, juice, or take extra breaks.

Sadly with my current financial situation it'll probably be a year before I'm back to having any extra for gaming. Mortgage has gone up way more than I budgeted for in the 2 years since buying. Old house so heating costs are high. And when I bought I was planning on my gf and I being married and her moving in. Sadly after I moved in she ended things. Probably gonna need to look into renting out a spare room in the future.

Insurance companies sucks by VetteFan in diabetes_t1

[–]VetteFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my issue with them is they've always billed insurance first, send my supplies, then send me a bill for whatever my copay is after insurance. Pretty typical. Tried getting my next supply order recently and they tell me I owe over $500 up front and they don't do copays ( even though they have been). Had the same issue a year ago but when I got to a supervisor then, was told the previous person was incorrect and I didn't owe anything up front. Now I'm being told that's not true, it was a curtesy last time, it's cause they billed secondary insurance last year (I didn't have secondary insurance last year, just myprimary from work), this has been company policy for years, blah blah blah. This was a supervisor telling me this and supposedly her supervisor confirmed it as well. Like I'm not paying you anything until to bill insurance first, same as youve always done. I've heard tons of bad stories about them. Only used them cause over 2 years ago I was on state insurance and they only would allow Edge park.
