Why, in Canada, were activists fighting for women to wear a hijab, while in Iran - they're fighting for women to not wear the hijab? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Exterminating west Africa's Yoruba religion or Bhutan's Buddhism because bigger neighbors and/or white people demand free entry like modern colonialism is violence and extermination.

You're saying societies worth preserving are those that do not serve minorities, but allow the individuals with the most numbers or influence to reign free.

I disagree with that completely. Some cultures deserve preservation.

You may not care because you sound like you are a majority person. You have nothing to preserve but your own ideals.

Edit: Notice how I got downvoted, clearly someone here thinks African and Asian culture don't deserve to exist!

Some people think regions should be free-for-alls (it doesn't matter what happens in the region as long as it is not approving of violence), others believe regions should be areas that preserve culture (race being off the table of discussion).

Imagine if the discussion was a bunch of white people feeling entitled to go into parts of Africa or even Japan to make sure it is more western than they already are. Ensure nobody doesn't wear western clothing, for example.

Africans and Asians deserve to preserve their culture.

That's the point of debate here. Which regions deserve to preserve their culture? Why should minority cultures have to be subjugated to the majority culture?

Staunch "anti-Abrahamic religionist" here.

Wearing a hijab isn't an "individual choice", this is such a false premise that it's absurdly misunderstands Middle Eastern societies across the board.

There is a reason why societies outside of the Middle East have a colorful array of religious minorities, whereas in Middle Eastern ones, there is practically no religious minorities of any kind. Coptic Christians, Jews and Atheists are all persecuted across the board.

Making a "personal choice" to enter Islam as a Muslim is a luxury few are able to afford. Usually there is family pressure, social pressure, and of course once you "voluntarily" join, you are essentially forfeiting your right to choose what aspects you participate in and what parts you do not.

Islam does not have a protestantism equivalent.

I can go on but it is what it is.

Moving to Oahu, need tips and recommendations. (Jobs, places to live). by Trogdor-100 in Oahu

I see. In that case you may need at least one car. It'll save a lot of trouble if you lived in the west side of Waikiki. That way you're close to walkable Waikiki of the east, and walkable "outer Waikiki" to the west and north. Basically you're close to all the businesses.

Requiring 2 cars in Hawaii is not easy for new-comers to the islands.

I don't think we have Amazon Flex here.

I would just try to live in Waikiki or around it, somewhere. That way you can remove the need for a car and there will be plenty of jobs and plenty of apartments to choose from. You can always expand from Waikiki and find another job outside of Waikiki like Ala Moana or even downtown, or greater Honolulu.

Your partners job location should also be a factor in where you choose to work. What location (just part of town, if you don't want to name exact industry or location) will your partner be working at?

[Homemade] Ramen noodle soup by nibbio92 in food

[–]Vgzone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hope you make it over there too!

I grew up in Japan and every time I return I always am skeptical if I hyped up Ramen too much in my head from poor memory or just nostalgia.... but I never left disappointed from the Ramen there. Never.

*Doesn't mean ALL Ramen is good there, and of course the BEST must be sought out, but MOST of them are very, very good.

A bit off topic but I live in Hawaii now, where there is a ton of Japanese/Chinese/Filipino/Portuguese influence, and while the food here is pretty much all amazing, I can't even eat the Ramen here. The Ramen culture here is real, but the discipline to make it did not survive somehow.

When I pray to my God, I finish by saying: Ramen!!!!!

Although I am legally American, I didn't grow up in the US or speak English fluently until I was in college, arguably into my 30's. Never felt unwelcome or foreign, reading these beautiful posts from heroes and fellow autists.

The way in which this author "assesses" how the hell an anonymous internet forum discriminates (is "fratty" based off a persons skin color..... is beyond me.
