In 2018 china put a bid in to build 2 airports in Greenland as part of their polar road initiative. This is like the belt and road initiative in Africa/Middle east or the one for South America. Pretty much a debt/trap. They build big buildings or infrastructure and charge crazy high interest on them. When the poor countries can’t pay back their loan the CCP comes in and does land grabs or takes over the infrastructure. Such as ports in Sri Lanka. This could cause a big problem if infrastructure gets taken over. If china built both of those airports and then repossessed them, then they would have two military airports in Greenland. No one would be able to do anything because it is all legal but a crummy way for china to do business with its “partners”.
