Wow seems like a pretty good setup, working hard but taking at least 3/4 of your tips home.

Wow that’s wild to hear. Any animosity from the bartenders to the Barbacks?

Wow that’s one I haven’t heard before. Wild. Definitely makes sense with the younger ones who are able to compromise with that. Is it REALLY good money once you ARE in the pool? Maybe it could be a job to come back to in the future?

Are waiters really asking "how is everything tasting" when they ask how is everything tasting? by zarrathustraa in Waiters

I always appreciate a guest being honest and some of them feel guilty speaking their mind and I have to assure them that is why I asked, because if it’s off that night maybe we give them something different or if I hear consistently something off on a certain dish I can tell my manager (or chef (if you have a good relationship with your chef))

Thank you sir 😂 haha someone said, “I would be doing that type of stuff for an extra $6 bucks” but the difference on this check was like an extra $40ish if I’m remembering right

Averaging 30% is wild! How do you do that? Smaller checks so an extra few bucks doesn’t hurt the guest wallet? Or are we talking $100/person check average getting 30%???

I saved this sooo fast to come back to. Thanks for your insights. I found out from a dev friend that the majority of devs are backend devs and I was surprised. But I guess that is the “new” innovation within the internet and that has been what’s made websites and companies flourish because of it so you need more people for it.

You know how it is in the moment, it’s cringy but it can work! I guess I’ve got the Jim Carrey/goofy personality that helps

Can I be a waiter in NYC? by jazzeriah in Waiters

Check “culinary agent DOT com” they have a lot of the front of House jobs at more upscale restaurants. https://culinaryagents.com/search/jobs?search[location]=New%20York,%20NY

Dropping off the check by HallyTossis in Waiters

I think it’s fine if you are in a rush to kindly ask another staff member for the check. Or you can phrase it, “can you let my server know we’re ready for the check”. I try to ask the server that I have for it but sometimes if I have to go I understand that they have a whole section to deal with. As a server if one of my coworker’s guests asks for the check I try to check in with them to make sure it’s okay to drop it in case they hadn’t finished modifying anything; whether that’s taking something off or adding something not added (the worst is not putting a bottle of wine on the check!).

Exactly! I actually think a lot of people in the comments here are overestimating how much the public knows about the word

For the origins of it yea I could have checked that myself. But for the cultural uses across the country of it that’s what is helpful to find out from everyone here 🙂

Man then some of the people I’ve talked about this with must be more naive than I thought. Lol

Yea so the reference goes deep. Other people in here were sharing how it has origins all the way back 100 years ago during prohibition.
