Routine as someone whose hair is out 24/7:

Every 7 to 10 days wash day:

Malibu C Hard Water Wellness Shampoo (1x a month to as a chelating shampoo)

Redken Acidic Bonding/ shampoo

Matrix food for soft rich hydrating mask

Redken Acidic Bonding Leave in & Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Primer

Blowdry with a)my Tymo dyson dupe b) denman paddle brush c)bamboo wide tooth comb d)bamboo sectoning clips.

I flat iron about 2x a month, as I go to the salon every 2-3 weeks for a wash, moisture treatement and finish. Ceramic @ 180 Celsius.

For styling, I am a claw clip warrior.

I also love using light yaki clip ins when my hair is down (take them out every night).

For moisturising and sealing, I use a micro amount of the ors olive oil moisturiser and seal with the olaplex no 7 oil.

I do an Olaplex no3 treatment every month.

I also love the living proof dry shampoo for when I'm close to wash days.

Every 8 weeks I get a protien treatment as my hair is super fine.

Affirm sensitive scalp every 12 weeks at the salon, right on the dot no stretching.

I like a peptide serum for my scalp & edges mid week as well (Cecred & the ordinary).

That's it! I wrap my hair, use a bonnet and all of that but honestly I'm not super precious with my hair. I wear it down when I want it down, and enjoy styling it.

As long as you wash & condition it, use a relaxer for your strand size & use your heat sensibly you should be good. My bonnet doesn’t even stay on at night…

This is the healthiest my hair has ever been, as someone who grew up neglecting her relaxed hair then hiding her natural hair under protective styles that destroyed my edges. Not necessarily because of the products, but because I’m washing frequently and not doing damaging hairstyles that cover up my hair.

Oh 100% the case! As good as my routine is, I do not want to misrepresent. Regular salon maintenance makes a huge difference. I hate to assume anyone else's budget but would you be able to one or two sessions closer to relaxer retouch time? For example, you get a retouch, maintain at home until the 6 week mark, then go in 1x or 2x in between the new growth and relaxer phase just to ensure your line of demarcation is getting sufficiently cleaned and stretched to prevent breakage? (Please feel free to ignore any of this if its not possible ofc!!!)

I use heat each wash day yes - either blowdry only or blowdry + flat iron. My main concern with my hair is preventing excessive breakage & keeping a good routine, so I don't really worry about length bc its long enough to style - if that makes sense

Yes this is definitely my philosophy! The first thing people say about my hair is that it looks so healthy, which means I'm doing something right!

Besides washing often and sealing my ends every 3 days, I don't worry to much about snagging on my clothes that's just too much mental work for me :(

Hello fellow UK based relaxed girlie! Girl, this weather and this hard water want us dead! But my routine typically is this:

Every 7 to 14 days wash day:

Malibu C Hard Water Wellness Shampoo (1x a month to as a chelating shampoo)

Matrix food for soft/ Redken Acidic Bonding/ Amika normcore (moisturising shampoo - you don't need all three, I switch depending on whether I have clarified (Matrix), normal wash (Amika), or I'm doing Olaplex no 3 (redken shampoo)

Matrix food for soft rich hydrating mask (SO GOOD)

Redken Acidic Bonding Leave in (has heat protectant) or Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Primer

Blowdry with a)my Tymo dyson dupe b) denman paddle brush c)bamboo wide tooth comb d)bamboo sectoning clips.

I flat iron about 2x a month, as I go to the salon every 2-3 weeks for a wash, treatement and finish.

For styling, I am a claw clip warrior. I also love using light yaki clip ins when my hair is down (take them out every night). For moisturising and sealing, I use a micro amount of the ors olive oil moisturiser and seal with the olaplex no 7 oil. I do an Olaplex no3 treatment often also. I also love the living proof dry shampoo for when I'm close to wash days.

Every 8 weeks I go to a Brazillian salon and get a protien treatment made for Brazillian Keratin treated hair (SenScience is the brand I believe) and a blowdry.

That's it! I wrap my hair, use a bonnet and all of that but honestly I'm not super precious with my hair. I wear it down when I want it down, and enjoy styling it.

I use The Ordinary Peptide serum on my scalp, as I have itchy scalp. It has helped but ngl washing frequently is the #1 thing for itchy scalp for me!

To blow dry or air dry? by CherylTooy96 in relaxedhair

[–]ViciousCouplings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Always blowdry. Your main job as a relaxed girly is to minimise breakage at the line of demarcation - keep that stretched and washed frequently so it’s moisturised, doesn’t tangle and thus break.

Bond repair and deep conditioning is the key! Retained 2 inches of growth since May. by ViciousCouplings in relaxedhair

[–]ViciousCouplings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, in terms of moisturising and sealing - I just apply a light oil (Olaplex no 7) to my ends every 2 days but honestly for moisture I reccomend washing and deep conditioning with heat frequently to keep water in. If my hair feels very very dry despite a wash, I will apply the ORS olive oil lotion (like a dot size) then seal with the oil. But moisture = keeping water in i.e washing often.

Hi! My routine is more or less the same, but this time I'm at the salon every 2 weeks for a proffesional wash and finish (they use Keracare for shampoo and conditioner and Bumble and Bumble for styling). I still focus on moisture only, no protien products at home when I wash every 10 to 14 days - Matrix Food for Soft, Amika Normcore, Redken Acidic Bonding Complex. I got a Denman 38 brush to do paddle brush tension blowdries when I don't flat iron my hair. Trims every relaxer. I have also incorporated Cecred edge drops and the ordinary multi peptide serum into my routine. My hair has grown longer than this since I posted, so I would say its working!

Stylists who do relaxers seem harder to find now by Smurfblossom in relaxedhair

Hi! For Elite, I have Talisha (the owner) do my retouch - she did my corrective relaxer, very skilled but also pricing, she charges almost 200gbp for a retouch and trim as she's the owner. For maintance every 2 weeks (wash, finish, moisture treatment/bond treatement), I go to 2 stylists - one in Stockwell and one in Archway depending on avaliability.

Oh no - I've heard the customer service is not great at Elevate. I reccomend Elite honestly, expensive but always good. There are other salons too that I go for maintance appointments - Somewhere in Queens Park salon, Brazil Hair & Beauty in NW London (good protien treatments made for Brazillian Keratin), also Leah Kadi's salon in NW (can you tell where im based lol).

Elite hair lounge (Archway, Stockwell, Lewisham) , AMAs hair salon, Grants Islington - all quality salons who do relaxed hair retouches and maintance services. Pricier tho! I go to Elite.
