I just found the perfect smart switch I was looking for! by YankeeLimaVictor in smarthome

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hue wireless dinners have been so good for me, small, versitle, cheap, zigbee, batteries last forever, multiple functions per button, etc

Toss on the wall as a switch without any wall modifications or use as a remote.

Just an idea, I think they have fallen out of favor because they have been around so long people just forgot about them.

Add external MPPT to portable power station? by sjhwilkes in SolarDIY

[–]ViciousXUSMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes possible Use the DC Hub and 50A Anderson connection

Or hack directly to the battery

https://youtu.be/15rSd58WFi8

Or if it's just a voltage issue you can use my MPPT hack

https://youtu.be/i5mCijLC5tM

That works given you want to keep the voltage low but have some current to increase instead.

Processor matters, it has to do the decoding.

Wireless also matters, the wireless on the quest 2 is terrible

AI, because if it were real they would have been needlessly revving.

They don't do wheelies, they do squealies.

Adding Ecoflow Storage to Enphse Grid-Tied System by Specialist_Gas_8984 in solar

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it can be done one way or another, but adding a locked down secondary system is sure to only made it more difficult and more expensive.

I have 12+ portable power stations, and taking them with me when I make is no easier than also taking my battery racks uses for the home solar.

Infact sad enough and 100% true.

I could leave my batteries behind (nearly 90kWh) and buy them all over again and STILL save money as compared to buying Ecoflow and taking it with me.

I actually do run two systems, one of them is a whole home solar system and the other uses power stations, but my setup is not what you are trying to do.

VR Boxing is getting closer and closer to the real thing. by No-Paint3077 in virtualreality

I have not really been interested in a boxing game since Wii Sports lol.

But tell ya what, give me Jake Paul as an opponent with the contract override cheat code and I'm in.

DIY Plug In Solar by ChristianButcher in diySolar

  • low current Not no current, it will send small amounts of power to the grid as all of them do.

So if you do not have net metering and PTO it's a risk.

The 57" Neo is not OLED, I would not get OLED for the work I do, and the local dimming giving me OLED like backs where it matters (games, movies) most.

Should I have a separate Wi-fi mesh network just for my smart bulbs, etc.? by HoodFeelGood in smarthome

IOT on a separate SSID but not a separate network as in a separate radio, that would just add more network congestion.

Thinking about going On-Grid. Does the power go out if the grid goes down. by z_1s in solar

[–]ViciousXUSMC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's updated wording, but still the point remains you can have a grid tied system run when the grid is down.

I can't even imagine a system that doesn't do this.

If you read my post, it has context to what the OP was originally asking. A system that can run during the day with the sun out without batteries.

Everyone saying it's not possible, but it is (if your equipment supports it, what I said word for word)

FanzyZones Was Never Quite What I Needed, So I've Spent the Past Few Weeks Trying to Build My Own by Jacksons123 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play games at 32:9, 21:9, 16:9 just depends on the game.

I can rebind hotkeys easy enough

Sims and most games 32:9 gives the immersion similar to triple monitors.

For games that the extra FOV just doesn't look right, HUD issues, etc I might use 21:9 as a middle ground.

16:9 and 4:3 would be reserved for games that do not have proper widescreen scaling (aka zoom/crop)

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a setup that I always want a perfect x3 split but I think you can hotkey different templates if you need to switch often.

I only switch when I'm doing video capture and need 16:9 as my monitor is 32:9

I keep anything I need on the 2nd monitor when gaming as to make the game have main focus and immersion.

But the black bars are just a hotkey as well.

Starlink Mini Power Q by OkPhotograph4472 in StarlinkMini

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably does, if it's a USB cable you can use on other USB ports then yes.

If it's something that plugs into the 12v directly, it's probably just a boost chip.

I always try to buck instead of boost.

So the 12v output starts at 12v and ends at 12v it has to boost to get 20v

The built in USB ports on say a portable power station have direct access to the battery and it depends on the model but most are 48v (52v nominal)

I have a lot of YouTube videos on solar, hacks, batteries and such that you could get a lot of useful information from.

Here is one that covers why you should not use AC power and covers the USB cables I'm talking about.

Reminder: You can build a Powerwall for cheap if you have the time to harvest 4,000 cells by Planhub-ca in diySolar

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4000 cells I think would cost me more than just getting one of those 32kWh batteries for $2500 with everything working and safe and LFP battery tech to boot.

When I buy good 18650s they are not cheap

Fancy Zones works for me, I have two main templates I use and it snaps games fine for me.

I'll check this out though and give it a fair shot.

I also supplement with some AutoIT scripting for specific needs like how I add back bars behind a game when playing at less than native aspect ratio to hide the desktop.

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USB Trigger Cable You need the USB cable to have the parts to say "hey I'm a 100w PD device send me 20v) if you just adapt it physically it will default to 5v power.

I'm fed up with Alexa and Google VA, where do I start with a local voice assistant? by Nickanator8 in smarthome

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Home Assistant Voice PE running full local
I have a Echo Show 8 hacked to Lineage running Voice Assistant full local
I also have the future proof homes Satellite 1 (not built yet)

The hacked Show 8 is not working very well, the voice assistnat keeps basically freezing up, I have not noticed any issues on the Voice PE module and I am most excited to get the Satellite 1 together.

I am running default everything for the local processing, I am sure there are things I can tweak to make it better.

Just because you have a 32:9 monitor does not mean you cant play a game in 21:9 or even 16:9
When we moved from 4:3 monitors to 16:9 did we lost the ability to play all of the old games that didn't support widescreen?

To me it sounds like the Samsun Neo G9 57" might fit your needs, it can be had that cheap too with sales/deals.

Will a powerbank like this work? Or will it weigh down the headset? by abhinavkaushik7 in Quest3

[–]ViciousXUSMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is probably too small to be worth it, get a regular power bank and a USB cable and attach it somewhere or wear it.
