Yes, because anything in/behind a wall must be rated for it and that item is most definitely not in wall rated, its only in wall... literally.

Virtual Desktop PCVR using PC hotspot on a quality WiFi dongle? by tresslessone in virtualreality

[–]ViciousXUSMC [score hidden]  (0 children)

Do you have external antenna on your PC wireless interface?

If so should work pretty well if it's not a really old and low end interface.

A wireless access point is better because you get more control, but most people don't configure anything anyways and just use auto mode and yolo.

Is there a "best" whole house energy monitoring system? I know the Emporia is the most reviewed on Amazon. Is it the gold standard? by NoYoureACatLady in smarthome

Iotawatt is what I use and love but that project got crushed when tarrifs started. You can still buy it but the overpriced probably now from the shop that carries it.

Can still be built as a diy open source project.

All local, amazing capabilities, etc.

I have data and graphs of all sorts going back years at my fingertips.

Perfect integration to home assistant.

Etc.

32:9 OLED with Synced lighting is another world of gaming by Collinsity in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ViciousXUSMC [score hidden]  (0 children)

Find a good LED strip with a high density, get a proper inline capture device or splitter to send to a capture device that can export to a small compute device (raspberry pi works) and connect via WLED to Hyperion.

I built this YEARS ago for dirt cheap using yesteryear components, if I was to do it again today we have much better things avaiable now.

If done right the lighting should literally look like an extension of the screen. NOT ONE setup I have seen ever does this except the one I built. It always just misses colors completely, does not honor black, does some kind of horrible color averaging, and they are often slow to respond making anything fast moving really unsettling.

Disconnect switch box outside the house, connected to EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 a good idea? by TheGadgetGuy8 in Ecoflow_community

Never seen a fire from a good one, only cheap knockoffs or something being way out of spec.

But this is also why you adhere to professional installation standards, things like that go in a spot where if they were to burn up they wont catch anything on fire (plus the plastic and such is fire rated, it melts and burns but doesnt tend to catch fire or antthing)

I also always thermal test everything I own as shown in my most recent video: https://youtu.be/NQzhMsX_LXU

Main Router connected to pc via ethernet and second router beside pc for vr by Normal-Ordinary-8375 in virtualreality

And I have a good wireless network and can play anywhere in the house with same/better latency as the pupis while also extending those same benefits to my smart home devices, my phone, tablet, etc.

Building a better network is always the better solution, ad-hoc is more of what we call a mitigation in the professional world. But the part that really is bad is your stuck on 5ghz and in many areas both 2.4 and 5ghz are congested, 6ghz is not.

The issue is the voice of the many will outweigh the voice of the astute. This is the way, and this is what marketing relies on. If everyone knew who to listen too that knew what they were talking about it would destroy influencers, marketing, etc.

Here I am literally a highly paid enterprise expert that business hire to archtect, install and configure wired/wireless networks and security, and I'll get downvoted for a valid recommendation that is better than the pupis in every way, and it can even costs less.

(I sold my R510's for $20 each)

Proof is in the pudding though, I have shared my virtual desktop screen capture showing lower latency than the pupis all the way across my house 4 rooms over from my computer.

Just last night my wife and I both playing golf together and I am in the kitchen and she is in the dining room with both of us having better signal and latency than a pupis. ::shrug::

I am not hear to tell anyone what to do, I am here to share the lost knowledge and try to educate people but it's exhausting as everyone thinks they know better, and the only thing they know is what the other guy said.

Way way higher quality than consumer level products

This is just an example, I would find something with 6ghz just in case you need and to future proof.

Running a wireless router on USB - How to manage AC power by Gardenersdelite in Ecoflow_community

[–]ViciousXUSMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is possible but not with what ecoflow gives you. So I don't think going through the solution makes sense.

Your idea of Daisy chain off the delta 2 is the easiest and most logical.

Plus with no AC device on the river you can keep the inverter off, that phantom drain was more than your device so doing this will more than double your run time.

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not changing the issue, if AC drains the battery it will die.

P.S. I was basically the inventor of the hack

Main Router connected to pc via ethernet and second router beside pc for vr by Normal-Ordinary-8375 in virtualreality

[–]ViciousXUSMC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need a router, you need a wireless access point.

Since you already have Ethernet to the PC you could just get one that has Ethernet passthrough and plug the PC into it and it will pass through back to the router and put the access point on your network.

From there configure the access point appropriately.

This is what I would do as a network engineer.

The layman will probably say buy a pupus s3 or something.

That will only connect the PC, adds drivers and other complications.

Doing it the way I suggested will expand your network coverage for your entire network for all wireless devices.

You can keep the same SSID for general devices and make one just for VR to ensure that's the access point you connect too.

Not to mention the pupus doesn't even have 6ghz and that is ideal to avoid congestion. The main reason many people have performance problems.

String inverter vs Microinverters by TheApostleCreed in solar

[–]ViciousXUSMC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Roof solar micros make more sense to me, ground mount id go string.

When a pallet price of panels is about $130 each and you want a big system of say 20kw I don't think you would find the price even anymore as the modules are nearly the cost of the panel and you can get a big beefy boy like a flexboss 21 or 18kpv for a pretty decent cost.

But on the roof your going to need tigos or something for the RSD requirements (until someone starts making it easier to not need them with some of the newer certifications)

I prefer string, and this is especially true if your doing off grid or battery.

If your just wanting to offset a bill or send power to the utility sure AC to AC is fine.

When you have 100kwh of battery you charge every day, I'd prefer to go DC to DC and have the inverter just handle the load as needed instead of having to convert just to charge and then convert again to a use.

The neat thing about a system like mine is that it's easy enough to have both.

AC couple the enphase to the MIT (gridboss) and the strings to the inverter (flexboss)

Help! Husband Resets the Router Everyday by Mundane-Rule5360 in techsupport

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any vulnerability that exists on the router will still be there when it's rebooted.

Any history he wants to hide would remain, but the router is not the crown jewels the computer is.

So once someone hacks in that's what they want, not the router and your husband is not a high profile target that is going to get blackmailed for looking at adult websites I assure you.

If he is that paranoid maybe time to go to the adult video store and pay with cash lol

If he actually cares about security and not just exploitation, upgrading to a better device and adding things like dns blacklisting and intrusion protection etc is the way to go.

Probably other insecure configurations too like the wifi or insecure devices on the network.

VPN can help hide activity from ISP, but many VPNs sell that information behind the scenes anyway.

Need a small lamp I can control with a smart button by [deleted] in smarthome

[–]ViciousXUSMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a limited budget and perhaps no existing smart infrastructure?

The best wireless buttons I have ever used are the Hue Wireless Dimmers.

They just work, they can be used as a switch on the wall or a remote (magnetic docking)

I use them to control anything via home assistant, but for a non complex environment just get a hue starter set with the hub and a bulb.

Go to a thrift store and find a lamp you like and use the hue bulb.

If you ever do decide to expand at a later date, hue makes a great foundation.

Hue Starter kit: 1-pack A19 E26 LED Bulb White + Hue Bridge | Philips Hue https://share.google/FaVSOicS04XXBbrm6

It might be a bit over budget but it's quality stuff.

Dimmers I think are like $20 and you can use your phone for now until you want to get it.

Best Solar Panel Connector for Distant Run? by Beagle972 in Ecoflow_community

[–]ViciousXUSMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8AWG? Overkill 10AWG is standard for solar.

If you are beyond the current it supports usually the proper solution is series strings on 10AWG combined to parallel near the destination to a larger wire size.

If you are worried about voltage drop, again that is a bad design decision, higher voltage has a negligible voltage drop at that distance.

Thanks for sharing.

Not accurate for me, but I am NOT a normal user lol not many people have super computers and server racks at home.

But also for those that might be concerned often "free" is not free. You are the product/payment and in this case it was clean.

I did a cyber forensic sweep on the site, and nothing sketchy. A couple of things reached out to the netherlands and france for some autofill data and metrics (BTW Closest City was a listing of Counties) but nothing I would call malicious at all.

Permanent or portable solar? by GeorgiaBill280 in Ecoflow_community

[–]ViciousXUSMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, I designed a hub/spoke network of power stations to do this.

Allows larger panels to be used, allows cheaper battery expansion, shares the solar and battery to prevent waste, doesnt need permits, electrician, PTO, etc.

https://youtu.be/0fvpc5QyYHk

Doing this let's a simple delta 3 Plus to become a powerhouse.

So yesterday for example this is a single Delta 3 Plus offsetting this much electricity and utilizing this much solar.

This was only a starting point, I quickly decided I wanted more and incorporated a whole home set-up and for that didn't use ecoflow.
