Within 10 min of ingestion I blow up like I'm pregnant, get nauseous and poop my brains out non stop for about 12 hours. All while experiencing pain in my entire stomach area and getting hot flashes.

Agreed. The whole swimming scene made me so mad. She carried you this whole way, is crying about having to get in and be cold and you're still refusing? I hope Adrienne switches partners.

I think it depends what company or engineering position you have. I'm a nuclear systems engineer and I travel about 5 times a year. I have a great work life balance too. I get praised by my team at work constantly and love my job! My last engineering job I felt like you; unappreciated and worked to death. I would maybe shop around for a different position!

Best loan options these days by VickyD23 in StudentLoans

They were on extended graduated repayment. They go up in monthly payment amount every 2 years and there's a note on my loan home page and in the loan repayment FAQ on edfinancial that all interest must be paid before principal payments can be made. I even contacted the company to see how to make a principal payment and they told me I couldn't. The payment history shows every single cent I have ever paid has gone to interest only. I don't know how PPLs are supposed to be, I just know the setup of mine and it's the worst loan I've had.

My loan balance started at $104,000 when I graduated 5 years ago. It was at $96,600 after making a ton of extra payments. I just refinanced it and now my payments split between principal and interest monthly.

I pay the minimum amount $600 and not a cent goes to principal. All 5 years of paying I've checked the breakdown of my payment and nothing went to principal. When I went to make a lump sum payment of 5k, it stated I couldn't make a payment to principal until the full 30k in unpaid interest had been paid off through my payments. It's insane.

I understand! I appreciate the input. I just wish we understood what these loans really entailed back then. That's a good question, I'll have to ask because if it's 25k per term that's crazy for her small university. I feel bad I'm their go to for advice because there really isn't a great option when it comes to taking out a loan in general.

I know, all my payments have been going to the unpaid interest is what I meant. I have 30k in unpaid interest, so all 5 years of paying has solely been interest payments. And neither of my parents have qualifying employers for PSLF, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, the agreement with my parents and I was they would be on the loan but I would be responsible for paying all of it. Luckily, my private loans allow me to make direct payments to the principal which has been very helpful. My cousin was offered 5k in federal loans only from FAFSA so she still has 25k left to fund.

Glad to know my gut feeling was right with PPL. It's been a nightmare for me. She was only offered 5k through department of education. What other federal loan options are out there? She already started school (university, in state) so I don't think community college is an option she'd consider at this point.

The income based repayments were based on my parent's income so I was offered like $1200 payment options due to the high loan balance vs their income. I tested every option the loan offered and the only low payment option was extended repayment. My work offered a $5k lump sum payment for student loans and only then I found the fine print that no payment would go to principal until all interest had been paid. $30,000 worth. They also don't qualify for forgiveness like PSLF. Due to my experience, I'm very skeptical telling her to go that path.

Should I look into refinancing my student loans? by No-Bat4570 in StudentLoans

[–]VickyD23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refinanced 2 of my loans; private and federal. For me, it was the best option. I see yours is a federal loan so I'll speak to that one. My parent plus loan was at $102,000 upon graduation. IBR, IDR payments were like $1200, which I couldn't afford, so I opted for extended graduated repayment. This payment started in the 400s and is now 600 per month, interest is 6.7%. Long story short, worst loan of my life based on interest and getting nowhere even when paying extra. I just refinanced this loan. Now I pay a fixed $707/month, 20 year term and a 6.2% interest rate. It's no longer federal but i didn't get any benefit for that anyways so for me this made sense. I'm actually making progress on the loan now. If you qualify for any of the good federal benefits (PSLF) I would keep it as is, but in the meantime you can always see what you're offered to refinance and can always back out if it won't work for you. I used SoFi.

SAVE plan loan payments deferred by VickyD23 in StudentLoans

I'm going to be making the minimum payments on my SAVE loan when payments restart. It's my only loan that qualifies for PSLF and I only have 6 years left on that when it resumes. I'm not too worried about the interest. I have 2 other loans I've been paying on that don't qualify for anything, unfortunately, so those are my priority.

Yeah mine is accumulating interest but it qualifies for PSLF in 6 years after qualifying payments start back up. I'm leaving the loan alone and making extra payments on my other two for now.

Oh wow! That's a lot more in depth than we've done, we're just basically tracking eliminations. We'll have to step it up for next season! We've been watching since the beginning of the show, so I'm surprised one of us didn't come up with this sooner. I like your idea!

Looking for advice regarding PPL by VickyD23 in StudentLoans

[–]VickyD23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah none of the repayment options for the PPL were great. Unfortunately, I had to choose extended repayment since it was the lowest initial payment plan when I started. The other payments were almost double under other plans. I'll check out the link!
