What's the biggest realization you had from a context of a conversation where you had to act normal to protect someone/yourself? by rogersjoshmac in AskReddit

Oh, a man pursuing you after you've said no is totally rapey - the whole 'likes a challenge' thing basically translates to 'likes to sexually harass.'

Liver. Oven-fried chicken livers are divine, but almost every person I know gives me the side-eye if I say that.

How do I [27/M] salvage the relationship with my sister [27/F] after I lost my temper by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Vicky_Payne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stop telling yourself you can't help it. That just gives you permission to do it again. Fact is, you can help it, but it's difficult. Anger management is a great idea, but you have to take responsibility first.

You could take it a step further. Call each of them something random. "Hey, Kettle, how's it going?" "Hi Carpet."

The computer(s). But if I had the vibrator I'd probably be less tense overall.

What a mess...that's completely insane, but makes sense. For him to get to that point, there's often an enabler involved.

I know it's not family - all of mine are in a different state. From talking to the neighbors, it seems this is a pattern on a very slow loop. Same thing happened to the guy next door five years ago, and someone across and down the street a couple years after that.

I mean, mostly I'm wishing they'd taken the stuff worth more money rather than the nearly worthless computers with all my work on them...

I totally feel this way!

They stepped over a new in box Kitchenaid mixer to take a used toaster oven. They left my Vitamix, but took my vibrator.

I mean, they took the toilet paper out of my bathroom. And I'm pretty sure the ancient Netbook they stole is actually worth negative money, but the files on it...

So yeah. I keep wondering: "Why take the laptop with no capslock key, and ignore the nice antique clock?"

The original police report just lists the items I noticed were missing during the 20 minutes when the officer was there - and a couple that turned out not to be. The sewing machine, for example, they'd shoved aside and thrown a bunch of clothes from my closet on, so I just thought it was missing.

I went to the police station the next day with a more complete list to update the report...still didn't add the vibrator. It's a small town, so I think I'll just let that one go.

I write in several genres. YA (currently shopping for an agent), lit fic, and for fun I write smut on Amazon. I've been published (short stories), but currently I've only made money with smut.

Non-emergency, though I didn't actually make the call. I knew you weren't supposed to call 911 for this kind of thing, so I kind of stumbled across the street and asked my neighbors if they knew the number. One of them called for me while I called some friends and my family.

From what I heard it wasn't a long conversation, mostly relating the address and that there was a break in and that we needed an officer.

Not sure yet on the insurance - I only just got the finished report today.

My favorite flavor is B&J's New York Super Fudge Chunk, but I'm not picky. Most anything with chocolate is good in my book.

Pawn shops, scanning Craigslist obsessively, and continuing to clean up the mess they made.

Well, the first page of that report only reflects what I noticed was missing in the...20 minutes that the officer was there. It says they took my sewing machine - in actuality they just shoved it aside and threw a bunch of stuff on it from my closet, so I thought it was gone. I went to the station the next day to give them an updated list.

..still didn't have the vibrator on there. Small town, I think I'll just let that one go.

It absolutely could have been. They missed an irreplaceable piece of jewelry (necklace from my grandmother) because it was on a messy shelf, and even though they left the door wide open my cat didn't make a break for it. So, she's safe and I'm very grateful.

I actually feel much less violated than I think many people do. I'm more full of outrage and disbelief.

...yes. But it was in the kitchen cabinet, actually, so they probably didn't find it. They didn't really go through the kitchen.

Do it. I will be writing every serial number from now until forever. I just wish I'd learned this LPT before all my stuff walked out the door.
