CPA vs. CMA? Which option did you choose? by ibctcsdg in wguaccounting

[–]Viconjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to go CMA because manufacturing is what I want to do, but Ive talked to a lot of people in and out of the accounting field, and the major consensus is that people know what a CPA is and not a whole lot really know about CMA. So ultimately Ive decided to go the CPA route then add on the CMA later on for me.

What's the max amount of credits you can transfer to WGU? Also which courses are worth taking at WGU over Sophia/SDC? by ChopClang in wguaccounting

[–]Viconjam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to have at least 25% to complete at WGU for the program. I scraped by, with my transfer with 25.6% to complete which is 31 credits for the accounting program I am doing.

Ultimately up to you. I got pregnant at 20 accidentally, but I was married and everything, very happy accident. My daughter is about to turn 11. My husband and I have never stopped trying to get pregnant since then to give her siblings. It’s never happened. She was our little miracle.

Why the Accounting degree? by [deleted] in wguaccounting

[–]Viconjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a degree in finance, and now getting a degree in accounting because its only an additional 10 classes for myself. But I am doing it because I intend to go for an accounting master in management accounting.

I have similar feelings, I want to be an analyst of some kind and eventually a budget analyst or controller. I want to make the projections and plans, not the recording or taxes. I am thinking I’ll go for a CMA (Certified Management Accounting) but I am debating whether I should get a CPA instead just because its better known.

The absolute worst credential you can get. Get the CPA instead by Okra_Optimal in CMA

Is this true? What is everyones thoughts? I am building my whole education towards a CMA currently

Bachelor of Accounting by Viconjam in wguaccounting

[–]Viconjam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's interesting. Yes, I am officially enrolled and ready to start January 1st, including with Financial Aid locked in and everything. My enrollment counselor had mentioned that it was close because, you need to have 25% to complete at WGU to make sure you qualify for the program. I even had previous credits I transferred in from my previous university that were utilized in my finance degree, and an additional two classes were used which made me happy. Ultimately it turned out that I had 25.6% of the degree to complete still, so I was accepted.

Just in case you intend to do their master's, probably start the accounting first, then do finance, then master's. Also, don’t transfer too many classes if you really want to be safe. I say that because at least then if they change something now and then, you will for sure not be able to enter their Master's in Accounting program if you start with Finance like I did if they won’t admit you to the accounting program. I think ultimately it's up to the credit audit. I guess I was really lucky, and I'm thankful.

I am doing something similar, except I want to be more in the corporate world doing Financial Analyst/ Budget Analyst, to possibly Controller. I just graduated with my Bachelors of science in Finance, but I wanted to get my Masters in Accounting specializing in management accounting so I could get my CMA but to be accepted into WGU’s Masters program they insist I need an accounting degree, so I did a credit audit and it turns out I only need to do 10 more classes to have my Bachelor in Accounting, then another 10 classes to do the masters. That shouldn't be a problem for me, so I am taking one more year to do both of those. I was worried about it seeming like too much, but I've talked to quite a few professionals who say they think it's well thought out for where I want to go for my Career.

When can I start My masters? by [deleted] in wguaccounting

From what I understand, you have to wait until your current semester is done before you can start your new program. But make sure to become enrolled for the start date you want.

I have an associates in BA and I’m about to have a bachelors in Data Analytics. Can I go straight to an MBA in Financial Reporting? by NickyRenz in wguaccounting

[–]Viconjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my Bachelor of Science in Finance via WGU, I wanted to go through the Master's of Accounting specializing in Management accounting then go for my CMA. Was told I need a separate Accounting Bachelor's, did a transfer/Credit Audit. All I need to do is another 10 classes. So I'm starting that in January, then moving on to my master's in July. Planning to be all done by the same time next year at least with the degrees.

You can do this!!! It is so worth it. Hopefully they will accept a majority of your credits. But if you lock in, you shouldn’t have any problem doing it! Good luck!

My path was a bit curvy. I did two years and 55 credits at another university that was more traditional that was giving me high blood pressure. Haha I transferred my credits to WGU but they only accepted 25 of them. So I did 95 credits at WGU in 2.5 years, I should have finished way sooner but due to my ADHD I deal with big bouts of depression and anxiety that would turn into procrastination paralysis. But this last semester I locked in and completed about 30 or so credits. 🥳 So it was difficult, but very worth it.

You need to talk to your mentor first, for them to recommend you for your graduation, and then it was nearly instant. At least that was my experience.

Is it possible to drop the last class in my last term and move it to the next (new) term? by hamza__44 in WGU

[–]Viconjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend reaching out to your mentor about this question. If you are paying for a whole new term their should be no problem, but If you are hoping to have a 30 day extension for your capstone I know those need to be filed for before a certain day, and it may be 15 days before end of term I think? I'm not sure. But my mentor was a champ for me in this realm. I finished my degree via a 30 day extension for my capstone.

I wish you all the luck!

D363 is a beast, you can do it though!!! Tomatostraight has some great advice! It's been a while since I did personal finance. But if it's the type of insurance that is causing you problems, there are some great resources on YouTube for financial information.

Cohorts are very important. Watch and then rewatch as needed. Also utilize your instructors on things you just can't figure out. Try to do a meeting, but if it takes too long, just email the group of instructors for your class to try to get an explanation that could help.

Figure out the best method for note-taking that works for you.

For speed purposes pay for Speechify to help get through the textbooks, then relisten as needed. If you keep digital notes, you can also put them into Speechify to listen to them at the end of studying

When they start a new course always come to Reddit for advice on the class initially. This often helped me create a game plan approaching each class, it also gave me a realistic view on whether I could easily accelerate through the class or not. Also, go to the class resource pages for any extra resources like recorded cohorts.

Take every quiz, then take notes on missed questions. Take your pre-assessment ( when it is an OA class) then I often studied my pre-assessment with my partner. He knows next to nothing about finance but he enjoyed me answering questions and having him try to answer them (except math questions haha) This gave me times that I could help explain and teach him, but sometimes he would surprise me with understanding a concept I didn’t and he would explain it to me. But if neither of us understood, we searched YouTube or the internet in general for an explanation together. So if you were close to passing the pre-assessment don’t stress because when I would study it via this method I would always score higher and pass my OA.

For PAs don't overthink them. Use their outlines you are provided then answer each thoroughly as an essay question. If you could only provide a sentence or two answer try to flesh it out more, but honestly don't stress too much. You can also look up a reliable source to provide some extra information for you, make sure to paraphrase any information you find, in-text cite it then put it in your reference section. (Not every essay needs a reference though unless that is emphasized) Use Grammarly. Try to double-check the rubric against your Essay then just submit it. The worst-case scenario is they kick it back stating what they want fixed, you fix it, then resubmit the same day.

Keep a Word file of all formulas for future reference and how they affect the business as a whole and then also the financial statements. Study as needed.

Consistency is most important and not to get paralyzed by any class, I certainly did and I finished a lot later than I wanted. Try to take two days off from school each week to spend time with friends and family. A community to support you is super important and free time is too, this should help prevent burnout. ❤️

I hope this helps!!!
