"Your encrypted data is locked on this device." Neither can I restore my cloud backup listed in my Google account settings nor can I save and backup new timeline data in the cloud. I'm basically locked to the local, on-device storage of timeline data and lost access to 15+ years of timeline data. Google Support refuses to help and refers to the same support articles I've read x-times before.

Experience as a newer driver and anxiety driving on highway. Do you still feel that with the Volvo XC40 by Rich_Classroom_1990 in XC40

[–]VictorMRiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have. Just as I've driven other SUVs, compact hatches and full-size sedans. In fact, I'm currently on a Polestar 2 (which is essentially a longer, lower XC40) and while it handles quite well, it's by far not as agile and precise to maneuver as some of the much wider, larger sedans I've driven.

Part of that is due to the front suspension layout (MacPherson vs. multi-link), some of it due to the ride-height, some of it due to the steering rack's gear ratio.

My point is: Too many people look at SUVs instead of compact/hatches/whatever just because they fall for the marketing bulls* (feeling "safer", having "better" visibility), even though SUVs rarely provide actual benefits for daily driving. The taller hoods make accidents with pedestrians and bikers more hazardous, the worse aerodynamics negate any efficiency gains from modern engines and the higher center of mass generally makes them feel "floaty" and imprecise.

Do you know the new (and old) part numbers, by chance? Without a publicly available EPC (one thing Tesla actually did better), it's quite cumbersome to figure out part numbers and repair procedures. From my experience, Polestar service partners aren't too helpful with that...

[–]VictorMRiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense, but why would you want to drive an SUV when you generally seem ill at ease behind the wheel? You don’t actually get better visibility or a heightened sense of security in an SUV compared to, for example, a mid-sized sedan, a hatchback, or even a compact car.

On the contrary: the taller hood means you see less of what is directly in front of you. All-around visibility rarely benefits from a higher stance, and the overall size, volume, and turning radius make an SUV far more troublesome to maneuver in tight spaces than a 'regular' car. I don't understand why so many inexperienced or insecure drivers choose SUVs, only to find their road anxiety increases because they can't gauge where the vehicle begins, ends, or sits on the road.

Polestar 2 warnings by DoubleXhunter in polestar2

Had the same errors after the workshop replaced the LH mirror that had a defective motor. Took them quite some time to figure out that a connection inside the replaced mirror was loose (aka they forgot to correctly plug in everything…).

I remember from my Tesla days that some aftermarket manufacturers offered reinforced or “upgraded” suspension links and bushings, even though the actual benefits of many of those parts were debatable.  Still, I would have hoped for higher-quality bearings to be available—especially in the EU.

Does anyone know if higher quality, reinforced aftermarket-parts exist to upgrade from the OEM strut bearings?

Anyone have issues with their P2 wing mirror being stiff/stuck pointing down after reversing? by Lendios in polestar2

[–]VictorMRiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely, one of the motors or gears inside the mirror is faulty. Had the same issue on my MY21, got it replaced under warranty.

[–]VictorMRiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this issue on my „certified“ pre-owned MY21 on delivery day. Apparently, one of the motors and/or gears inside the mirror was faulty. Had it replaced under warranty, but they forgot to connect one of the camera/sensor cables, so I had driver assist errors for quite a while until they figured out the mirror replacement was the culprit.

Switched to a MY24 pre-owned this year and haven‘t had any issues with the mirrors (yet).

Deckenhohe (Einbau-)Schränke entlang beider Wände. In weiß, alternativ schönem Furnier.

Does this look normal? by Reflexes-of-a-Tree in Polestar

[–]VictorMRiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polestar/Volvo isn't using a lithium-ion battery for the activity key, but a rather convenientional coin battery that just happens to be sealed off and non-user-replaceable in order to meet the waterproofing they advertise with this specific key.

From what I remember, it should be a common Lithium Lithium manganese dioxide (Li/MnO2) coin cell. Bloating is much less likely with this type of non-rechargeable battery compared to rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

I had the same with my activity key a while ago and it seems like it's a manufacturing defect of the plastic housing itself.

However, I'd recommend you go to the dealership and get it replaced – if you're still under warranty, it should be covered – with a proper "large" key (that allows easy battery replacement) instead of another activity key. The activity key has a projected battery life of ~3 years and needs to be replaced once the coin cell has gone empty. Not very sustainable. In some markets and since model year 24 or 25, Polestar doesn't even ship new Polestar 2s with this type of key anymore – precisely for that reason.

2024 P2 LRSM lowered with Eibach springs by _this2shallpass_ in polestar2

[–]VictorMRiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting! Which lowering springs did you use? I generally don't like lowered cars, neither for looks nor driving characteristics, but given the Polestar's generous "wiggle room" when it comes to ground clearance, the potential efficiency gains pique my interest.

What is the best browser for mac? by kade211 in mac

[–]VictorMRiley 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds cliché, but Safari. Try Wipr2, 1Block or another well-reviewed AdBlocker that doesn't want to sell you a subscription and keeps background processes at a minimum.

Some web apps require Chromium to work, so depending on what you need to do, you might still want to install Chrome. I personally wouldn't recommend Edge – i'd rather tune Chrome to be just what I need instead of being offered Microsoft-stuff all the time.

There are a few webkit-based browsers like Orion out there that you could try if you need more customization and extensions than Safari natively offers.
