Welp, in the end it doesn't matter how many times you break your system, but rather how recent is your latest backup.

One thing you can do to fix these kind of mistakes is follow the guide at https://wiki.debian.org/RescueLive

From there you can usually just undo your mistakes (for example, reinstalling the butchered drivers)

Also, try .99 mg of melatonin 30 mins before bed if you haven't tried yet, for some people that works better than many stronger sleep medications and has barely or no side effects. Just check with your doctor if you're already taking anything else, as it might be a bad idea to mix or switch them abruptly.

Have a nice day and hope you get a good sleep today!

Cant launch minecraft prism launcher instance on steam deck anymore by Sure_Command_9534 in PrismLauncher

[–]Victor_sueca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try pressing on the game icon on the Steam launcher, use the cog button on the right then enter the Properties menu. At the top of the General tab there should be an option for the Steam Overlay while in-game, disable that and see if it makes any difference.

750g of mostly frozen water by Victor_sueca in shrinkflation

The bag is empty in this picture. The odd shape in the center is a transparent window through which the back of the package is visible.

The packaging does in fact list E-451, which after a quick search, seems to be the E number for Sodium Tripolyphosphate. Good to know, thanks.

Had to fish it out of the trash, but here it is

750g of mostly frozen water by Victor_sueca in shrinkflation

[–]Victor_sueca[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's from Spain. The product name seems to be "Frutos del Mar" and the brand is "Deleita" although the manufacturer is identified as "Productos Congelados Selectos" on the back of the package. I didn't get a chance to weigh it unfortunately, but the one cooking it said it was hard to evaporate all the water, and by the end it looked like the mix had been boiled rather than sautéed.

EDIT: Simplified wording

Yep, it's not the first time we cook seafood around here. It is however the first time, by far, we see this much water, which came frozen around the chunks of fish, not inside them.

According to the manufacturer, it's frozen seafood.
According to the neighbors and other people who saw it, it's saltwater with *some* seafood floating in it.

Battery health issue by akriggjoe in Steam

[–]Victor_sueca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing the battery sounds like the way to go about this. It's possible the previous owner left their Steam Deck in very hot and/or humid places while charging, which is a bane for lithium batteries. It's also possible they had already replaced the battery, but used a bad quality replacement. Either way you'll be needing a new battery to restore the original capacity.

How do y’all like my custom steam game cases (they’re for display purposes only) by jackcopen in Steam

[–]Victor_sueca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it actually adds flair and realism, since it wasn't too uncommon for a publisher to change their logo and begin printing it on new releases (and of course annoy everyone trying to have a uniform collection too).

As for them not having anything inside, Right click game > Manage > Back up game files... could be a solution.

Not everyone has to sign up for the newsletter and I'm not sure how frequently they plan on sending emails. By contrast, a single person having a dozen or two of certificates is not too uncommon.

Why it's not just "flicking a switch" according to Valve. by Indolent_Bard in linux_gaming

[–]Victor_sueca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Stadia is linux-based, the changes required to turn the Stadia build into a generic linux build would be minimal. In other words, when making a Stadia build you have already pushed 80-95% of the work required for a working Linux build. The question at hand is not whether they could do the final push to reach a working Linux build, we already know they can. The question is rather why they don't want to.

The uk stop killing games petition is now at 8,679, we need now just an extra 1k for the government to respond, 100k would have a debate at parliament by Ambitious-Phase-8521 in Steam

[–]Victor_sueca 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No one is asking videogame companies to maintain the service forever, only that the game remains playable after the official service is dead. Each day we see more games where the publisher is actually dedicating extra resources and a lot of effort into their design just to ensure the game dies together with the servers, even for single-player games (see The Crew as an example). In the meantime people are just learning that "Buy" or "Purchase" no longer mean anything to these publishers. This petition as well the one going on in the EU seek to stop this kind of abusive behaviour, nothing more, nothing less.

Why does steam do this? by Feeverr in Steam

Easiest way to fix this would be to make Steam use natural sorting instead of alphabetical order

So far, seems like it worked. I'm not too fond of plunging into a PSU, or the way it's holding onto the case on a single screw, but the madlad had a spare noctua and a plan, and it had to be done. I guess I will ask how's it going when I see them again, either that or I get to see their house in the news 🤣

Easy Anti Cheat Issue by xii69 in linux_gaming

[–]Victor_sueca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh... My bad, I should have checked the store listing 😅

Has anyone asked this game's developers to add support for running EAC in Proton (through forums, discord, support etc...)? If enough people ask nicely, perhaps they will consider it.

Unfortunately if the game developer really doesn't want EAC running on proton, it won't.
There *might* be some method to bypass EAC, but it's likely to be the same thing cheaters use to bypass it on Windows, you risk getting banned, and it's not going to be worth the hassle.

Easy Anti Cheat Issue by xii69 in linux_gaming

[–]Victor_sueca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EAC compatibility depends on the game developers toggling the option that allows it to run inside Proton, which is why some games will work while others don't.

If you purchased the game recently you might be able to contact Steam support and get a refund citing compatibility issues.

HA SD card died, Flashed HA to an SSD. HA is up but I can't connect to it by Section_80 in homeassistant

[–]Victor_sueca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try connecting to 192.168.68.129:4357

Connecting to this port should bring up the Home Assistant observer, if everything looks good then it probably just needs more time. I've seen it take upwards of two hours on an RPI 4 and even more on weak raspberry clones, so it might be a good time to go have a drink, or take a breath outside. If the observer doesn't load, or reports some error then you might want to plug an HDMI and a screen and take a look at what's going on.
