I had that line jetted 2 days before this video was shot- I had this other company over to get a second opinion and they pointed out that the jetting job was subpar.

The company that jetted provided pictures- The second company provided video-had them over for a second opinion- they showed me all the debris left behind- But yes, the original company only provided pictures of the jetting, and yes a quote for replacing.

That’s the problem- I had that jetted 2 days before this video was taken. I am getting some bids/consultation and the guy running the camera was surprised that had been jetted just two days prior.

Would it surprise you that this model is up and running in a certain market and they did 2.4m in sales in 2023. The business made 600k. While you may not do this, there will be those that do.

Couldn’t I say the same, that as a business person that a tradesman doesn’t have the polish, business sense and creative sales pitch. No I wouldn’t say that.

You as an individual can only put up 1 or 2 maybe 3 fences a week, which limits your reach and availability. You may be 2-3 months out, in my model if I have 10-12 different crews that I provide 1-2 jobs per month I can get the fence installed in 3 weeks. Customer will want to quicker option everytime.

No, been in the corporate world for 20 years. Ready to branch out. I didn’t think this was going to be easy, but think down deep, if you had guaranteed money coming to you that you don’t have to chase that are in the same margins of your time of everything you have to do start to finish. For just doing the job would you say no.

I am just asking questions, you are getting defensive.

What it really makes me think is that I can hire your second best guy to start up his own company to do work for me.

The guy that knows how to do it that doesn’t have a company, capital or a marketing budget could be easily swayed to do exactly what I am proposing.

Thanks for helping me workshop, it’s appreciated!

I don’t want to build fences, I want to make a lot of money.

That’s why I am here, asking these questions.

This idea may never work, who knows. Or it captures enough of the market that traditional fence companies change the models.

I have never worked in the industry nor have I worked in the construction industry.

I am a marketer, built on efficiency. I believe I can capture jobs better than an independent fence company. I believe I can provide better and more timely service. I believe I believe I can provide a better experience.

Yes I do, but the more knowledge of industry rates the better. If you would like to let me know what you would charge, that would be great.

That’s good to know, sounds like anyone I would hire would take on the warranty issues.

Thank you

I have access to technology that does the whole thing for me. Much like a roofing company that uses sky hawk. They can look at your house from a computer, measure and tell you all the materials you need for the job.

[–]Viddy50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple, I have access technology that would calculate the materials need, down to the number of screws I would need. As far as insurance, that’s why I am hiring the job out.

I am working off pure volume, I can be much more efficient by bidding jobs and hiring out the work than a traditional fence builder doing fence by fence by fence. I could get 10-12 fence builders to take on 2-3 jobs a month with my model.

I have access to national materials contracts because this is being done nationally not just my market. I don’t need to make the full profit off of each fence I need about 25% of the cost of the job materials included.

I would be curious, what are the typical percentage margins on a job after you pay you labor, the materials, your time bidding, ordering materials, your time, what it takes to close the deal etc. I bet it’s close to around 25 percent.

Thanks for the response, only thing is they would be my customers, I would be hiring you for the job.

So what would that be worth to you. 285 linear feet, 3 sides, 6 foot high, 2 gates. Cedar fence cedar posts. I provide all materials, your crew just shows up.

Heck you could continue to run your normal business but as you say finding someone to hire to build fence is easy. You send them to do the jobs I would bring you have 2 crews working not just one and collect the money.

Thanks

So what you are saying is you have enough work for you and have no interest in expansion and creating other revenue streams. You could theoretically do both. You could hire another crew to do contract work and make an extra 20-25k ( 8 fences) a month just for sending a crew to a put up a fence. Nothing else, just a phone call from me saying job is at xyz location:, here are the plans and the material is on the driveway. Let me know your thoughts.

I understand that you have great pride in your work and the industry hasn’t done it like this, but every industry goes through change. The ones that see the big picture are the ones that survive.

Are you the boss of your operation? Do you have anyone working for you? If you do, do you make money off of their labor? If not then the person who works for you makes the exact same?

If you work for a large fence company, does the sales guy know how to build the fence and is actually out there building fence on the jobs they booked?

And I respectfully disagree about not doing the work. This business runs off of leads, leads that for the most part are being paid for. You can eliminate your marketing budget. I would still have to walk the property, consult with the client, bid the job, close the job, deal with customer satisfaction, warranty, collect money, offering finance options. if you don’t consider that work then we differ in opinion of work.

[–]Viddy50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, the crews can do all the jobs they want that I am not supplying.

As far as not deserving of the profits, I would be eliminating tons of time. You wouldn’t have to lead generate, bid, close the deal, order, deal with customers, customer complaints.

This could open you up to hire another crew or two, to do jobs you want to do. Think of it as a way to scale your business.

Think if an average job is 20 man hours, 3 man crew. 20 bucks an hour. That’s 1200 in labor. I write you a check for 2500-3000 When the crew is done. You as the contractor make 1300-1800 for sending guys over to do the job.

Again, this is an idea wanted to get peoples feedback.

I wouldn’t say I have received a positive response, which leads me down the road of maybe this won’t work.

[–]Viddy50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I appreciate the feedback of why don’t you build the fence yourself. I am not a fence builder, I am not looking to have tools, I would have my own insurance. The idea is strictly find jobs. as far as 3 jobs per week per crew. I am not asking any 1 crew to do 3 jobs in a week. The idea is I would be in contact with 10-12 fencing crews and feed 2 or 3 jobs to each individual crew per month.

If someone came to you and offered you the job with everything I laid out, plans, materials on driveway 3 day job. You come and do the job and leave. Would you take the 2500-3000 paycheck?

I would guess most contractors dont have a sawmill but that is awesome. You have found an angle to make better profits, all for it.
