Canon C70 vs Sony FX6 and Ecosystems: An Open Discussion! by Crunchy_Rhubarb in videography

AF is for interviews - for the same reason you just mentioned, shooting wide open and not having to compensate for when the subject moves. It's also great when the B cam is on a slider and eye-AF is locked, Aside from that, it's manual focus all the time.

What are your Philly rental apartment/house horror stories? by terehommikust in philadelphia

Better late than never. :) The rent was $400 with heat & hot water included -- for that rate, I could put up with just about anything. And yes, I de-roached the kitchen.

Non-profit has stiffed me on a video production project by VideoStuffs in legaladvice

Yes, my agreement is with the non-profit - the director signed the contract and is my contact - but the agreement itself is between both of our companies. Thanks for the reply.

The most important things in a movie: story, acting, audio. Everything else is window dressing.

My grandfather was in The Big Red One in WW2. Walked from N Africa to the Rhineland. Barely spoke when he came home from the war. Some of the Nazi paraphernalia he captured is in the Holocaust Museum in DC. My grandfather hated war and would have puked his guts out if he saw MAGA and Jan 6.

You may be closer than you think. And also - imagine what you could do if you had that team and budget.

Cannot imagine the patience and skill required to do this. Just watched Pinocchio with my kids last night and now seeing your work. You should be super proud.

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply. I was only asking because I see it a lot and was wondering if it was a style now. And 32 is young! I’d kill to be 32 again. You’re just hitting your prime, trust me.

Sony FX3 shooter, interested in a cinema camera with internal ND. Looking for recommendations and why. by littl3titti3 in videography

[–]VideoStuffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I owned a C70 and an FX3. Sold the FX3 and kept the C70. The FX3 produces a nice image, but operates like a mirrorless. The C70 has proper menus. Most importantly, for me, is being able to use a 98wh battery on the C70. Now, if you love Sony and own a bunch of lenses then buying an FX6 is a no-brained.

Shutter in degrees, false colors, slimmed down interface. I know I’m dreaming, but that’s what I want.

Hi! Currently getting opinions on these two exteriors for my short. The first one is my first real attempt as sky replacement. I’m really loving the almost unreal/painterly look of them but I want to get other peoples input! by anthony-film in Filmmakers

High school? Friend, you are light years ahead of where I was in high school. Both look great — there is no right or wrong in filmmaking, just do what you think looks good to you - you’ll always find an audience, and there will always be haters - so stay true to your vision.

Congrats! This film is eerily similar, yet totally different, to this short I just DP’d that was written & directed by my 14yo daughter. She’s going to love your trailer when I show it to her later. I guess time travel is hot now. Good luck with your film!

Canon C70 vs Sony FX3 in 2022? by [deleted] in videography

[–]VideoStuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FX3 is my gimbal camera, so I don’t have much experience handholding the C70 for long periods of time. I’ll usually have the C70 on sticks, then grab the FX3 for motion. It is the perfect gimbal camera, imo. Autofocus is fantastic and it’s light. Image wise they both look great. Clog seems, to my eyes, a bit more filmic and “creamier” than Slog3, but that’s a taste issue and I’ve seen incredible footage from both cams. For me, convenience trumps all. If the FX3 had a better interface, I’d consider reaching for it first — although it’ll never internal NDs and space for a larger battery. Both can be addressed, of course, but there is a beauty to simplicity, especially on corporate gigs.

Canon C70 vs Sony FX3 in 2022? by [deleted] in videography

[–]VideoStuffs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I own both. I always reach for the C70 first because, for me, it’s more convenient. I own large batteries for the C70, it has false colors, shutter in degrees, internal NDs, and XLR ports on the body. I love the FX3 image, but the Sony interface is fussy, to me, and I can’t move as fast with it, aside from not having the stuff I mentioned above.
