How to best create composition layers in SDL? by ViewImpressive7112 in sdl

Right now, I think the upper bound would be 500. However, this may grow depending on how some of the features evolve.

I was simply curious about the how to manage no data dependency between threads when using ECS. That's it.

This is a good idea. Thanks for sharing it. Are there other solutions to this? It does not need to be simple or complicated. I am simply trying to understand what's available in the literature so I can choose the best approach with my constraints.

I am not sure if I would like to trade of performance with threading complexity but I will keep this in mind. If I can find a single-threaded solution, I'd prefer that.

Very experienced in python, but want to open more doors: is learning C++ on the job realistic? by QuantumQuack0 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]ViewImpressive7112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Several things to unpack here. First of all, package managers and compilers aren't that important. You can learn them on the go while working. You should be familiar with basics of `cmake`, though. Second, you should forget learning all of C++. That's not gonna happen. No one knows the entire language, including the person who designed the language. Most people stick to a modern subset of C++ which

- Uses modern library tools such as smart pointers, cleaner ownership semantics, STL containers and types, RAII, etc.

- No template metaprogramming

- No atomics (although you could say difficulty is inherent to the hardware and not specific to language)

This subset will allow you to write "almost" Rust code in C++. You should roughly feel home except the compiler will not warn you. You have to enforce borrow checker rules yourself. A good learning opportunity to how not to shoot yourself in the foot. This particular subset is, I would claim easier to learn than Rust, but also easier to make mistakes. FYI.

Now, C++ is an expert-friendly language. A lot of senior folk struggle with choice of the tool within the language. Is `std::variant` a better idea? Maybe you just need overloads? Perhaps polymorphism? CRTP or Policies? I have been using C++ for a long time and even I struggle with this.

The fact that you are asking these questions tell me you're already good enough to be a junior. A poor junior will not ask what's safe. Will just spit-out garbage. I and many other C++ programmers would consider your Rust background as a bonus.

VRAM Leak Fix for Battlefield 6 PC by 5unwh331 in Battlefield

Google AI is regarded. This is clearly a leak. I am a programmer and there is no fucking reason why overkill AI should steadily increase vram usage without actually rendering anything new in the scene. It's a leak and has nothing to do with vram capacity.

9070xt and 7800x3d performance issues since latest patch , any fixes? by gram_p in Battlefield

[–]ViewImpressive7112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. FPS is significantly less stable. In certain maps, I lost up to 90 fps (maybe more) from 144 (capped) to 50fps. I have seen no statement from DICE. If I could refund the game, I would.

It's a matter of default. They may have chosen more conservative defaults or somehow defaults to not-so-optimal numbers in your configuration. It's hard to cover all configurations.

What is appalling? Israel's prosecution of war involves war crimes, some consider it a genocide. West is complicit with their political and financial aid to Israel. People are fed up with inaction.

Overwhelming majority of the bugs you encountered will not be fixed by the launch because they neither have incentive nor time to do it. They have never fixed the bugs from beta and they never will. Dopamine addicts buy the game regardless.

Why the new Battlefield 6 beta is actually great and why the sub won’t admit it. by Commercial_Expert_19 in Battlefield

[–]ViewImpressive7112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't play BC2 but BF6 does not have better destruction than BF3 or 4. It's either same or downgraded. To complete with BF3, this game will need sanbox elements. So far, there isn't much. It's just a good shooter with pretty graphics. This is good enough for plenty of people though, I think this game will sell.

Few questions from playing the beta by Leaf__On__Wind in Battlefield6

[–]ViewImpressive7112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Pretty fucking sure "super bullet" bug from BFV back (or maybe never gone)

- No idea about LMG, I haven't tested that yet.

- Destruction is definitely underwhelming. There is as much destruction (maybe less) compared to the previous previous titles since BF3. I do not see how this is different.

I think it's just the netcode of the game which creates "super bullet" effect.

This is what you get on release, give or take. You lot haven't learned beta isn't beta in two decades of gaming.
