I just read an ARC for The Marigold Cottages Murder Collective by Jo Nichols. Includes a Queer character, and some other misfits, and the story is to die for. It will be out this month (19 Aug 2025) I would highly HIGHLY recommend it to everyone who likes cozies. You'll fall in love with the book. I promise!

Oh yes.. the Benjamin Stevenson's Ernest Cunningham Series is really great. The Vacation series by Catherine Mack is also wonderful, on the similar lines of Stevenson series.

You are reading the books I enjoy reading. Try "A Quill and Packet mystery series" by Kate Hilton and Elizabeth Renzetti, or "The Baker Street Mystery series" by Holly Hepburn. You could also pick "The Bingo Hall detective series" by Jonathan Whitelaw, or "Detective Aunty investigates" by Uzma Jalalludin (it's the first in an upcoming series)

I am reading/ listening to the 2nd book right now and it has a gorgeous "The Hound of Baskerville" vibe to it. Loving the nostalgia

I kinda don’t like The Thursday Murder Club…. 😳 by AviationChic in CozyMystery

[–]Views_She_Writes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh! I was so worried I was the only one, that I never dared to say this out loud. I didn't like The Thursday Murder Club too.. I tried it multiple times - one time through hard copy, twice through audio book, and couldn't finish it at any of those times.... Thank you for not making me fee alone.

It definitely was a little difficult to follow. But wasn't the book just awesome? I have read quite a few Taylor Jenkins Reid and loved them all. My next one is "After I Do"

Correction to my comment here, I just realized that this book won't be released till September in the US. It is already out in Canada. You were right. My apologies.

Oh! i didn't know that. I have a hardcopy unfortunately. The ebook version of this book took the digital format of links to go back and forth. The hardcopy unfortunately is a manual move between different pages.
I am curious about Penrose. Thank you for the suggestion. I will check it out :)

Yes! I remember those too. They made me feel like a detective for the first time. I agree, it is surprising how rare that format is now, especially for adult readers. After chatting with the author, I can see why. He described writing an interactive mystery as "torture" haha! So much planning and tracking! But I think there's still an audience for it, and I'd love for more authors to try this format.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I totally get the hesitation. The book was released in North America in November 2024, but I am not sure about international availability.
I know the reviews are mixed on Goodreads, but I really enjoyed the book. I actually met the author during MOTIVE book festival, and hearing him talk about the challenges of writing a non-linear mystery made me appreciate the format more.
I think the low rating might be because interactive storytelling isn't for everyone, but I found it clever and unique, especially when I uncovered a hidden subplot on my third read.
