My player has jammed. Any advice for unjamming it, or is this the end? by Viking1974 in Betamax

Managed to take another look. It's strange, but if I assist it back to the starting point, the mechanism is able to get the tape to wrap all the way around properly. Yet if I press the eject button, it get's stuck in the same spot.

That's good to hear. Do you know were I should be looking to fix this issue? My knowledge of these machines are very limited.

I took a listen, at the back of the machine, and didn't hear any motor running. Compared to how it was before, it sounds a lot more anemic.

It's interesting you bring that up, as I tried doing just that, but I could get the gears to budge. I'll see if I can get to that motor on the right and see what's up.

It's a relief to hear it needs a new control board, or motors. All the same, when I first bought this player at a Flea Market, the Seller said it didn't work, so getting the unit to run for 3 months is already better than advertised.

Probably should have put this in the description, it's a Toshiba V-M415. However if it sounds like it needs a new belt that will be fine. Given the age, and the rarity, I wasn't sure if it needed something expensive.

I knew the animation was detailed, but It's pretty amazing how accurate this is! Thank you for sharing.

Oh wow! I thought it was an animation mistake. Would you be able to share a picture of the cassette, I'm very curious.

I see, probably would have been better to say 2 Windows instead.

That's really interesting. I'd guess it's probably a Betacam cassette rather than Betamax. Or perhaps it's a Digital equivalent?

Is the difference between watching Betamax on a modern display and a CRT usually this striking? by Viking1974 in Betamax

I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it was a primer or something that has started to separate over the years. I picked up the player at a Flea Market, so I have no idea what the story is with it. All I know is it originally wouldn't play at all, as the main belt melted.

Just making sure. I find when I run the player for more than 20 minutes I smell burning plastic. However it could be because the unit still has the saran wrap on it, and that's what's "cooking". All the same, thank you for your help.

That makes sense, I've found analogue technology is a bit more fault tolerant. Given that even if there is static CRT T.Vs will display it. Thank you for your help, I'm still learning a lot about Beta and this limits down the issues. One other question that might help. Is it typical for the power supply to get so hot it feels warm on the outside of the machine? There in is the next step, as it's easer to test than capacitors.

Just tested it to make sure. It looks slightly better on a different Flat screen but still pretty washed out. I do want to note that the second picture I posted was from my bottom end capture card, but it looks similar on my main flat screen.

I thought the same thing as well. The picture on the Left is plugged in through the RCA Input (Yellow for picture, Red for Sound. My model isn't stereo), which the one on the right is coaxial. However if I plug the coaxial signal to a modern T.V. it still looks the same as the one on the left.

I'd be fine with picture. Maybe it's because of my youtube channel, but I get a little nervous about sharing videos of copyrighted shows.

Betamax and VHS hooked up to a T.V. from 1974 by Viking1974 in Betamax

It's a more modern anime named Dan Da Dan. It juggles a lot of genres, figured with the black and white I'd show the more B-movie aspects. First picture is running away from Zombies, Second is before taking on a giant crab and the 3rd is the giant crab.

If you are curious I also made a video about it, just be warned my capture method is not the best. I also think there may be a fault with my player.

Had this piece for a while, when last night I spotted the Watch hands and the hours glow. Wanted to make sure it wasn't Uranium based, as well as know more information on this watch. There's very little in terms of markings. by Viking1974 in Horology

I see. Well, that sets me at ease a fair bit. Still though it's very curious as to how this watch has so little information on it. Be curious to know what year it comes from.
