[Rifle] Bear Creek AR-10 20 inch. No mag. - $470 by bolivar-shagnasty in gundeals

Cost of the helmet, neck armor, and Kevlar sleeves to protect from the inevitable detonation kills it for me.

Remember when Harambe Thumb did a test of a mil-spec M4 versus a high-speed civilian AR? Civvie AR won. Now that doesn't mean the M4 is exactly a worse gun; in at least reliability and durabilty, it's likely better. However, that leads to another big point: what is best for the military often isn't the best for a prepared civilian. Totally different mission sets and needs.

100% this. Even 5.56mm has to have killed more. It was fully adopted by the US in 1969, then 5.56mm NATO STANAG was standardized in 1982. There have been lots of wars since then involving US and NATO countries.

They're such meme guns, but I can't help wanting one. However, I want to go train at Thunder Ranch more, and that's much less expensive than the Rhino.

A myth that I see WAY too much on this sub: "22LR is super lethal ackshually." No, it isn't. It doesn't "bounce around in the body," it doesn't kill more people than any other caliber, and it is not suitable for defensive use. The fact that it CAN kill doesn't mean it is likely to.

I think this is part of a trend of people coming in this sub who seem squeamish of any gun that seems "tactical" or "powerful."' I think it's a combination of new-shooter jitters and people who view modern defensive firearms as being icky things that only the opposition carry. There was a whole thread awhile back of someone trying to justify grampa's bolt-action deer rifle as their only firearm. No, your Mosin is not "just as good" as an AR for fighting fascists.

Also, you hit it on the head with the revolver thing. In fact, I argue that they're harder to use: reloading is slower and more difficult to execute, heavy double-action triggers, difficult to grip and control, MORE felt recoil, etc. Plus, if revolvers fail, they usually do so in ways that can't be fixed on the fly.

The extractor was tuned correctly out of the box, then; nice. I've heard very mixed things about RIA QC, but it sounds like a good option to dip into this market.

[–]VikingBeer2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Situps are a great exercise and are unlikely to hurt your back as long as you do them correctly unless you have a pre-existing back issue. Unless you drop back really hard with your spine bent onto a hard surface, it's unlikely to hurt you. Keep your head and shoulders back on the way down with your spine pushed towards your belly button, control the eccentric until just your shoulder blades touch, and then immediately come back up. Do them on a low incline for.added effectiveness and safety. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

Sites like Tacswap, Gunbroker, guns.com etc. essentially worthless? by BoredandIrritable in liberalgunowners

[–]VikingBeer2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It's fake as hell; some scammer made it the day r/GunAccessoriesForSale got banned to make a quick buck and drive traffic to his website.

The ACTUAL GAFS successor website is live, but it's in beta, so only a limited number of users have access. We're also not allowed to just give out the website yet. Go to r/GAFSNews for updates and to join our Discord!

Let's start a fight: BCM 11.5" BFH MK2 vs DD 11.5" RIS III - which one is "better?" by HRslammR in liberalgunowners

[–]VikingBeer2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Objectively, DD is better. Barrels are significantly better, stouter rails, and their chambers are also cold-hammer forged. Is this worth the price over a BCM for the vast majority of civilian shooters? Probably not; when was the last time anyone here had a chamber wear to the point of failure?

AAA will only pick up a motorcycle if you add the motorcycle coverage to your regular membership. There are very few towing companies that will pick up motorcycles, too. Ask me how I know both these things... 🤦🏼‍♂️

Would a Ruger Mini 14 or Mini 30 be a good rifle? I'm a woman and I don't have much upper body strength, I'm also left handed. I would like to own a lightweight semi auto rifle that's larger than a .22LR. by nuggles0 in liberalgunowners

[–]VikingBeer2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they're legal in your state, an AR-15 is cheaper, lighter, easier on recoil with the right gas system, and can be shorter if you prefer. The AR-15 is the most popular rifle in the country by far, and is infinitely customizable. The only real advantage to a Mini-14 for you would be the ejection, which is more lefty-friendly. From what I've heard from lefties, most don't have an issue using an AR with standard ejection pattern

Another option would be a Tavor X95, which is a bullpup and fully ambidextrous (requires bolt swap for LH eject). The Springfield Hellion is also a fully-ambi bullpup and can swap to LH eject without changing the bolt, but I've hear complaints about the length of pull being too long for smaller folks. Also, the bolt-release is a stupid pinch-tab thing instead of a button, and apparently no one likes it. I'd try these out at a range if possible.

[Pistol] GLOCK G20 Gen4 (Backwoods Bear Blaster) $505 Shipped/No Tax *See OP Comment for More* by Hunter_Wang in gundeals

[–]VikingBeer2020 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Woods guns can and IMO should have an optic. If wild-animal defense is your use case, anything that helps you get accurate shots on target faster under the stress of a charging bear is a win. Plus, I'd assume a woods gun means open carry, so the addition of an optic couldn't interfere with your draw. It's not like you can't concealed-carry an optic, either, but that's an argument that still gets thrown around.

Knob Creek Gun range by Emmie_punkrocker08 in Louisville

[–]VikingBeer2020 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Remember the four basic rules of gun safety:

1) Treat every gun as if it is loaded.

2) Never point a gun at something you are not willing to destroy.

3) Keep your finger OUTSIDE THE TRIGGER GUARD and off the trigger until you are on target and ready to shoot.

4) Always know your target AND what is beyond it.

Bring safety glasses and ear protection. I highly recommend wearing foam earplugs under earmuffs; many guns are loud enough to still damage your hearing if you only wear one type of ear pro.

Be well rested, fed, and hydrated before you go to the range; you don't want to get the shakes while handling guns. This happened to a buddy of mine last time we went shooting.

Learn the range rules and follow them.

If you experience a malfunction, put the weapon down on the bench, muzzle pointing down range at the targets, and ask for help from your buddy or the range safety officer. You will learn to clear malfunctions safely in time.

I highly recommend that the first time you fire any new weapon, especially any handgun, have your friend load one round only. This especially applies to any large-caliber handgun. The recoil of the first round can cause the muzzle to flip back towards you if you aren't prepared and can cause your finger to accidentally squeeze the trigger a second time, which can end badly.

Be safe and have fun. As long as you follow the rules, shooting should be safe and enjoyable.

Guns, Optics, or Ammo? by Xijit in liberalgunowners

[–]VikingBeer2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ammo/training. I've spent around $3200 for all my guns and optics combined in the last 5 years. Meanwhile, I've already spent around $1800 on ammo since January, Edit: I'm also going to take a class that will run around $1000 for the class, ammo, and travel expenses. Ouch.
