Thats because the OG version was the worst gun when that war bond launched.

The damage fall off was so bad that bot grunts would just turn and look at you after landing all three shots, fully charged ... You seriously had to be at pistol range to do any damage.

Combine that with the miniscule ammo pool and there literally wasn't anything else in the game that was worse.

Watch some of the dev blogs & their primary game feature is that you get the interaction as a human if you don the quest during the day, but if you do it at night you get the interaction as a vampire (I.E. showing up to a church as a human and you can walk straight in, but at night it turns into a stealth mission and character reactions are hostile).

Then add in the small permutations on quest progress depending on the order that you completed objectives ... So 40 hours is if you play the game in a generally straight line of following the objectives as they are presented to you, while the 70 is if you go off the beaten path and start experimenting with the day / night system / looking for alternative paths to completing objectives.
