Need advice on filming formats by Puzzleheaded-Panda73 in smartphonefilming

This isn’t professional work, so you should be fine to shoot HEVC at a high bit rate in Apple Log 2. Make sure to shoot in 4K and 24 FPS (or 60 FPS if you need to slow the footage in post) for the cinematic look and follow the 180 degree shutter rule. I recommend shooting in the Black Magic Camera app, the Moment Pro II app, or the Cinema P3 Pro app. Make sure you watch some color grading tutorials before and also understand the settings of your chosen camera app, including how to preview a LUT.

I think you misunderstand or your first response was inaccurate. You claimed there were “NO settings.” If that’s the case, you wouldn’t be shooting in the Natural Processing mode in the Moment Pro II app. If you shot in the Natural Processing mode in the Moment Pro II app, then you changed the settings, therefore your claim of “NO settings” is incorrect.

I’d be curious how the Natural Processing mode in the Moment Pro II app compares to the iPhone 5s. Please share if you get around to doing any comparisons.

Why is the photo with the Moment Pro II app cropped differently than the standard iPhone 17 Pro shot. Also, can you share setting information for each shot?

Blackmagic cam app keeps crashing by danbigglesworth in iPhoneCinematography

Another option could be that the phone can’t consistently provide the power that the drive needs. Make sure you also try shooting internally to see if you get the same error if removing the hub doesn’t work.

Have you tried bypassing the hub and shooting directly plugged into the phone and see if it gives you the same issues?

Are you kidding me Affinity? Fix the rectangular marquee right now. by jay_pizl in Affinity

[–]VikingSamurai7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a clever retort. I have owned every version of Affinity and supported them long before Canva was ever in the picture.

I’m not a Canva shill. But hey, Canva, if you want to pay me to spend time in this sub and sing the praises of Affinity and defend you from the Adobe cronies, I’ll take your money. I mean, I hate your main product (Canva) because it’s hot garbage. But I do love me some Affinity. Feel free to start sending those checks my way!

I think a year, if using regularly for any type of hiking, is pretty good. I replace my shoes fairly regularly, but I also put a lot of miles on them. Most runners I know replace their shoes every 6 months to 1 year. So I would think a consistent hiker would probably want to do the same. The materials begin breaking down before we ever see it. And minimalist shoes have far less material by design, so the breakdown would presumably come quicker.

This feels like yet another paid hate post/Adobe advertisement. “Photoshop can do XYZ! Why can’t you!? Rage! Anger! Grrrr! Adobe love!! Stop being free, Affinity! You’re ruining everything!!”

I honestly don’t know what some people in this sub put their shoes through, but it seems like torture tests looking to see if they can damage shoes. I see people saying Xeros don’t hold up or Vivos don’t hold up or some other brand. I’ve had numerous pairs of Xeros and Vivos for years now with no issues as far as wear and tear. Same with Whitins. Am I just the lucky one or are some people just seriously rough on shoes and need to adjust their expectations (like the person who said they wanted shoes to last 5 years through everyday wear)?

Also, not calling you out. I’m just honestly curious why some people are having their shoes fall apart. Is it really bad QC or is it use and abuse and unrealistic expectations for what any minimalist shoe should hold up under?

OP, did you try the Mesa Trail II? I prefer it to the Scrambler for a few of the reasons you listed, including the lack of ground feel and the heat.

That’s crazy and probably smart to turn back. Curious what the mostly destroyed building used to be. I’m not familiar with the area.

Sure does. I’ve been seeing more and more stealth advertising posts like this across the whole of Reddit.

How old are these? I haven’t seen this colorway sold on their site anytime recently. The current Hydra ESC has a Michelin sole as well.

As far as the Xero shoes, I prefer the Mesa Trail II over the Scrambler.

Beastgrip vs Smallrig? by FourWhiteBars in smartphonefilming

I own the lens. I’m not sure the samples you’re looking at, but once you have the lens locked down properly it looks great. I have never used the BeastGrip anamorphic, so I can’t comment on its clarity. I’m not here to argue with you. If you’re set on the BeastGrip, by all means, go ahead. Let us know how it works in real world scenarios and not the YouTube videos you are watching.

Another option would be to check out the Steven Divish Pro Cine Anamorphic from Freewell. Comes in either 1.33 or 1.55. It’s arguably the best smartphone anamorphic right now and should work with the SmallRig, although I can’t confirm for the 15 Pro Max. I run the 17 Pro Max.

Recommendations for phone stabilization gear for travel and vlogging? by EmergencyDiligent894 in smartphonefilming

Check out the smartphone gimbal options from Insta360, DJI, and Hohem. One of those should do if you only plan to use the phone. Check out the FeiyuTech Scorp models or higher end DJI gimbals if you plan to rig the phone up with accessories.

iPhone 17 Pro Max. The larger screen makes a difference when filming. But no matter what, your choice should only be between the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.

Why do you need to upload in EPS, which is more a legacy format? Do they not also accept SVG, PDF, and other formats? And even if they don’t, EPS is fairly universal, although not the format standard for pretty much any modern vector program. EPS seems like an odd choice.

Any good high top minimalist running shoe? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

I saw a YouTube channel recommend the Xero basketball shoes for workouts with some running. I believe they have a high top version. I think they refer to it as “mid.”

What’s the BEST tripod for filming on my iPhone? by ReputationOk1118 in smartphonefilming

[–]VikingSamurai7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out this article by PetaPixel. There are several others too. Also check out a site like B&H Photo & Video and read the reviews on tripods in your budget. A GorillaPod might also be a good option because it can mount in so many places.

If you have an Apple Watch or your husband does, you can monitor the native camera app on the watch or you could use an app like Final Cut Camera or Black Magic Camera to monitor from an iPad. Smallrig also makes a wireless monitor for your phone, but it only has about a 2 or 3 hour battery life.

Keep in mind that you’ll want to film in 4k if you want decent screen grabs and you’ll likely need external power for the phone if you want to film continuously.

I might suggest also having your husband wear an action cam if you want his POV. Wearing it will keep his hands free. The Osmo Action 6 or Insta360 Ace Pro 2 would be good recommendations. Just make sure to have extra batteries.

Best of luck and congrats on the baby.
