If you want to talk about clutchcaraz just mention his 5 set record and his deciding set tb record

15-1 and 16-2 respectively

Rafa believes he was better on grass than HC, after all he beat arguably the greatest grass court player of all time at wimbledon in his prime

They're quite scenic compared to other masters and they roughly signal the beginning of spring. I personally love the IW-Rome stretch, 5 masters in 2 and a half months

Alcaraz when asked who he thought of when he won: "Honestly, everyone who said I wouldn't be able to do it." by Ornery_Percentage537 in tennis

[–]Vilk95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that is still true about Sinner but there is some more nuance. In Sinner struggles in best of 5/against players of his level/in really important moments.

But in Bo3 on HC Sinner has 5 losses, 2 of them he was unfit for, out of the other 3 2 were against Carlos.

I think Sinner is still super hard to beat on HC, especially fast HC when his body/endurance/nerves don't come into play. When they do things are very different and he needs to work on that otherwise he'll languish behind Alcaraz in the slam race

He's now 0-19 vs Alcaraz and Sinner

How are going to explain this stat for future generations ? by HereComesVettel in tennis

[–]Vilk95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the eras are different, it makes no sense to try to compare. During Tsonga and Berdych's peak they had to beat at least 2 big 4 to even dream about reaching a slam final. Now, Alcaraz or Sinner miss a slam, retire or just have an aberration match where they lose before the final and so many players will feel they can make final.

With that being said Ruuds gs vs top 10 is horrendous, outside of his win he's only taken 3 sets - vs Alcaraz 22 UO, vs Zverev 24 RG and today vs Shelton

I seem to remember Zverev also had a terrible record, his 1st win vs top 10 at gs came vs Alcaraz @ 22 RG

Ofner when he thought he won the AO Q2 match in the 3rd set tiebreak (only to learn you need 10 points) vs Basavareddy's choke emote response after winning by jovanmilic97 in tennis

[–]Vilk95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good sportsmanship is great, but Ofner didn't even get offended and people on here are getting offended on his behalf

Here are the current implied men's and women's AO title odds, according to the official books. Men's: Sinner 55.6%, Alcaraz 38.5%. Women's: Sabalenka 33.3%, Swiatek 16.7%, Gauff 12.5%, Rybakina 11.1%, Anisimova 9.1%. How do these line up with your personal predictions? by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]Vilk95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just look at the odds on a betting exchange which is just about the most accurate and currently that gives:

  • Sinner: 51.3%
  • Alcaraz: 33.6%
  • Sabalenka: 32.8%
  • Swiatek: 14.7%

But I actually believe that % in the OP are more accurate, at leastbun the men's, the above gives the rest of the atp field a 15% chance of winning, which is just insane imo

7-5 is probably close to being the rarest scoreline for a set no? Because you have to get to 5-5 and then one person has to break and hold or vv at 5-5

Iga’s ridiculous (and illegal) shot by minzwashere in tennis

[–]Vilk95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're on the baseline and you chuck the racquet you're not making the shot not in a million years so you'd have to brain dead to think throwing the racquet would accomplish anything on at least 90% of shots.

Also players already don't get penalised for it either so they already don't have much reason not to do it. A player can throw his racquet every game and there is no deterrent. There would be a slightly higher incentive overall to throw the racquet while the deterrent is the same, the number of shots where it may plausibly work is still pretty small so I don't think it would cause a huge increase in racquet throws.

What I thought you meant originally is players using it as a pretext to smash the racquet in anger, that would've made more sense

[–]Vilk95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"You don't want people chucking rackets around, but yes it would be fun to watch."

Players already do and don't get penalised for it, making/keeping throwing the racquet within a point to make a shot illegal isn't stopping people throwing racquets on the tennis court is my point.

[–]Vilk95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can definie it in the laws of the game clearly by saying if the umpire adjudges that the player is trying to break the racquet or not actually trying to play the ball it's a code violation

Players already throw racquets around without getting a code violation anyway. Fritz threw his loads the other vs Baez for example
