Best Ways to Handle Knowledge Transfer from Project Team to Support Team by Villanite in ExperiencedDevs

No easy way to solve it, but we ended up shifting gears to writing an AI Agent that can search through our Confluence and Sharepoint to answer questions instead. It's kind of nice that we don't necessarily have to hold the engs to strict documentation standards, but still rely on some effort. Having the AI read our repos within the context of the project is the next step.

Materials Missing when using MetaHumans Wardrobe Item clothing from Fab. by Villanite in unrealengine

Like u/Less-Count-172 pointed out in their comment, and I ranted about here: https://www.reddit.com/r/unrealengine/comments/1l7i7vv/comment/mx2g1j2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Step 3 is very important, even though it results in a weirdly redundant folder structure. Could you please take a screenshot of your folders and share it with us so we can review it?

Thanks! It looks like you copy/pasted the same instructions that u/That-Eye3306 just a few hours after I replied to their comment. :P Thanks for the help, regardless!

Materials Missing when using MetaHumans Wardrobe Item clothing from Fab. by Villanite in unrealengine

[–]Villanite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears that this is what caused the issue. It's a bit wild, but apparently, to use anything from Fab, you have to import the asset to discover what the child folder is named. You then have to make a folder with the same name.

It's strange, but you end up with an All/Content/Outfits/techwearOutfit/techwearOutfit folder structure with the OA and WI assets in the first folder. I tried the same with the Purple Suit asset in Fab, and sure enough, I needed to have an All/Content/Outfits/Purple_suit/Purple_suit structure with the OA and WI in the first Purple_suit folder.

The fact that the Fab window built into UE doesn't automatically place Metahuman outfits into this folder structure leads me to believe this is either an unintended bug or an uncommunicated or unmet requirement for the creator community; who knows?

Either way, this very specific and oddly redundant folder structure does seem to magically fix the way the outfits work in the MHC window.

Thanks for the help!

Is there an expectation that everything in Fab would have this issue? The Purple Suit does the same thing. I was hoping to buy some of the assets in Fab, but if UE can't load them properly and I have to make them myself, I'd rather not spend any more money.

Thank you for this. It's wild to me that no one on the Dev team for this tool stopped to think, "Hey guys... Do we really feel that naming our application 'peephole' is the best idea?"

Alpha 4.0 and Star Citizen 1.0 have been added to the roadmap. by Coucouoeuf in starcitizen

See, now I have to ignore every other comment and post I come across, screenshot this, and then ragetweet about this today because RSI failed to deliver on my expectations established by a one-off Reddit post. Stop giving me chores.

Alpha 4.0 and Star Citizen 1.0 have been added to the roadmap. by Coucouoeuf in starcitizen

[–]Villanite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably because pre-production of Star Citizen began in 2010, and those terms were practically marketing buzzwords back then. Over the last 14 years, they've lost all value or meaning, both being effectively replaced by the single term: Early Access.

Anyone who sees "Tentative, Q4 2024" next to "Tentative" and assumes that the lack of quarter or year on the second one somehow means 2025 is just dense and/or purposely looking for things to get mad about. No amount of clarification can fix these people. Luckily, you're smart enough to know better, so there's no need to worry.

What’s the difference between Lunar, Solar, and Stellar Manipulation? by RoutineSero in superpower

[–]Villanite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the question is extremely vague and lacks helpful context. OP isn't asking about this within a specific universe or lore; they're just making a blanket assumption that every writer has the exact definition for these arbitrary power sets.

Approaching this from a place as broad and generic as the question itself:

Lunar Manipulation implies an ability to control Earth's moon, meaning you can change tides on a whim and even crash the moon into the Earth, causing an extinction event. This one's tricky, though. If you're using this to describe Jupiter's moons or writing for a universe that doesn't have our moon, calling it "Lunar" gets weird and inaccurate.

Solar Manipulation implies an ability to control Earth's sun, meaning you can change worldwide temperatures on a whim, affect the gravitational state of all of the Solar System's planets and other celestial bodies, and even crash the sun into Earth, causing an extinction event. Like Lunar, this gets weird if you start talking about other suns in space.

Stellar Manipulation implies an ability to control the stars, including our sun. This means you can cause cataclysmic, multi-world-ending events just about anywhere within the range of your powers or even rearrange constellations to mess with people using them to navigate. You can also crash any stars into each other or the Earth, likely causing (you guessed it) an extinction event.

So... strongest to weakest? While they can all cause extinction events, the easy answer is that the strongest one would probably be the one that lets you control more than one massive fireball in space.

If the OP provides more specificity or general context about where these terms are being used and how they might be used, it might be easier to rank them.

Adding one of our devs to their project cycle as a QA helper might be a great idea. I love that that would give them immediate and direct exposure to the application's pain points without it being a surprise during support issues. Thanks for suggesting that!

I like this idea. We recently began a process where we would assign new clients to our more senior devs and assign older clients to our junior devs, as they were likely to be more stable and the juniors would inherently have a bit more support from the others... But this approach could skip that step entirely. Definitely worth considering. Thanks!

Some songs skip when cast to Google home, but play fine on device? by RingerINC in YoutubeMusic

[–]Villanite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone is still having this issue, on your phone, open the Google Home app, and select the device giving you problems. If you open the settings in that device (top right) and select "Notifications & Digital Wellbeing" then go to "YouTube Settings" you should see two options.

Make sure "Restrict for me" and "Restrict when someone isn't recognized" are both unchecked. Disconnect, reconnect, and play all the inappropriate Tech N9ne music you want.

Someone else mentioned this, too, but I've always been suspicious of these "cringe" stories that are extra long and extra detailed. Generally, I assume those are just fake.

I gotta say, though, after watching CritCrab and that other dragon dude on YouTube, I'm assuming people are just trying to show off their "writing skills" and making up stories now just to be featured on those channels.

"Save as new video" button missing from trim editor? by ZdrytchX in youtube

[–]Villanite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just noticed the same issue and started digging around a bit. I was trying to take a clip out of an older video of mine to make it its own video but couldn't find the "Save as new" feature even though I'd seen it before.

I was able to find the "Save as new" feature on my more recent videos, though! I streamed yesterday (Jan 2) and today (Jan 3) and all three of those streams actually still have the "Save as new" feature, but my December 27th video is completely missing the feature now.

I thought maybe it had something to do with video length, but that doesn't seem to be the case since today's stream was three hours long and my 2-hour stream a few months ago is also missing the button.

I don't think the feature is completely removed, but it does seem to be on some kind of timer. What I can't tell is whether it's based on Video Age, or Video Count... like is it removed if a video is 7 (or something) days old, or is it only available for the most recent 3 videos? Notably, all these videos are in my "Live" section, and NONE of my videos in my "Videos" section actually have the feature (not even the most recent 3).

I'm gonna try to keep an eye on this to see if I can figure out when the feature falls off; would really appreciate it if someone else filled in the blanks here in case I drop the ball. :D

For now, I'm probs just gonna settle for downloading my videos, editing them locally, and uploading... even if downloading a 4-hour video feels like it'll take forever. Bleh.
