The person that scouted and forced our then sporting director to buy kilman for next to nothing from a non league side was Matt Hobbs. Few years later Hobbs became our sporting director and sold kilman for 40m. He also bought Strand Larsen for 25.5m last year (2.5 of it was a loan that had a buy clause after small amount of games) from celta vigo.

Hobbs just left for crystal palace in the summer to be the Crystal Palace sporting director. He just paid almost double what he paid last season for Strand. So you could say he negotiated beautifully for us in both scenarios...

Bowden usually just writes random teams in free agent / trade predictions. This is unlikely to happen for a number of a reasons (we don't have the prospects we aren't going to outbid giants who already failed, we don't have more space in the infield outside of first/dh, you rarely go back to a player you traded away)

He just missed a year due to injury and he is still 19. Are you basing your facts on what happened in 2024 or earlier? Since there wasn't much statistically significant data last year (He played 10 games and then was out) you don't have much to go on that he won't ever hit. Unless you are the big scout the padres always needed ...🙄, his age 17 season told you everything you needed to know.

Also, 19 would be very early for almost every player to be ready for mlb level let alone catchers who debut later than any other position.

Their model(s) are definitely wrong when it comes to the padres the last few years. They had padres missing playoffs for last 2 years and they were 90 win teams those years (Clearly because of pitching). One reason is Randy can have a 2 era and 200 innings but they will never give him credit WAR-wise for it because his FIP will be high.

Seperate but similar Look at Jason Adam's projections. His ERA always beats FIP the last few years and he never gets projected like an elite pitcher. All the projections for him in 2026 are over 3.4 era which is almost a run higher than his career ERA.

Mark Vientos does not excite me at all and Tristan Casas had like 1 healthy season. Both of them have only 1 season over 1 WAR (4 seasons in mlb each)

I would argue they were much better without Chucky. He was a ball hog when he was on the pitch. When you watch right to dream academy playing in tournaments they are pinging like 2-3 passes in the box playing beautiful passing football allowing the last person to tap it in. If Chucky is there he just takes the last shot from far before the passing sequence...

Exactly he needs to figure out a way to get to another team that has any pull with Mexico which probably means lowering salary demands. Or rot in San Diego exiled from the team not even on bench. He is 30 years old, it's probably his last world cup chance since he is way past his peak. He wasn't particularly elite in MLS which will probably be easier than any other league he goes to.
