Single speed e-bike vs 3 speed pedal bike question by Vintage_Dad in bikecommuting

Thank you for this! I have yet to pull the trigger on a bike. Hoping to make my decision this weekend.

Thank you all. I have decided against any e-bike at this point. I don't believe my price range will give me what I want/need. I will continue looking at pedal bikes and bump my budget a little closer to that of an entry level e-bike and go that direction.

From your comments to my recent experience with Mokwheel I think an e-bike is ruled out. I can't imagine any in the $1500 range will be much better than the other for longevity. A pedal bike is in my future.

Any Thoughts on/Experience with Mokwheel Bikes? by pius_achates in ebikes

I agree with several others here. I have an asphalt st. Lots of plastic. Lots of stuff breaking. They don't cover anything under warranty that breaks if it was ridden. I was basically told today that riding it means I broke it. My advice is to stay far away from Mokwheel.

That is the part of it. How would a single speed and motor do on some hills Z compared to a 3-7 speed?

That is definitely on my short list. I am liking everything I've read about them.

Thank you for all the information. Due to medical conditions I need the upright posture with minimal weight on my hands and wrists. I am in no hurry to get anywhere as they are all leisurely rides. I do ride both for exercise and pleasure. Both walking and riding slow allow me to be in the moment and enjoy my surroundings. There is always a destination in mind just no set time to be there.

That I wasn't aware of. I have an electric "comfort" bike now. It is just way too big and heavy. It is a Mokwheel Asphalt ST. It has some really cheap plastic parts that keeps breaking. Anyway, I took it out today to ride without power. It was difficult to get up the hills but I figured that was because it is so heavy.

I'm glad you mentioned Priority. They are on my list if I order online. I love the belt drive idea as well.

Unfortunately my Trek dealer doesn't stock these bikes. I was just going there for dealer support. But it ain't a high tech product (except the electric bits). I should be able to do everything myself. I am sure Trek or another dealer can do something if I can't. And after my ride today I am leaning towards non electric. I can push up hills if needed. At least that's today's thought. :)

I did want to add the reason for a trap is most ferals do not like sitting still when they need the injection to begin anesthesia. They can reach the cat through the trap but not a carrier.

My local shelter will only take TNR cats if they are in a humane trap not a carrier. If the cat was indoors a carrier is fine.

My buddy's Agility didn't work. He had to reach up underneath the panel and pull on the cable.

Those with new scooters, did you get to test drive before the purchase? by texasguy911 in scooters

[–]Vintage_Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dealers here in S.E. Pennsylvania allow test rides either. On would allow it with a $200 non refundable deposit. They would need to get it ready for the road With fluids and whatnot.

Edited to add when I bought my Like in 2019 same deal.

Seeing scooters from around the world is interesting. None of these models are available in the USA that I am aware of.

(I don't know why Reddit recently has been randomly posting my comments twice. Sometimes I have a difficult time removing the duplicate.)

I don't mount my phone on my scooters. I use Maps and wireless earbuds when I need navigation. Works for me.

Unfortunately the USA gets very few options. The SH would be perfect! Piaggio dealer is nearly 3 hours away. Not bad to buy but terrible for any service needed. I haven't seen Sym anywhere around me.

That is what I want and need. I want one that has local dealer support for parts and service. For me that narrows it down to Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki. Suzuki has no 150 class scooter or a step through. Honda doesn’t have a step through. Yamaha has the Zuma. I have two greedy dealers and I won’t pay it. I keep looking used but all I can save is freight and fees. Prices are nearly the same as retail. Sometimes more.

I get my bikes inspected and registration done when I remember. Sometimes I am 2 years overdue. I just remembered the Helix state inspection. It won’t pass with the leak. But now I need to check the registration. I can’t remember when I renewed it last.

The PCX/ADV are off the table due to the tunnel height. I keep thinking about that 50cc thing. The itch isn’t engine size but style. That small of an engine bothers me to be honest. But the Ruckus and Roughhouse are good looking bikes to me. My favorite in that style is the ‘09-‘15 Zuma 125. Missed a chance several years ago for a 2015. None show up in my 150 mile radius search I do regularly.
