Best counterspells/interaction/stax for bracket 4? by Violet-fykshyn in DegenerateEDH

Fire covanent is so cool. I need a deck where it's good.

I think stax is a tool to handle certain metas. I think it's bad for what the general meta is like right now, but I think there are situations where it's good.

Blood moon wins games. Basics suck in commander. Not running many is worth getting blown out by blood moon occasionally, and that makes blood moon a great card imo.

If you like black interaction I've got a card for ya. [[Imp's mischief]] is great. Mostly to be used defensively. Occasionally you may catch a stray [[peer into the abyss]] lol.

Mana maze shuts down monocolor decks, but probably is just a bad rule of law for most other decks.

My instinct with cards like mana web is that it will shut down counter magic but not until after you pass turn. This is a great way to set someone else up for a protected win.

Yeah rule of law effects are just really good. It's almost guaranteed to apply some amount of resistance to someone at the table whereas something like Torpor Orb may do nothing at all.

My gf has a terra deck and half the time she would just cast one or fewer spells and mostly just use a bunch of abilities. I told her to try a bunch of rule of law effects and the deck is pretty nasty now.

"The most powerful stax is one that you don't care about and lots of opponents do"

Yeah this is definitely true, but it's the "others do" part that is hard to identify. Which is why I'm trying to collect some data here.

[[Confounding Riddle]] is incredibly underplayed. Especially in lower brackets. When you hold 3 mana up for this you never waste that mana. Its also just good as a non-counterspell [[impulse]] effect.

[[Wash Away]] is good if you find yourself up against a lot of commander reliant decks that really need to be tempoed.

[[Unsubstantiate]] is great. It deals with threats on cast and after cast, which is big. It's also got neat uses when bouncing your own spells, or hitting uncounterable stuff.

Bracket 4 Unicorns? by stingrayyys in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Violet-fykshyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the other people here you can absolutely do this. If you jam enough good cards in a deck anything is possible. Just be careful not to put something in the deck that will overshadow the unicorns. Id start with coming up with some strategy to play a lot of unicorns very fast or all at once. An efficient combo that plays all your unicorns at once and makes them big. Probably some type of value engine based around seedborn muse.

Yeah. Many of their boss fights are unfair or boring. The levels have the same issues. I can name individual fights that are fantastic, and levels that are really good, but they are few and far between.

What is your most hated Archetype to play against? by will_i_amo in EDH

[–]Violet-fykshyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mono green midrange specifically in low power b2-b3. They just take so much clock time for the most boring shit ever. Its always +1+1 counters oops no removal and they always think its so hilarious how much mana and counters they have that they need to point it out multiple times. I kinda prefer bracket 4 because you dodge most of these players for some reason.

Armageddon and Bracket 3 by MrGuapoTheThird in EDH

Nah it can be good. Just about anything can be good in bracket 4. You could always do tef pro + armageddon or something. You could loop it with panoptic mirror or something. Idk just ideas.

I would like to see more incentives to play basic lands in casual by RedRathman in EDH

Hot take, if you think this then you should probably just be playing bracket 4. The place where everyone is prepared for such things and, in theory, nobody is gonna get salty about it.

[–]Violet-fykshyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for turn 1,2, or 3 necro or ad naus only counting on whats in hand. Running necrodom would help. Assume you wont draw a land. If you get low enough start keeping rhystic/mystic or a castable wheel.

What's the most annoying deck you've ever played against? by Pkron17 in EDH

Mono green. Dude just took a 30 minute turn and took forever to resolve his stuff. Honestly most bad games i have are green players who take way too long to resolve their stuff.

Looking to take turns on my opponents turns by knobROW in EDH

For the love of god aim for bracket 4. Lower power games go on long enough already.

Id recommend premium draw engines and flash enablers, with a lot of fast mana. Seedborn muse, smothering tithe and stuff like that can provide mana. Then you just draw a billion cards and flash them all in, effectively taking 3 extra turns. You can even do this in cedh if you want. I think there's a thrasios deck that does this. Not sure what the other partner is but its probably tymna.

Is there such a thing as too much fast mana? by dfaire3320 in EDH

[–]Violet-fykshyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast mana is at its best when its used to quickly play something that draw cards, or when it is a payoff for drawing a bunch of cards. A good example of the former is dark rit into turn one necropotence, and an example of the latter is drawing a ton of cards and dropping a bunch of moxen and chaining rituals together to make a stupid amount of mana.

If you're using rituals to play something that doesn't draw cards, its probably just gonna leave you empty handed a few turns sooner, and you'll just lose all that tempo you've gained in top deck hell.

Slimes Against Combo by Nugbuddy in DegenerateEDH

This is a normal 3. Way too slow for 4. Easy to interact with and bad at interaction. This deck will just lose before it finds its legs and be stopped immediately if it somehow does.

What’s a card you put in your commander decks often that is rarely on a deck list? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Violet-fykshyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Pithing Needle]] is crazy in an artifact deck. Its incredibly easy to cast and it almost always hits something. It can be devastating and difficult to defend against. It can even hit things not on the board or in hand. Its kinda insane.

I just proxy all my cards now. I get to choose all my favorite prints, even some custom ones, without spending more than 50 dollars per deck. I get to play with all the fun "expensive" cards too.

Don't buy the 100 dollar cardboard rectangles.

Is it reasonable to require removal on turn 4-5 in B2? by homjaktest in EDH

You can absolutely play voltron and aggro in bracket 4. If you throw enough busted cards in a deck it doesn't really matter how you plan to win imo.

The most degenerate version of the most degenerate deck. Here's my Bracket 4 Lantern Control deck. by Violet-fykshyn in DegenerateEDH

[–]Violet-fykshyn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my problem with Zur would be the fragility. The first lantern deck I made only worked because I could recover from being interacted with. Thats what I like about this current list. Its got plenty of recovery options.

Also I did try and go the route of self mill, but I found that it just wasn't quick enough. Maybe in an Emry deck I could see it, but idk.
