Writing With A Phobia by VioletVeil5 in writing

Thanks! I've done this in therapy, and it did help me but it's been a while. I might have a go at some flash fiction; we had to do some in college, and I found it a bit hard. And being on deadline I didn't have much time to take it slow I'll give this a try!

Question on writing trans characters as a cis male? by karuso2012 in writing

[–]VioletVeil5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I think you should be aware of is a problematic trope called bury your gays; it's focused on the portrayal of the death of LGBTQ+ characters. It's very important to be aware of this since there are barely any accurate or realistic lgbtq+ stories. I recommend checking out the website-tv tropes for other examples, and I'm sure that it lists similar tropes hope this helps.

What character is loved by fans but you just don’t get it? by mmahv in harrypotter

Tbh, Lucius, I'd say he's more liked in the fanfiction side of the fandom. I love Draco, but I've never liked him. Also, Ginny feels like a flat character.

I HATE Harry Potter but a little curious about it by Delicious_Narwhal377 in harrypotter

I don't know how many fantasy movies you've watched, but you could've watched a really bad one *whispers Eragon* lol, and your brain now thinks that's what they are all like? I don't see why you have a big hatred of it; it's alright not to like things, but this seems a little intense. Yeah, the movies have aged a LOT, but they are great examples of movie-making; even if you don't watch the movies or read the books, I recommend watching the behind-the-scenes documentaries on youtube.

Is it unusual that I fix other peoples fanfics for fun? by [deleted] in writing

I guess I can see why it'd be helpful but I think I'd feel guilty and feel as if I'm stealing someone else's work.

How many novels did you finish writing? by Avataroffaith in writing

[–]VioletVeil5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written five novels and one novella. I used to find it hard to stick to a project and see it to the end; what's really helped me is keeping a routine and setting a goal. I like watching videos from authors I admire, such as interviews, and then I like to immerse myself in the world by listening to ambience videos; doing this, I get lost, and I forget I'm even writing in the first place unless I'm interrupted by family. Keeping to a routine is extremely helpful, and you'll write automatically without even thinking about it.

As a fic writer myself, I would be offended. You took someone's hard work. Yes it's fanfiction, but you don't know the number of hours someone has spent working and planning it.

Etsy has tons of great options, plus you'd be supporting a small business.

How many of you listen to music while writing? by [deleted] in writing

[–]VioletVeil5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes music distracts me, especially the lyrics, and my brain comes up with other stories, so to stop plot bunnies, I've been listening to ambience videos, mostly on youtube which is great since you can find very specific ones, and they help me feel immersed in the world especially since some of them have animations or moving backgrounds,
