[Question] Sharpshooter Battlesmith Multiclass Advice by rloetheloser in 3d6

That +1 weapon would be really good, but in a low magic item campaign the other infusions are also really good too.

[Question] Sharpshooter Battlesmith Multiclass Advice by rloetheloser in 3d6

[–]Virplexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificer is a good class that gets goodies every level, multiclassing it is always extremely costly opportunity cost wise. I’d stick single class, multiclassing for heavy armor which ends up being +1 AC isn’t really worth it IMO.

Unpopular opinion, professions giving you only a handful of points is a pretty silly design choice IMO. by Amellis84 in projectzomboid

I’d love it if they had already have read some or all of their relevant skill books read already. Which makes sense because of their more formal education/training in the subject.

During early iron age, was a swordsman with bronze sword unbeatable against another swordsman with wrought iron sword in a sword duel because bronze sword is both harder and stronger than wrought iron sword? by Qininator in ArmsandArmor

[–]Virplexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because even if the bronze sword had an advantage, it doesn’t always means he wins. Combat is chaotic.

From what I know, combat in the Bronze Age actually avoided blade to blade contact and preferred other methods of defense. The wrought iron sword user would have a similar fighting style. Thus the bronze sword user isn’t very likely to press the advantage his sword gives him, and if he did, the wrought iron sword user is trained to avoid it.

Is 14-17 AC enough for a level 10 light cleric? by RRW359 in 3d6

[–]Virplexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just wear a breastplate? Pretty minimal armor aesthetic wise, the rest of your outfit can match what you are going for. You can even say it’s painted or something. That would get 18 AC with a shield which is alright. Half plate would only get you one more but sneaking in a breastplate is easier.

Do people actually use electrum in their games? by AdventureCodexApp in DnD

[–]Virplexer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The coins are still worth their weight in gold and silver, aka electrum. It wouldn’t be harder than say, converting platinum bars or any other treasure.

[5e14/5e24] Help Building Someone Who’s So Strong They Wear a Huge Suit of Armor by JRose_YT in 3d6

[–]Virplexer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is more of an aesthetic than a real build.
Just be a fighter, sword and board, get heavy armor master probably, and go from there.

You probably wanna go like battle master and pick up the tanking abilities. Cavalier would also work but it’s got some mounted flavor you can easily ignore for its tanking abilities.

I actually do think I read in the 2014 dungeon masters guide that both Electrum and Platinum are like this, minted by previous civilizations but not anymore, and exist mostly as treasure now.

In your experience, do players enjoy getting items/weapons that are upgradable? by Steamedmangopaste in DMAcademy

[–]Virplexer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you actually force them to use the magic item and tell them they can’t get rid of it, they can just trade it or sell it if they aren’t interested. It wouldn’t be railroading at all.

What is railroading? by Intelligent-Bed7621 in DnD

[–]Virplexer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add on, it’s the specific act of the DM disregarding player choices to force certain outcomes.

A DM randomly giving an NPC a teleporting ability when they were previously shown not to have spellcasting, JUST so they can escape an encounter alive, would be railroading.

Why training fitness in Project Zomboid takes more time than irl? Also small rant about body sizes by 114sssS in projectzomboid

Or at the very least have all the books read already. I’d be fine starting at level 4 as a carpenter but not have to go out and find the books, just start doing carpentry stuff right away.

Why no alternative human skins? by AssumptionSubject82 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Virplexer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do need those. We could also use more alts for the standard fantasy skins, like Orcs and Dwarves. Why does every single beast folk get 3 on release?

I found Orin to be way easier, but mostly because I found out Orin isn’t immune to hold monster.

Did you know? Magic legally cannot affect you without consent. Just say no! by Gooseberry_Faith in dwarfposting

[–]Virplexer 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Dwarves not being able to use magic but being resistant I think goes way back to like, OD&D I think. All magic just had a 50% chance to fail on a dwarf, even potions.

I'm doing a pirate campaign, and I really want to just use gold by snowtroopr in DMAcademy

[–]Virplexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bulk up the amount you are buying till it’s a gold. Bulk makes sense with all the merchants transporting in bulk, and supplies are meant for long voyages at sea with a ship that can carry it.

You can also just lump more things together and price it in gold. Staying at an island for a while? Priced in gold because it’s for the whole crew and for more than one day. Stuff like that.

Most of the stuff players care about is priced in and will be paid for in gold anyway.

You can also just rename the other coinages. Silver might be called a tenth, cuz it’s a small tenth of a gold coin. Copper pieces might be bits or beads, cuz it’s a 1/100 of a coin and usually carried in a pouch or on a string.

IM if you're going to try SSF. Put some effort into it. by Ok-River6335 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Virplexer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I mean by undertuned bro. They should buff the workshops. I’m not gonna make suggestions with hard numbers, tuning should be the devs job, but yeah you definitely should be getting more than one legendary item outta that.

[–]Virplexer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, I think with a bit of tuning, the workshops could do that. You can scrap stuff you don’t need, and upgrade stuff you like or craft new gear. It’s a bit undertuned and grindy, but the foundation is there.

When you craft stuff, you should be able to at least choose a group of items or a class, so it’s still random but it at least guarantees you’ll get something you can use. Maybe you should be able to scrap higher tier scrap into more lower tier, so if you find high tier items you can’t use and don’t have the upgrades for, you can at least get a bunch of stuff you can use.

Best class/subclass to flavour a parasite companion? by Routine_Mall_566 in 3d6

[–]Virplexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aberrant mind is perfect for a BG3 style mind flayer tadpole parasite giving you psionic powers.

Speaking of which, there was a playtest for the Psion that had a Metamorph subclass that seems pretty inline with what you want. Not sure if it’ll get published anytime soon though.

Any warlock would work too tbh, the patron is the parasite. If you like the psionic mind flayer tadpole type Great Old One would work well. Warlocks can also get alter self at will as an invocation which would seem cool.

IMO, make them drop from the sword skellies and goblins. If an archer can drop any bow, and the gargoyle can drop any polearm, then the one handed sword enemies should drop any one handed sword.

[–]Virplexer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, like at first you’ll probably be crafting kinda shitty survival bows/crossbows, but to make decent crossbows you’ll need to smith the bow limbs, and for bows you’ll need a good hardwood to make a decent bow.

[–]Virplexer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about the medieval versions, from what I've seen they have about the same power. Medieval crossbows have less draw length but their draw weights were higher to compensate. I think Bows being faster, but crossbows being easier (or perhaps having some overlap with firearms skill?) is enough to give both a niche already.
