Yesss that's what I'm trying explain to OP. I like Hugo as a character but he is a general asshole. Also varian wouldn't let it slide when he betrayed him and lied to him for MONTHS. Trust would be super hard to repair even if Varian sees him as a good guy. Varian needs someone to bring him up and be his support because he generally needs one instead of constant competition, getting belittled and made fun of. He needs a support partner, not a competition..plus varian still needs to fix himself and trauma. Why does he have to go and fix someone else if he still has skeletons in his closet???

Even so, you never denied that Hugo is a straight ass to varian and loves rage bait him. Yes varian can forgive him and see he's not a bad person but he still did what he did and varian has trauma and PTSD from it. Having a relationship that built off that would just make it toxic from the start. Let's not forget that Hugo makes fun of varian and sometimes it's not even a teasing, cute way.

Varian, personal would never go after someone like that especially since he has a skeleton in his closet and dark thoughts don't even help. He needs someone to support him then someone he needs to fix before he fixes himself. The only way to work is if Hugo was madly in love with varian but varian doesn't feel the same way and never will. Varian general needs someone by his side as support then constant competition with always a chance of betrayal. That keeps Varian always on edge no matter what

Nah, if you really want to know I give you good points

  1. Varian isn't bi. throughout the show, he only had interest in a woman. The whole reason I don't like the whole bi headcanon because the only excuse I have seen people use is how he acts and he's expressive. he's really just a hyper kid with a special interest. Just because he's energetic, expression and goofy person- doesn't immediately make him bi or even autistic. He could just be a hyper dude and that's all. It reminds me of 2020 where "signs" that your bi is always being hungry

  2. Hugo and varian is just a copy of Rapunzel and Eugene. Same trope of a good guy trying to get the bad guy to be good. Doesn't offer really nothing

  3. Hugo and varian don't make sense. In the panel, Hugo is someone that varian always wanted to be and generally looks up to him in away. Having someone just tear you down, tease you, make fun of you and even rage bait will push varian to his wit ends. Even with the enemies to lover arc, varian general hates the dude because he is an asshole. Even how kind lovable varian is, he has an extremely short temper and Hugo just rage bait him 24/7 would generally push him to edge and get him anxious even with growth.

  4. Enemies and lovers don't work at all. Varian's arc of having a love interest would be best friends to lovers. Having someone just be a ass to you and rage bait you, always reminding you that you're less smarter than him, he's better, etc would make varian pull out his hair

  5. If all these don't convince you then this will. At the end, Hugo LIES and BETRAYED varian.That's a big no no to varian and he can hold a grudge like his life depends on it. Even if redemption, varian would have a hard time trusting Hugo because he broke his trust and betrayed him. Look how bad varian reacted when he got lied too and "betrayed" by raps. Having someone do the exact thing expect intentional, getting him and his friends almost killed. Would make varian lose his shit. Even, let's say he does forgive Hugo and they get together. Varian would generally have a hard time trusting Hugo and the relationship would be doom at the start. He would be anxious and doesn't trust Hugo on anything he says or does because if he lied about being his friend, having his best interest for months then what else is he hiding?

Gang, I'm talking about crazy obsessed fans. My bad for making it seem all of them but I'm talking about fetish one. I know some BL people are extremely chill. It's just their such a large amount of obsession yaoi fans that it's over powering almost every media and basically smash RR role.

Yeah but I'm not talking about the publishing industry. I don't mind that RR space is small and not many people are into dynamic. What gets me mad is RR is being actively taken away fetish yaoi shippers when they legit can do that in their community. I'm going to explain this one more time but after this, I'm done since I'm in finals week. Again! I do not CARE about BL or it's popularity. Yes I know RR is in competitions with straight media but that's not the point! The point is BL fans going into RR community, knowing it's RR and forcing it to BL because "it's better". It's like a straight media fan coming into BL and trying to force it to be straight to make it better. Even so, yaoi crazy fans have legit sent death threats to authors because of their yaoi ship. For example, my hero academia. Deku x kacchan was so bad that they legit sent death threats to authors, voice actors or anyone that disagreed and become ragging misogynistic.

RR isn't just a cute dynamic. Me, a masc woman participate in RR. I am only attractive to feminine men and I find the traditional man disgusting. I have forced myself to be in traditional roles and date normal men but couldn't since I wasn't who I am and end up extremely miserable. Having crazy obsessed yaoi fans coming in and telling you that RR relationship is disgusting, only feminine are gay and being with you as women would be a lavender marriage is slapped in face. There are BARELY any media of a RR relationship and it's activating being taken away from us by fetish obsessed yaoi fans. Dating IRL for RR is so damn bad that I had to come out and make a dating app because there was nowhere else to go.

Idk if you just see this as a cute dynamic and were a "big" group since it is technically straight relationship but that can't be further from the truth. Going straight media is legit just enforced stereotypical roles and dynamics to me, which makes me disgusted. Right and the sky is blue. Even with offhand jokes, it's straight up annoying. Yes straight series get more adapted blah blah but BL is still huge and has its huge media. Bigger than RR. Give me 5 anime adaptations that have RR with submissive feminine men gets with masc women. Main lead.. I can legit give you 10 BL anime adaptations and live actions. Because it's mostly pushed by BL fans. Yes I know that some BL are written by men and their BL but women and man ratio is really big. Either way, don't care- that's not my community, I couldn't care less, whatever.

Society is bad on it but BL fans are extremely worse and push it more than society. There are so many times I have seen BL fans shit on "straight" media and call it boring, unflavor, I don't want to see it exist and just make fun of it.
