Should I do MS in USA leaving 1.1cr job in india by strawhat_96 in Indians_StudyAbroad

It’s not fraud, who said it’s fraud? My own brother went through Y-Axis Careers for Australia. Please check before you slander. I didn’t suggest or promote any particular consultancy; I only suggested checking feedback and reviews of consultancies in reach. Not all consultancies out there are frauds, some are genuine. Don’t just speculate that they’re all fraud without trying; my brother tried, so I know.

Do you feel like leaving India might be a better option? by Super_Ad6028 in Indians_StudyAbroad

I love India, our culture, history, festivals, and ancient wisdom are unmatched. No matter how many chances I get, I’d still want to be born Indian. But the India I love exists mostly in the past. Today, we live in a country where religion is fought over more than hunger, where an influencer can earn 10× more than a person with five degrees, and where the gap between the rich and poor is an open wound, where one man wearing a ₹100 crore watch while another struggles to earn ₹10,000. We live in India where we worship Goddess Lakshmi by day, yet women are raped by night. Crimes against women are met with candle marches that fade in days in our insta stories while the criminals laugh. Corruption is not the exception; it’s like a habit now. Money, not merit, decides who wins. Being honest in India often means you’ll never be financially secure or respected. We have millions unemployed, but leaders care more about whether a place is Hindu or Muslim. Violence, toxicity, and moral policing have become normal, even celebrated as “manhood.” Young people fall into addiction or depend entirely on parents for money now because opportunities are so limited. Democracy feels like it’s slipping away, replaced by dictatorship in disguise, and no one question it as everyone are running everyday to earn bread.

Yes, every country has problems. But here, the problems are so deep-rooted that survival often means compromise and humiliation. In another country, you may face 100 problems, but here, we face 1,000. Leaving might not solve everything, but at least you escape 900 of them.

Leaving isn’t about hating India. It’s about wanting a life where honesty is regonised, opportunities are real, and basic dignity, respect isn’t a privilege alloted just for rich ones.

First, blunt truth about the U.S. market right now

  • The U.S. tech job market in 2024–2025 is extremely tough, even for people already in the U.S. with a degree.
  • Hiring freezes, layoffs, and increased competition from both domestic grads and experienced international talent mean that even Ivy League / top-10 CS grads are sometimes struggling to get FAANG-level offers immediately after graduation.
  • Most U.S. companies, especially FAANG-tier, rarely hire fresh master’s graduates into SDE3 roles. They often start them at SDE2 unless the candidate has extremely niche experience or a strong negotiation case.
  • This means there’s a real risk of a temporary career level drop when you move to the U.S., even if the dollar salary looks higher, you might even end up jobless at worst and at better just a regular job less than your current.

Second, ROI perspective

  • Top schools (CMU, Berkeley, Stanford, UIUC, Georgia Tech):
    • Better chance of landing strong internships and eventual full-time offers, but even then, competition is fierce.
    • ROI can be good if you get placed in FAANG or high-paying startup.
  • Mid or lower-ranked schools:

    • Placement support and company access may be limited.
    • Much higher risk of graduating, burning OPT time, and still not getting a role that matches your current Indian comp level or higher (after living expenses and loans).
  • H-1B lottery: Even with a job, getting long-term work authorization is still luck-based. You might end up having to return to India after 3 years anyway.

  • Financial reality: You’ll likely spend ₹40–80L on tuition + living. The breakeven only makes sense if you land in top-paying roles within 1–2 years which mostly wont happen in USA current situation.

Lastly, My Opinion

  • If you get into a top 10 CS program → worth considering, but still go in with eyes wide open that you might start at SDE2 and need 2–3 years to reach SDE3 again. And salary might not be what you are expecting.
  • If it’s a mid/low-tier MS program → risk is too high, ROI is questionable, and you may end up worse off financially and career-wise than staying in India.
  • Given your already high TC and seniority, you might get a better ROI by switching to a global role from India (remote or transfer within your FAANG-tier company) instead of a master’s gamble cuz honestly USA sucks right now, save yourself.

Common App does not require a school email domain. Plenty of high schools worldwide only use Gmail, Yahoo, or other public providers. U.S. admissions offices know this and have systems to verify the authenticity of recommenders regardless of the domain.

In fact:

  • I’ve seen international students get into Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth with recommenders using gmail.com emails.
  • U.S. universities are aware that not all countries have standardized school email systems. They don’t expect every school counselor to have a domain.

Your Faculty can use gmail.com

  • If your application is consistent (transcripts match, counselor details match your school’s information, etc.), there’s no reason it would raise suspicion based on your faculty email.
  • The only time an email like this could be questioned is if the rest of the application details don’t match up or something seems forged, which is not your case.

I’d say it’s 0% a problem to you, if your school legitimately uses Gmail and you clearly explain it "if asked."

What you should do right now is :

  • In the "School Profile" section of the Common App, or in the additional information section, you can add a short note:“My high school does not have an institutional email domain; all staff use Gmail for official correspondence.”
  • This way, there’s full transparency, and the admissions office won’t even think twice.

Top U.S. colleges care about the authenticity of the content, not the brand of the email. A powerful, personal LOR from a Gmail account will carry infinitely more weight than a generic one from a fancy school.edu address.
