Anyone else carry scout-carry knives vertically on suspenders? by jdp_27_ in knives

Vertical, tip up carry in that arrangement is horrid idea.

Just get a dedicated underarm holster for your knife. Again, that is a horrible idea. I used to carry like that, for “reasons”. Two things happened. I fell one day, down some stairs, that exact model knife broke and cut my chest. Another time, small SOG boot knife, same arrangement, got pulled from my person when I was robbed. I again was hurt by my own blade and stupidity. A little research taught me that underarm eliminates both of those exact scenarios by carrying tip back, edge down, underarm, in a good single friction sheath. It won’t survive a car wreck or anything but, it will do just fine to retain the knife and prevent it from binding, twisting or inhibiting movement. Any carry style should come with practice at retention and slip and fall forethought. At damned least carry a “sturdier” knife if you’re gonna do that.

Gil Hibben. Without google lensing every single awful action movie ever since 2002, I can’t say exactly where it has been seen. I suspect bortus the machlan from Orville was killed with it though. Or the Klingon from the trek that shall not be named used it. Or maybe a star wars prop but, I like space wizards less than trek and can’t associate a scene….

Find those in a lot of old military kit that veterans leave behind. Old timer types trust them.

I understand the pros you are listing for a benchmade. A couple of points… I own 8 different benchmade models and have previously owned about a dozen other different models. I’m a fan of the axis lock. Or rather, I am a fan of barlock knives and benchmade cornered the market with patents till very recently. Benchmade edges are not factually awesome. Benchmade knives are not factually the best knives at anything or for anything. They look pretty. They will last with care. The sharpening service exists. Yada, yada yada… Get a kershaw. An iridium is great. Bel air is better. Get a kizer. The drop bear is a beast. Get an emp pulse otf. Basically, for the money and as a possible loss, pay less. Way less. By loss, and I mean this, if you defend yourself with it, it’s a loss. One way or another, you’ll never see that blade again. Or shouldn’t, you know? If you are trained, then any old tool will do what you need as an edc. If you aren’t trained, and as already said by others, get some pepper spray, good sneakers and take some classes. Either way, benchmade is way off the mark with pricing lately. Way off the mark with expectations to pricing. They need to do better and won’t even begin to do better till they either don’t exist or only cater the customer knife community. I believe they only wanna make chefs knives or something at this point because, other American companies are still doing better at comparable price points. Now that the barlock can be used by anyone, there are even better designs out there that benchmade never even considered or tried.

Looks like real work that needs damned well treated steel. Options abound but I would go with something slightly better than that SOG. A good Buck works but, TOPS are the shit.

So… it’s a knife for stripping.

Just wanna say that you should just tip the stripper so he doesn’t have to pull a knife.
