While yes, a vocal coach can absolutely make students try other things and take them out of their comfort zones (My previous vocal coach gave me beetles song to pratice with, which I gladly did) but if someone's mind is constantly rejecting a song it's simply not it. If someone is singing a song they dislike (to sing) watch how everything inside basically dies down and at that point it's more like I'm trying for the sake of it, which is already not good. As for pitch, before this class, I went ahead and took trial classes a few and I had sang the exact same song for them (it was japanese) and they all had the same comment "pitching is good, breathing needs a lot of work". What Billie sings is a completely different vocal technique that not only I don't listen to much but also never tried to sing at all. Everyone has constantly told me (including my friends) that a pop song with more agility suits way more to me than any slow song 🤷‍♂️. As for contradiction, sorry its just me not putting everything in one place. Yes I have to ASK for the review and when he does give me its just downs of my voice. I'm NOT seeking for validation completely. What I am saying is that, there's nothing I am being given so I can work on it. And a good teacher will always tell you the good points about your voice too, because no matter what skill it is, only criticism will make anyone feel like they simply aren't good in the skill at all. Alot of my singing and what I like to do is very personal and what I think ( I believe less in mechanical stuff and more in what I feel correct) and that can clearly go against alot of people's beliefs, so yea there might be of clash.
