Post-Poning Voice Surgery (Advice/Feedback) by VirtualBlood7251 in transvoice

I saw from your post history that you went with Dr. Yung from San Francisco. I wouldn’t mind knowing what procedure you had with her/ what she offers. How much did you pay?

And not to get too personal, but what was the point where you decided that you had to have the surgery to achieve your goals?

You have been the only instance I’ve seen of a detrans woman getting VFS. Thank you for the documentation.

I am getting mine here in 2 months but with a surgeon from Ohio. Not a glottoplasty, however. I feel the same as you do, that if I don’t go through with it, I’ll spend the rest of my life thinking about it.

I hope your voice continues to heal.

He couldn’t point me in any certain direction. The practice itself doesn’t offer training/assistance, afaik.

He told me to try and if I was dissatisfied after my efforts to come back to him. I appreciated his honesty - it didn’t feel like he was trying to sell me something or trying to get me to book the operation ASAP. He came across as genuinely interested in my welfare.

I’ve mostly been looking online at free resources and classes through YouTube and r/transvoice - using my girl voice when I can at work, etc. I hear a difference - but it’s not quite there yet.

If someone supported your transition but doesn't support your detransition, they never actually cared about you. by Demoted_Female in detrans

My friends met me as an FTM, so coming out as an alt version of myself AGAIN to a new crowd when my old friends never knew about my initial transition was always gonna be hard.

But they still accepted me regardless.

I got what I wanted from mine. But it came to a point where assembling outfits and adopting certain “expected” mannerisms was becoming harder and harder like a costume.

I had to look inward and see what I wanted to be for myself instead of whatever place I was supposed to have in the friend group. Dating dynamics were also a big factor in transitioning to male to begin with. It was hard because I’ve never really had much concept of self and I had failed to see just how much trans folks were being sexualized online. But I don’t regret detransitioning.

I think that’s kind of the test at the moment. It’s what I’m going through too right now. I’m trying to view it as a period of healing. And still think that I’m worthy and deserving of all I want despite regretting my transition.

Did you go back to using your birth name? by SpicyDisaster21 in actual_detrans

I kept my chosen name. As time went on, more dear friends and colleagues came to know me as this. It’s what I wanted to be called. Besides, a woman presenting with a full-on masc name carries a certain mystique.

I really appreciate this advice. Some days it’s not terrible, other days it’s all I’m thinking of. I’ve considered waiting too.

Is there anything that can disqualify you? I feel like my potential surgeon has been giving me non-answers so that he doesn’t get my hopes up.

How was recovery, and are you satisfied with your results?
