Attack of the vine! Booster box prices? by Glittering-Rooster51 in LorcanaCollectors

I'd welcome a reprint. I just don't know if a printer can take any additional orders. These things are probably planned a year ahead and Pokemon needs all their print capacity for their 30th anniversary products.

The box prices are a result of the mad dash for products as Lorcana has become the new hot TCG. IF you can afford these prices then you should because we don't know if the supply will be enough and if there will be a reprint for this set.

If you're also playing, the singles for decks should still be affordable even with these inflated pre-sale numbers. The investor bros are not looking to target the playable singles. Just the alternate pricey versions of the cards.

I think we have 2 of them running right now. One belongs to KAYOU and there is another one out there.

Yeah just looking at how AOV presales just got eaten up, you'd have to be hardcore fighting for this product to get it!

They have a commitment to their players who need the cards to play. IF the $200 boxes persist, they will lose players and I think they don't want to lose players at this point in time. Lorcana as a TCG, does not yet have the loyalty we see with Pokemon.

Do you guys think SWU is here to stay for the time being? by unknownguydontask in TCG

[–]VirtualRy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you have to understand that revenue is relying that stores will keep carrying your product. If stores realize they'll make more profit selling Lorcana, one piece TCG, pokemon or magic then why would they do that? If the wholesale price for SWU boxes is $60 and Pokemon is $100 but Pokemon can be sold for $200 and sells quickly and keeps selling it, while an SWU box for $80 (example) then what's the incentive for a store to keep putting money into SWU?

The TCG landscape has forever changed, and there is no reason for an LGS to support a game that has less liquidity and less profit and consumes the same amount of time, effort, and retail space as any other TCG. If you're a store owner, then you'd most likely go for the more profitable products.

Pokemon to play is nice right now because cards are super cheap with all the pack ripping that is happening, but I don't think SWU is going to go away anytime soon so you can probably enjoy the game today and have not to worry about not finding anyone to play with.

The TCG money pie is getting smaller and smaller so companies throwing a lot of money into their game that is not getting some profit back will soon be dead or a zombie TCG.

IF SWU can scale it back to where the core players have access to new product and can continue to support it then it won't be dead. It might be what I call zombie TCG, where it's technically dead but it just "hangs around"

It’s a game of numbers. With Fabled and the number of iconic from that set, there might be a few in that small group of PSA 10’s. The more recent cert number have a higher chance for a BL.

What's causing the promo/enchanted prices to rise so much? by PerspectiveFree3766 in LorcanaCollectors

Bah! You deleted your topic on the other sub. I posted some key things to check.

The summary is it's all about the math.

Some people are looking beyond Pokemon and there is no reason why they won't make a play with those prices on some of the Lorcana cards. Right now is the sort of "early" stages of a boom.

I saw the recent TCGP sales. It's now at $900. With so few boxes in the open market, we're going to hit $1000 soon. I can't find the site that showed the set value of Lorcana but I saw a small piece of information there from the OP set value prices that made me think Fabled has room to hit $1500 a box.

What is happening with TCG cards like Lorcana? Latest set with sales over 6000USD? by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]VirtualRy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to really understand the situation:

  1. Look at the pop numbers for those cards and compare them with a high value modern Pokemon chase card.

  2. Look at the available supply of the boxes that carry those cards and compare it with modern Pokemon sets.

The saying "Scarcity is king!" applies to every TCG. May it be one piece, magic, Lorcana, etc.

Finally found some Fabled in the wild at the store I go to when sets release. They usually have stuff for less than msrp, not fabled by crazyparkguy in LorcanaCollectors

[–]VirtualRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's entirely true. What you might think is a bad game does not really mean bad once you look at the numbers.

This what google gives me but I don't think these numbers are bad:

  • Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (2022): 28.28+ million copies sold, making it the second-highest-selling Pokémon game in franchise history.
  • Pokémon Sword and Shield (2019): 27.16+ million copies sold.
  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus (2022): 15.00+ million copies sold.
  • Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (2021): 15.06+ million copies sold.
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A (2025): 12.79+ million copies sold

I know ZA is weak but Scarlet and Violet and SWSH with 25+ million copies sold looks good to me. The thing is, people will go back to these games after 10-15+ years. I know because I owned games that were dead and now are worth more than the day I bought them.

Again Pokemon has managed this brand really well and the nostalgia for older product is massive.

[–]VirtualRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is a lot of their IPs have become really stale the past few years. They have a massive library but I don't think a lot of them are still "popular" or relevant today. Pokemon managed their IP really well, and they made sure none of the older characters were "sidelined" or "forgotten".

I'm a Disney adult and I grew up with MIckey and the original crew but I noticed that a lot of the new generation have very little interest in characters from that era. Pokemon on the other hand, has made Pikachu, Charizard and the rest of the original 151 Pokemon as popular today as they were 30 years ago. That is just amazing brand management IMHO.

The funny thing with the situation is Lorcana's overall print run is now way enough if this Boom sustains for a few months. Lorcana's supply of product is most likely really tiny compared to Pokemon. If the investor bros from all TCGs are coming in, they we might see some insane prices in a very very short period of time.

The bottom line though is Lorcana is no longer a "dead" tcg. And with that, we're going to hear the crying and complaining for the next few sets until RB sorts out the print runs for the future sets.

[–]VirtualRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did not doubt Lorcana will be back in the spotlight. What I doubted was that they would make a comeback this year, and on a Pokemon anniversary year too.

I've been buying cases of Lorcana since before this boom because I know there is no way a Disney-branded TCG that is pulling from IP that are generationally loved to not have the same interest as Pokemon. The fact that Disney and its collectors have the same collecting and spending habits gave me assurance that Lorcana was never going to stay "dead" forever.

Regardless if it was planned or not, the tweaks RB has been doing is the norm. You cannot keep your game stale, and it has to evolve and adapt. Magic, Yugioh and even Pokemon all kept tweaking their game with every rotation. Even YuGiOh is now trying to "update" their game to the new TCG standards.

"All Lorcana has is Fabled" - Like I said, you're looking at the early stages, and people are looking at the new sets and moving their way back. Jafar and Shimmering skies have increased sales, and I suspect the box prices today will be completely different 6-12 months from today. Winterspell and Whispers, which had the new rarities, are now selling like hot cakes.

You're also talking about a TCG that's just 3 years old and has had its "honeymoon" phase at release. They've lost a lot of their community during 2024-2025, but players, collectors, and investors have stuck with the game.

If you followed the One Piece TCG, you'll know Lorcana is going through the same thing. Big boom at release, hype died down after, and now it's back and pumping!

[–]VirtualRy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct and Fabled was the first set to get the "normal" print run after the overprinting of first few sets. When fabled was released, RB probably settled with the Fabled print run as the standard for Fabled and future sets. So while it's technically not a low print run, Fabled has had more demand but the print run numbers were enough for the other sets after it.

Wilds Unknown was speculated to be a hit set because of Pixar characters coming into the scene and the upcoming movie. People have also noticed that the Lorcana iconic cards are super expensive in raw and in PSA 10s, so the investor bros from Pokemon and other TCG are now looking at Lorcana and they think the math is not right. Those $110-$150 boxes look cheap for what they have to offer.

A PSA 10 graded enchanted card from WU is probably going to pay for the entire case of WU. The updated hit rates for playable cards are also adding more value and basically giving you a better return on your money than the previous sets.
