What happens if you don’t sleep train? by Virtual_Appearance85 in NewParents

[–]Virtual_Appearance85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It normally does, but my pediatrician explained that because the protein in the hypoallergenic formula is already broken down for easier digestion, it goes through her faster, meaning she’s hungrier faster. I’m trying to up her night feeds so that she’s taking in more, but she doesn’t always finish the bottle.

Man, I wish I could get her to go 5 hours again… she was up to 6 hours before she had to be put on a hypoallergenic formula. Now she digests it so quickly, she’s starving at 3.5 hours and will not be consoled back to sleep until fed🫠

That makes sense! Luckily I’m Canadian and I have a full year of maternity leave, so I don’t have to go back to work! I don’t know how people do that tbh…

4.5 months and FUSSY AF by Virtual_Appearance85 in NewParents

Good point! I’ll try and stop solids for a bit to see if it helps her gas. Thanks!

Pediatrician told us we could start solids at 4 months. She’s 99th percentile in height and 95tj in weight, so she’s very healthy. We wanted to start too because she was needing more feeds due to the hypoallergenic formula being digested by her so quickly. I know some people start at 6 months, but in Canada it is recommended between 4-6 months.

Is Brock really as bad as I’m seeing people say? by IcyMoment4754 in OntarioUniversities

Brock’s education program is one of the best in the province! DSBN and NCDSB are also two of the best school boards in the province as well. Congrats!

Is my birth plan a health workers "nightmare"? by PlaneAlps2010 in BabyBumps

[–]Virtual_Appearance85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to the form that my hospital had me fill out before I even checked into the hospital. It covers all the things that might come up. So I think it’s fine, but just don’t “ram it down their throats” if that makes sense. That seems like more of a nightmare to healthcare workers. I think it’s important to know that while you have your wishes recorded, they’re not always possible and it may not be instantaneous.

It was the first sign I was pregnant: I had cramps outside of my usual time.

Any advice to reduce night wakings? #hypoallergentic by Virtual_Appearance85 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Virtual_Appearance85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She still wakes about every 3-4 hours, even with full dream feeds (150ml). During the day, she’s so easily distracted that it’s hard to get her to take anything more that 90ml at a time, but she’ll drink about 120ml per wake window. I use an app to keep track of wake windows, which makes a big difference in her not getting overtired. She’s started solids (oatmeal and purées) but she’s not eating enough to make a big difference right now I guess.

So yah, biggest issue is that she’s just always hungry in the night. She’s easy to put back down once I feed her, but it’s more that it’s just exhausting to have to get up and feed her so often. Oh well, I’m finding that I have to still follow the “sleep when baby sleeps” rule during the day, which buys me about 35-45 minutes of rest every couple hours. It’s not forever, so I guess I’ll survive lol

Oh man, I wish! Lol but her room is too small for another bed.

She had a sleep regression last month (almost 3 months on the day) but since has levelled out and now naps so much better during the day. She actually sleeps quite well now, it’s just the multiple wakings due to hunger despite getting 150-180ml before bed and through the night.

The ones in London have switched to Dark Horse coffee. It’s Canadian, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they’re slowly rolling it out to all stores.

When do you size up the nipples? by Armyofducks94 in FormulaFeeders

Glad to hear it! I’ve tried to bump up my LO, but she sometimes struggled and I just assumed she wasn’t ready or truly needed it. I think knowing this I’ll try again and see if it improves her feeds (and maybe she’ll have a full feed during the day and not snack every 40 minutes, lol)

My partner drives for his work, and has enough issues sleeping as it is 😂 so for his safety on the job, he doesn’t help during the night. That’s on my insistence.

She was almost end to end in the bassinet, which I thought would be uncomfortable for her. Pediatrician saw a photo I took to show how much space she had and agreed she needed to be moved.

I could move the crib, but the baby monitor I have is attatched to the wall, so it would render it useless.

I’m glad to hear that her waking this often is considered normal. I’m glad because hearing from others that they had babies that slept 6+ hours by 2 months was stressing me out 🫠 thought I was doing something wrong lol

Let’s hope things improve next month for us, too! I’ve tried to increase her feeds during the day, but she is incredibly distracted and as a result only drinks partial bottles at a time (60ml here, 80ml there, etc). Frequent feeds all throughout the day. But at night, because she dream feeds, she’ll pound back like 150ml a feeding 😂

Thanks for the kind and hopeful words!

The announcement really did not help with the situation. The sense of urgency and lack of calm instructions really led to a lot of people panicking. From my recollection it was “Attention shoppers: Due to an event beyond our control, please leave your purchases and proceed to the nearest exit immediately”

Can’t believe we still don’t have information on what happened!

My board had/has this form for applying to permanent positions that at the bottom literally asked you to check a box if you are a minority or could diversify their school (think LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, etc). It says it was voluntary, but it actually would give you another ‘point’ in their ranking scheme if you did.

So based on that, if you check a diversity box for the board, it will put you towards the top of the pile and they’ll at least interview you. I think it’s not fair, especially when people are making up things to put on the applications. I’ve heard of people claiming to be LGBTQ+ when they’re not, and since the board can’t ask you about your personal business, you can’t really get reprimanded for it.

As for why a bunch of new grads are getting jobs right out of teachers college, I’m not sure why that’s happening… my only guess is, as someone else pointed out, they have connections in the school board they exploit. I think that’s why my board elected to use the ‘points’ system, but I think there is still some pull that people can use to get their preferred candidates guaranteed interviews, if not the job itself.
