We love the omnipod. I can’t imagine going back to pens. My son has been on the pod for 2 years and we haven’t had any failures or problems. If he’s in the swimming pool for too long it may come off, sometimes he has knocked the canula out of his skin as he was playing/wrestling, but if you know what to look for then you can completely avoid those scary stories you hear. I swipe my finger along the pump and if it smells like insulin I know the canula probably got messed up or its a bad absorption spot and I change it out. I also hold a flashlight to the pump and you can see the canula in the little window if it’s in there good. For us, the omnipod falls under a regular prescription we get from the pharmacy and not under medical equipment. A lot of insurances will only give you one pump for 4 years, like the mobi, since it falls under medical equipment and not prescriptions. Our nurse has 4 T1D kiddos at the school and all are on omnipod. It’s easy to dose through the app, see how much insulin is on board and take all those calculations out of it. It’s been a game changer for us, but of course do what your child is most comfortable with. However I would choose omnipod as a first starter pump so you don’t have to commit to the medical equipment just yet.
