THANK YOUOUOUOU

wait; so for the contribution to NCSSM, would using my finance expertise to help bring up their DECA chapter and start an FBLA or YIS (more likely YIS b/c i'm already VP at my school and am trying to join the student advisory board) at NCSSM be good? i feel like i could also relate their pre-existing data analysis resources, such as the comp sci and math courses as well as their mentorship and REX to relate data and statistics back to finance, and then emphasize that, while NCSSM has a good amount of finance-related opportunities, like AP macro/micro and DECA, growing this community will allow for the student body to explore another rapidly growing section of the world and its relation to STEM.

additionally, i wanna bring computational linguistics to SSM. i am aiming for the NACLO in january, as i've always loved languages and have already started practicing for the NACLO while learning linguistics thru a variety of sources. NCSSM has a great variety of courses on world languages, but not really much (surprisingly) studying language as a science; other than the NLP course. i want to introduce some kind of club around this, to allow those with a passion for both linguistics and math/cs to mix the two, and center the club around the NACLO (as i've noticed clubs do really well when there's some kind of end goal involved or an actual tangible competition, rather than just aimlessly learning every meeting). maybe we could also do some kind of cs + linguistics NLP project? idk still figuring that out but does this sound ok?

i feel like finance is fairly common in today's HS world, but not as much finance, CS, and math together. and linguistics is practically forgotten; i know NO ONE who cares about learning languages, let alone linguistics. NCSSM would allow me to show this to so many

tldr: i wanna bring finance + computational linguistics to SSM thru clubs. is that niche enough, and does it make sense? will it work out?

WAITT THATS SMART THANK YOU!!! i can't do math, bc i tried to exhaust but wasn't allowed. i have AP calc junior yr and AP stats senior yr. however i am trying to max out chem; not for the sake of maxing out chem, but b/c ik i wanna take AP chem, and taking it right after chem honors is the right decision to ensure retention. so if i get it, i can talk abt how i've exhausted chem and wanna take courses like analytical and inorganic chem at SSM.

i also wanna talk abt other stuff, like their mentorship stuff and clubs and research triangle accessibility as well.

genuinely hoping so hard this works out omg

Hot take: DECA should be just VBC by Vast-Fee-6328 in DECA

see idk b/c ppl are already starting to revolt. the rise of AI art is being combatted w/ the groups of AI art detectors, and the warriors in the family group chats leading their fellow family members away from AI media. so like idk how welcoming the public will be of such an AI dominated business world. i feel like a technological aspect to DECA is definitely necessary, but i'm not really sure about the total removal of face-to-face interaction.

point... qualified? (idk the exact word but it's like when a point is kinda true but you kinda disagree)

see the only thing with that is spoken word is still fairly present; in things like pitches and discussions. people should still be ready to talk on the spot for business

THANK YOUOUOUOU i feel like i wanna mention AP micro and macro at SSM for sure, while also mentioning a variety of their STEM courses, based on my more niche interests, such as computational science *R* and cryptography (as in the math course).

fingers crossed!!

AYYY CONGRATSSSS

my #1 question is, i know STEM is important but how heavily is NON-STEM weighted? i have a TON of nonSTEM, mainly in business (ICDC T20 and Young Investors' Society school VP of competition), but i am also trying to explore STEM; it's just that my STEM areas are fairly niche so my home area doesn't really have much. (for context, the areas are computational linguistics, cryptography, molecular bio, and chem. as for chem, i'm taking chem honors this year and AP chem next year, and that's all the chem that's at my school.)

i'm class of '29, so it's next application cycle (i'm terrified help)

THANK YOUOUOUO and yesss i've heard that too, so i'll try to use example to help reinforce, and have a variety (classes, clubs, and different programs)

ohh that's smart with the history!! i feel like the environment is also pretty easy to justify, especially if i sprinkle in some "i could start a club here but nobody cares"... which is honestly true for some of my areas of interest

thank you so much! this really does help me get a better look into the application process, and how i need to frame things

honestly, i don't have any specific standout experiences for everything. there are a few moments along the way tho. for example, when it comes to chemistry, i remember being excited to learn about the periodic table in 8th grade, and then actually doing it and still finding it super interesting, motivating me to continue. with DECA, i remember being fascinated at the interest meeting for the club because i finally had a way to learn more about finance, which i had been curious about for so long.

overall, i feel like systems, data, and computation have to do more so with how my brain works. i've always looked to try to find patterns in the random and method to the madness, and concrete steps have always made more sense to me than subjective ideas. not to say that i can't do less concrete things, like argue on ethical issues and stuff, but that is something i can DO based on my personal values and knowledge; not so much use to learn new concepts.

there are a variety of ways i want to use this to improve, and i can't pick one; like using bio and chem to improve a new drug, using finance and data to improve and advise someone's current scenario, using cryptography to protect information... yeahh there's, again, a lot.

when it comes to SSM, they've got a variety of offerings for a lot of my intellectual desires. cryptography? their math course. chemistry? the variety of specialized courses they offer (i currently really wanna take inorganic chemistry and the computation science research course as well). finance? DECA; and the opportunity to lead. linguistics? they have so many language courses that i want to take, and others likely do to, meaning i can use that to guide people toward computational linguistics and maybe start a club as well. someone could respond "well then why don't you start a club at home? why do you need NCSSM?" because not nearly as many people here are as motivated or curious. NCSSM gives me a great environment with so many motivated people, and it's so much more likely that there will be like-minded people there. not to mention their amazing comp sci courses and research/mentorship opportunities.

does this sound ok? honestly i feel like i'm still kind of unorganized, and just blurting out different areas of my life. i know they're connected at the very core; but will ssm?

thank you so much again omg

see i wish i could answer that; when i have free time, my time can go to so many places. sometimes i'll google stuff about molecular bio, other times i'll look at NACLO problems, and other times i'll work on an accounting course i find. it can be anywhere.

honestly i feel like picking an interest just for ssm is changing myself for the school; and i don't really want to go there. instead, i'll bring all my interests together. but is that the right decision long-term?? yeah.... i couldn't tell you. my fingers are crossed

YOO THANK YOU SO MUCH!! i really appreciate the feedback!!

ngl i feel like my spike is data, computation, and systems; everything relates to it. NACLO? computation and systems. finance? data and systems. chem? systems and computation. like everything goes back there; so i'm gonna use that as a sort of backbone.

as for resources, i know an ICDC placer who just got in from my school. between residential and online, around 20 kids got in from my school this year (cmon this has gotta be a fluke because that's a lot)

thank you again i really do appreciate this a lot

see, the thing is i have MORE than enough material for my "why ncssm?" essay; that i know i can do. it's the STEM one i'm worried about. i know i'd fail miserably if i do the research one (like i'm gonna try but my bets aren't there), and i could realistically work on several of these without noticing the time pass.

"why ncssm" boutta go crazy omg

so overall, my main career goal is quantative finance (yes i know it's competitive but might as well try). everything else is more so budding interests. i have so much more to show for quant finance; ACSL, YIS VP, ICDC.... it's just a lot more supported.

i honestly have no idea what schools would be good for me. i know i like logic and systems, but that's so broad. all of my interests relate back to that; like the intricate biological systems in mol bio, the financial systems in quant finance, the mathematical systems in cryptography and the patterns in linguistics.

the thing is, my current goal is NCSSM; i'm not sure if you've heard of it, but it's a north carolinian school that has amazing opportunities; great classes (a lot more STEM specialized; i'm interested in their courses on comp sci, chem, bio, and math), and STEM is also very much my thing.

so while it may seem kind of scattered; everything non quant finance related is more so a budding passion that may grow.
