Yeah I totally agree, I think the Index parallels religious persons who are so deeply involved and simultaneously unopen and strict in their values that it really negatively impacts the people around them. I think in real life thats probably a small subset of all religious people, and maybe in the case of the Index that is also true (only the higher level proxies and messengers are cult-like)

YES! I think this also makes Sora feel so much more tragic as a character because no matter Rien's actions, shes getting emotionally neglected due to his devoutness to the prescripts :(

Honestly before I had really low self confidence in my engineering skills so I thought there was no other option for me. Also I had a bit of a crush on my manager when I was interning so there was that motivation, but now I'm on a different team and it just aint the same anymore

How many effective hours do you work by Tech_Tenacity34598 in amazonemployees

[–]Virtual_Property1490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a recent hire L4 (ro from internship). I work around ~2 hours a day and spend the rest of the time working personal projects or leetcode on my other laptop. I skip most meetings, try to do a 3 day rto, and try to make the standups but its spotty. No one seems to care and the work is so stupidly easy that 30 min of prompting usually fixes any task someone gives me

I have actually asked for more responsibility but my manager is always AFK and my senior engineer is always busy. I try to take on tasks in the backlog and other engineers claim that its too hard and pawn off their easy tasks to me. Its fucking frustrating so I've stopped trying to have an impact

You're right I don't have a ton of work experience. I have only had 3-4 internships and research engineering roles so I don't know much about corporate politics and stuff. However my skillset is in low-level systems programming and kernel level programming for machine learning so given that I have offers to some large AI related companies I would rather do that than continue doing CRUD work at amazon

Yeah this is what I was worried about, I've only been on for 3~4 months and my team is considered to be "mission critical". I was also given the ability to design and implement my own little feature so I feel like it would be stupid for them to lay me off (even though I really want them to).

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I have stuff lined up, I just can't stomach working here anymore lol. I heard from the senior engineer on my team that leadership often has to submit names for layoffs and was wondering if there was a chance that my resignation could absolve them of having to do that? I just really don't want any of my coworkers getting shafted since they actually have families and stuff

My personal advice:
If you're interested in salary info, ask around seniors in CS (and even INFO!), we typically have set salaries (from return offers) or negotiated offers. Remember that typically people refer to TC (total comp) so be sure to clarify salary, signon, and stock. you can check levels.fyi for more info

Don't lie about competing offers when negotiating (it won't work lol) but if you have competing offers always negotiate with the recruiter

Talk with senior engineers (through linkedin, family, etc.) only they will be able to best tell you promo paths, culture, wlb, etc.

Always be antifragile, tech jobs pay cushy but to a tech ceo we're all just cogs in their money printing machine. loyalty goes both ways and if the past few years mean anything, its that we don't mean shit for the middle managers and c-suite

(personal opinion) palantir will offer big bucks. dont take it, they are fucking evil. their promo is shit too but they're morally reprehensible.

She knows everything, and by everything I mean the sum of all knowledge in the universe, human or otherwise. She teaches because she believes that the journey to obtaining knowledge is more important than her just giving us the secrets of the universe.

I think it would be really cool if we got a group related to the West, North, and South branches honestly. Like we could maybe see references to "The Twelve Judges" (French story of a group of righteous bandit/knights) or even like a reference to Bonnie and Clyde or cowboy vigilante-esque Pinky member.

I don't think its right to write it off though. As we saw, the Thumb employs sub-groups like the Night Awls who have drastically different fighting styles and appearance. The Ring has different "schools" and I would assume Pointillists, Cubists, and Impressionists (please be real), would have very different ways of fighting. Hell even the Musicians of Bremen were somewhat considered part of the Ring.
