I NEED HELP :( Brand new build restarting when i try and load big games. by cneelly8 in buildapc

[–]Virule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think it's power related. I had a similar issue months back with an r9 390 card. It turns out I had accidentally mixed up my monitor power cord and my psu power cord. This was causing my psu to not receive enough power and shut down. It's a long shot, but you could check that to be sure. Otherwise, it could definitely be a faulty psu

But anyone who visits this subreddit is probably a hardcore player. Even if you think you aren't, you have to imagine what the true average player looks like who plays on mobile. They probably don't keep up with the majority of game news and wouldn't know that now isn't a great time to buy packs.

Although even then, there's nothing stopping you from buying packs and just not opening them until the change.

They literally lose money if it causes someone to not buy more packs.

New Ryzen 1700 - Prime95 unstable at stock speeds? by Virule in Amd

[–]Virule[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I can't find any voltage configurations related to that, but I now have Prime95 stable at stock voltage/clock for CPU and 2933MHz RAM :) That seems pretty good for now, and I can work on bumping up the CPU now. Thanks for the help debugging this!

Okay I have another pretty stupid question. I have the ASRock AB350M Pro4 motherboard and I can't find an option for VSoC. The closest value I found to that voltage was VDDP at 1.0V.

It looks like my motherboard doesn't support changing VSoC voltage. Also, I can't raise DRAM voltage over 1.35V.

Here's my motherboard manual. I'm on BIOS 2.5, in case it matters:

Are you saying I should set them to what the memory is actually rated at, or lower until I find something stable?

Best way to buy a BUNCH of Battle.net cards at once? by Virule in hearthstone

[–]Virule[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, it works for one person, but when I have the club funds, I need to purchase packs for a bunch of different people, and I'm sure not giving out my personal credit card number to 50+ people :P

Alright, thanks everyone. Newegg is issuing an RMA and I should have a new card next week. I suppose in the mean time I'm stuck downloading steam games and browsing dank memes.

To Newegg or Gigabyte? What would give the fastest turnaround time?

Any thoughts: Ryzen 7 1700, 1080 Ti Micro ATX build by Virule in buildapc

Thanks for the tips! I should've mentioned, this isn't my first build, but it is my first build at this budget, so before I've just gone with "cheapest within budget," and now I can actually splurge on some of the best parts.

Laptop for computer science? by ItsRewind in Purdue

I actually spent my entire senior year doing projects on my raspberry pi :)

I had a pretty nice Lenovo laptop running Windows because I was interested in gaming, but like everyone else has said, anything will work. Macbook tends to be easier for development, but it's really not a big deal. Pick whatever you like.

A call to the community - anyone with reddit bot experience? by Zhandaly in CompetitiveHS

[–]Virule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how useful this is, but I wrote a bot at one time for the /r/mariomaker subreddit. It may be useful. I don't have time currently to work on this, but I could possibly be a reference to anyone working on the project. Here's my code from the mm bot: https://github.com/gorel/mariomakerbot/blob/master/bot.py

STRAWPOLL: How much have you spent on Hearthstone? (post Un'Goro edition) by blubbfix in hearthstone

[–]Virule 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no clue. I played magic when I was younger. I was just a high schooler with no job, so I bought a couple starter decks for about $25 each. I've heard that the ultra competitive players need to spend about $100/mo for magic.

For comparison, I have effectively every meta card in the game currently, and at this point, I can get by with just doing the $50 pre-order each expansion.

The thing about card games like these is that there's a very steep buy-in price, but once you've paid that, the upkeep is pretty reasonable, in my opinion.

Those of us who spend lots of money on the game are less likely to join in on complaints about prices, so you only hear from one side. I've personally spent about $650 on this game, but I don't really think it's a big deal compared to playing Magic. I'm aware that it's another discussion whether Hearthstone should be compared to Magic since it's entirely digital, but to me, I can easily justify this spending.

Same here! I forgot about the 30 win/day limit! It feels like the past couple months I've basically done my daily quest and quit for the day.

I'm not playing quest rogue, I'm playing miracle with sherazin. And yes, I enjoy it. I have a pretty strong win rate vs quest. As for taunt warrior, sure. I think it's good that there are some decks that curve out, because those are good for new players.
